Too bad they didn't keep it for FCS football.10/29/87, we played a Thursday night game against BU @ BU and won. It was one of ESPN's Thursday night I-AA series that subsequently turned into the Thursday night FBS game.

Say what you want but thursday night football in blacksurg is something else. The game here against Miami on Thursday this year was an awesome experience.Blame teams like Va Tech for that. They loved playing on Thursday to promote their brand, and once they started getting good it was a ratings goldmine for ESPN.
has your dad stayed in touch with Bob Blier UR's star QB in the mid 80's?...if so, was Blier really a relative of the Steelers RB Rocky Blier?
I'm curious as well since Rocky Blier's real name is Bob.
I had heard that Rocky was Bob's uncle.Rocky and Bob were cousins as I recall.
Most college football fans and tv execs laugh at FCS D1 Football.
Ask Brian Shields how he feels about the same thing. He got a great education and had a great playing career. Now he's putting me through VT.Strange Front Royal, I have personally spoken to a number of ex-FBS players in the past few years,
one that played a number of years in the NFL, and they all have said "schools like a Richmond or JMU
play a high level of football that goes under appreciated."
I guess they don't know what they are talking about.
Two of these teams we lost to last year.I can see why they didn't put the schedule in with the season ticket renewal package. I don't recall ever having such a bad home schedule. Howard, Elon, Albany, Stony Brook and W&M
I'll be there; but for our fan base that is less than die hard. I think we're going to end up with a lot of empty seats. Maybe the beginning of the Huesman era will encourage them to come. It's certainly a difficult schedule.
Maniac, you got that right. Let's sell out each game! Honestly it fun and exciting! Roll Spide!!!There is a need to show strong support for Huesman, his staff, and the team irrespective of the opponent. Make this the beginning of a great new era for the team and by the fans.
I agree 100%, but if 20 wins in the last 2 years, 3 straight playoff appearances, Brian Brown catching darts, Kyle Lauletta throwing darts, and 1000 yard rushers didn't bring out the fans (especially students), I'm not sure a new head coach will do it. UR has put a pretty exciting product on the field the last few years. I think that will continue with Huesman, but I am not sure we will see a big bump in filling those seats. Nothing would please me more however, than to be proven wrong. There is a need to show strong support for Huesman, his staff, and the team irrespective of the opponent. The students showing up is fools gold. Most of them have no idea what football is. UR is a Quidditch school.I agree 100%, but if 20 wins in the last 2 years, 3 straight playoff appearances, Brian Brown catching darts, Kyle Lauletta throwing darts, and 1000 yard rushers didn't bring out the fans (especially students), I'm not sure a new head coach will do it.
