A-10 Standings

It was funny. However, I must say if we continue to improve, I will book a room in Trump DC. It might be too soon to buy plane tickets to the final four.

Discussed at length how weak the A-10 is this year. Came across a couple of stats to confirm. Conference vs. Top 25 0-15. Squeaked out 6 wins vs. Top 50, however 38 losses !
Lets go Rhody, carrying entire dead weight of conference in March Madness.

If VCU loses to George Mason and Duquesne loses to Rhode Island, Richmond would be in sole possession of 3rd place in the conference. If Richmond wins tomorrow, we will be in sole possession of 2nd place.

Dukes just don’t realize that every game doesn’t have to be OT...

Think the Ulla mentioned that we could play with Rhode Island. Oh I know transitive ....

VCU is surging. Thought they’d not make tourney, but they might at this rate.

VCU’s profile is garbage: One barely decent non-conference win over ODU and already three conference losses in the weakest A-10 since we have been a member. Oh yeah, there’s also that 17 point HOME loss to sub-200 us (a resume crater). Piling up a bunch of wins against this non-descript league isn’t going to impress who they need to impress. They need to win the tourney just like everyone else not named Rhode Island, we will beat them again though just to be safe

Honestly do not see anyone in the A10 getting an NCAA bid save for the A10 tournament winner; that includes Rhode Island.

Yes, but they didn’t lose. They’re 17-3 and no. 24 in the country, with a good rpi.

A bunch of losses to bad teams will sink them but I wouldn’t say they’re unimpressive.

To date the Highest rpi left out of NCAA is #21. And with the “strength” of A10 it would not take many losses to a10 teams for URI to fall below that.

Most reasonable people would likely currently project that URI is VERY likely to get in (90%) (unless they crater), and the winner of the A-10 tourney is definitely (100%) likely to get in. The biggest question is whether any team in the A-10 can beat URI in the A-10 Tourney and the odds are probably at least 30% that an "upset" will happen. The "best" team does not always win.

Why can't UR be the team that pulls off that upset? Just gotta keep winning and improving and gaining confidence and developing our defense, our alternate "schemes" and our bench. Lots of work to do, but definitely not a pipe-dream. It could happen.

URI will get an at large if they don't win the A10 tournament. They are a top 25 team, ranked in both polls and also ranked very highly by predictive metrics.

Davidson is only 5-3...we and VCU are a half game up on them. But yes, nice to have those tiebreakers in hand over Davidson and Duquesne and no worse than a split with VCU.

Hope the guys can savor today's win, learn from anything we did not do particularly well, and continue to "live-in-the moment" for the rest of the season. Looking forward (or backwards) is a loser's game. Whatever we have been doing lately... let's keep doing it. The "D" is getting consistently better and our offense against the Zone is improving from game-to-game. And, we have figured out which 5 starters give us the best chance of winning, and what rotations work pretty darned well. Let's keep this going. Roll Spide.
