Around the A-10: 2024–25 Edition

Not sure I ynd

well when does it become ok to complain? It’s not like the schedule is going to magically look better in September.

I don’t think this is a fan issue, if it was a moderate schedule and folks had higher expectations you might have a point, but this schedule is objectively really poor.
Lord knows I’m not defending our OOC schedule. Playing Randy Mac or Hampton Sydney would be more challenging.

Hmmm. Wouldn't necessarily call it impressive. Just a choice. And dedication. Opposite of our direction.
I for one am impressed that they landed a top 75 kid competing with Texas and Indiana.
and it wasn't a "local kid who wants to play at home" situation.

but you're right. VCU is making a decision to compete at that level. it'll be interesting to see how many other non-P5's do.

Taking a quick look at the current freshman's ESPN 100 rankings, looks like VCU (again with Nyk Lewis no. 57), SDSU, and UAB were the only teams to nab a top 100 guy.

They could have thrown a lot of money at these guys (talking about VCU) but to your point sman - kids are still going to go top choice - so still very impressive that Martelli Junior is already running laps around us.

Will VCU eventually run out of money? Can Martelli coach as well as he recruits?

Rhoades was a good recruiter also, but can't coach worth a sh!t.

Time will tell on the coaching piece - but you got to have players first, and good players in order to win games. Rankings are not everything, but I have said before - I like my chances with a team of top 100 kids, than a team without top 100 kids. Will some of the top 100 kids flame out - of course. Will some of the non-100 kids overachieve or be better than there ranking - of course. But I just think the odds are in your favor the more you can recruit and get top ranked players, more times than not - it will work out.

As the old saying goes: “It’s not the X’s and O’s. It’s the Jimmys and Joes.

I would say u need both. Hard for the best coaches in the world to win without talent, but talented players need a good coach, not only for X's and O's, but for team chemistry. The best coaches can get talented guys to play unselfish, team first basketball.
