It looks like our friends down the street play on Friday against Rhode Island in Richmond. That will give us more separation, if URI wins.

This is going to be great environment, and I am predicting RAMS win (get it , wink wink?).
My friend Big Josh will be screaming "you're trash" "you're trash" in Hurley's face and he will be very animated and may attack. I think the Spiders should be rooting for the gold and yellow rams - should be shooting for first place. When Lambs beat the Rams and Spiders beat the light blue rams, will only be one game separation from 1st.
Friday should be an interesting game. I know many on here don't want to root for the black rams (BTW I refuse to call them the gold rams, so this is the only choice left, the others are the red rams or blue rams), but I'm not opposed to it WHEN it helps my Spiders. The black rams need quality wins for any chance to get an at-large, would a win over the blue rams qualify? I believe so. Would it destroy the blue rams chance at an at-large, I don't think so. Would it enhance the chance of getting multiple teams in the dance, yes. Does that help our budget and league image, yes, even if it is the black rams.
Fan1, I can't not believe my eyes. You are rooting for VCU to snag an at large for "league image" purposes. Ugh. I don't see them going to an 8th straight dance as "helping" our program. If that were helpful to our program, you would think that their previous 7 trips would have materialized something tangible for us. It hasn't.
Fair logical strategy for handling the emotional aspect of rooting interest. I love the color coding methodology. Hope it catches on.
97, I certainly understand your thought, but I didn't say how "hard" I was rooting. The league needs to remain a multi bid league. Even if we are not one. It's our job to improve to the point where we are one. And yes, we have been paid for every trip the black rams have taken as a member of the A-10. It's how the league divides the money.

VCU could win the rest of its A10 games and still wouldn't make the NCAAs as an at-large, so there's no point rooting for them in this game (or ever). We need Rhody to win so that we have another game in hand over VCU. Then when we beat them again next week, we'll basically be 3 games up on them.

Well, we have 13 other league members we can root for to get that second bid then. There fan base and local media is finally dealing with a little reality here and that has been a nice sobering experience for all involved.
As Eight said, VCU is not getting an at large anyway. And if they were somehow to run the table and put themselves in some contention for one, that would mean them beating us in our building on Feb. 7th. Ergo, no need to root for them on Friday.
I have never heard of any reason not to root against Broad Street. My two favorite teams are Richmond and whatever team is playing Broad Street.

I thought there was no way VCU got an at large in 2011, too. 3 CAA Teams - are you kidding me? Especially after the beatdown we put on them where Mooney took mercy on Shaka and emptied his bench. I still feel like they didn't belong, and they went to the Final Four. 23-11 in the CAA, and got a higher seed than UR, 27-7 in the A10.

Ya I never really understood the committees logic on putting vcu in that year. They didn't really beat anyone good and had some bad losses from what I remember. They also got a higher seed as an at large out of the CAA than we did as the A10 champions, I took that as if we hadn't won the A10 we probably would've gotten snubbed. Could you imagine what a crime that would've been??? Especially since we beat vcu that year, by a lot. However the committee knew something because vcu went on to the final four.

The Bonnies are in a better position to overtake Richmond in the standings. My preference would be a Mason win in 4 OTs.
Best scenario for the conference this year is probably this:
-URI finish the season strong, lose in semifinals of conference tournament, still make NCAA tourney easily
-Bonnies go 7-2 or better down the stretch, make a run in the conference tournament and lose in the finals, this would give them an rpi in the 30's or low 40's and a pretty good shot of getting in
-the Bonnies lose to a third team in the conference tournament finals (preferably us)

Agree with your "best-case" scenario, and of course am hoping that our team "peaks" at just the right time, with Nate and JJ becoming "rock-solid" guys off our bench, and everyone else playing together as we know they can (after seeing the last 5 games). Getting 3 teams in would also help to salvage some of the 'lost luster" the A-10 has suffered over the past 2-3 years.

vcu very well could get in based on reputation. The media loves them because they are always a great story to them and they also bring a lot of fans to tournament games so ticket sales go up with them in. Hopefully if we beat them twice we give the committee a reason to leave them out.

I agree with you but the "full stop" thing is unbelievably annoying.
Stonewall, I am sorry but until we beat Paulson and GMU, we have to include them. It does not matter
the records, we are the GMOOS witch with a capital B!
Even when Hewwitt was there we couldn't seem to beat them, and he was a horrible coach.
