VCU Offensive Rebounding Makes Them a Winner-Why Can't UR Just Try the Same?

I think one major signal that you have a great coach is that they want to move on. The best coaches aren’t just chasing dollars, they aspire to win the big enchilada. That’s unlikely at a mid-major for all the reasons trotted out before.

I think if CM had that fire he’d have moved on when he had a chance. Maybe he didn’t think he had much of a chance at BC or GT of getting deep into the tournament but he has less of a chance at UR. It suggests that he’d rather be comfortable/loyal than win at higher levels. I get it, it just kind of stinks for those of us who care about ncaa tournament success.
Coaches that have long tenure at mid majors are usually successful or the powers that be at their programs are good with their stewardship of the program as long as it’s not an embarrassment. Mooney is approaching the embarrassment zone.

Will take this a little further - The Coast Guard does more with less than any other agency/service I know. Fewer than 60,000 of them, but when disaster strikes they always seem to be the folks that have their stuff together from the gitgo.

Motto -Semper Paratus meaning Always Ready. Coasties live that.
One of my nephews is a USCGA grad (98, I think) and isa lifer. He's presently in DC and will be sent to Taiwan as an attaché in the near future for 2 or 3 years.

If you take two teams that are fairly evenly matched and one attacks the boards and the other runs away from them to "fend off the fast break", the team that fights for it will win 95 times out of 100. So why do we handicap ourselves in that way at a fundamental level?
We're happy with the 5, two times over.

VCU Offensive Rebounding Makes Them a Winner-Why Can't UR Just Try the Same?

I watched the last 10 minutes of the VCU v. Dayton game last night. VCU dominated their own offensive boards. They would take a 3, miss, rebound, shoot, miss, rebound, and keep going. VCU had 23 offensive rebounds last night! Meanwhile, year after year and counting, the Spiders shoot and run to the other side of the court- one shot and done. Why not at least try it out? Crash the board when we shoot and see what happens. Several of the close losses could have been wins with a few offensive boards and second and third chance shots. I just don't get it.
And they don't even have a strong 5, just a bunch of wiry guys who have desire and can jump.
