I think the last 9 years of minimal results, new facilities, and a dump truck of $ make UR an attractive job regardless of what they do with Mooney.
There will always be young hungry coaches who will work hard for half the price. This really comes down to whether “we” see the loss of CM to another program as a loss. Certainly that’s not universally seen that way.The flip side would be he doesn't agree to the extension, and he coaches out his contract. We make the NCAA next season, and then he has all the leverage in the world. He likely leaves at that point - but in the meantime I would wonder if word gets around what happened and that makes other coaches think twice about coming to UR.
I don't know, in my opinion - I think up and coming coaches would be hesitant to see the last coach was either given an extension with a low buyout, or the two sides could not reach an agreement on an extension - will the same happen to me?
Its a gamble. I agree - Mooney doesn't have much leverage but we have to remember not to burn other bridges as well.
Wait a minute - forget everything I just said, I just remembered athletics is not a priority at UR. Just let him coach out his contract until the final day like Jason Garrett at Dallas. And then lets offer the next coach half as much as we were paying Mooney.
The P5’s already saw the billboard.Let’s get our PR people out there pushing the story about how great of a job Mooney has done this year, turning things around, and even making the post season after losing our leading scorer for 4-6 weeks.
And then hopefully a P5 school swoops in a nabs Mooney before we can extend him...
Welcome back, Mo. Your insight has been missed.
Yes, without Mo, where would we have gotten a "Chris Mooney is stealing money" topic?
