2017 Schedule

Blame teams like Va Tech for that. They loved playing on Thursday to promote their brand, and once they started getting good it was a ratings goldmine for ESPN.
Say what you want but thursday night football in blacksurg is something else. The game here against Miami on Thursday this year was an awesome experience.

It is all about rating and advertising $$$. Most college football fans view I-AA/FCS as non-division one.

Of course they're wrong. Most college football fans and tv execs laugh at FCS D1 Football.

I think most don't realize that FCS is D1 football. They don't realize that HOF guys like Jerry Rice and Walter Payton played at that level.

Perhaps my choice of words "most college football fans" is a bit strong. I have talked to some fans who expressed a dismissive attitude towards the FCS level of football. Comments such as "I only am interested in big boy football" casts a put down attitude towards FCS by some fans.

And some people are only interested in basketball, or even limited to the NBA, or baseball, or soccer, or HS sports, of girls sports, my point is we don't all have to like the same thing

Strange Front Royal, I have personally spoken to a number of ex-FBS players in the past few years,
one that played a number of years in the NFL, and they all have said "schools like a Richmond or JMU
play a high level of football that goes under appreciated."
I guess they don't know what they are talking about.

Ask Brian Shields how he feels about the same thing. He got a great education and had a great playing career. Now he's putting me through VT.

I can see why they didn't put the schedule in with the season ticket renewal package. I don't recall ever having such a bad home schedule. Howard, Elon, Albany, Stony Brook and W&M

Sounds like 5 wins to me. I'll take 5 mediocre opponents at home as often as we can get them. Always more fun to leave a winner than see a good game that we lost.

I'll be there; but for our fan base that is less than die hard. I think we're going to end up with a lot of empty seats. Maybe the beginning of the Huesman era will encourage them to come. It's certainly a difficult schedule.

There is a need to show strong support for Huesman, his staff, and the team irrespective of the opponent. Make this the beginning of a great new era for the team and by the fans.

I agree 100%, but if 20 wins in the last 2 years, 3 straight playoff appearances, Brian Brown catching darts, Kyle Lauletta throwing darts, and 1000 yard rushers didn't bring out the fans (especially students), I'm not sure a new head coach will do it. UR has put a pretty exciting product on the field the last few years. I think that will continue with Huesman, but I am not sure we will see a big bump in filling those seats. Nothing would please me more however, than to be proven wrong.

Let's win 'em all at RS and among the away games be sure we win at the over sized chicken coop...home of Dillweeds#1.

The students showing up is fools gold. Most of them have no idea what football is. UR is a Quidditch school.

4 out of the 5 games this year will be small crowds. We should forget sellout announcements...that's no indication of butts in the seats. W&M is going to be the biggest crowd, provided W&M is doing well (no guarantee).
