The Spiders did rise to the occasion with distinction!
Closed scrimmage with ECU today. I need to choose words carefully and be intentionally evasive. Team will go as they shoot. Hunt/Tyne's team. Tanner and AR shot well. Washington too in less minutes. No comment on McGlothin.
Hey Satch, it was good to meet you today. Your Spiders were definitely the better team today. Obviously, it did not get better after we departed Sec. 207!Login to view embedded media
this is one of the CAA games I will miss as both teams move on to their respective futures…after the historic W&M rivalry and the emotional JMU rivalry…the once powerful Blue Hens were my favorite game!
maybe this finale’ will have some of the Ward v. Flacco 2007, Lauletta and the Spiders versus Rooco’s Hens in 2017 or the drama of our remarkable 2022 win…there have been some very good memories versus the Blue Hens and some bitter ones too…
it's likely to be a very tough game for the Spiders…we’ve got Championship and FCS Playoff hopes…the Hens have nothing except the chance of finishing at the top of the CAA standings and blowing up the hopes of their opponents…Coach Carty believes he can keep his team motivated…
on Media Day Delaware was picked to finish 5th in the CAA…16 starters return from last season’s Playoff team... they include an All American and All CAA RB, their explosive QB and five offensive linemen…they averaged 31 points per game last season…their defense Portaled up adding five new faces…
Delaware could be the best squad Richmond faces this season…coming off of a bye week we’ll need to be ready to play our best to win this one…a win against a team likely to finish somewhere near the top of the CAA would bolster our Championship hopes and an FCS Playoff resume...
but I’m sure there’s nothing the Blue Hens would enjoy more than saying goodbye with a win at The Brick House!
Enjoy the Countdown!
Go Spiders!
Hammered.34 - 17 Delaware seems a bit much. Time to step up and lower the hammer.
Huesman also said there were 4 skilled players who couldn't go in the second half so he had to roll with what he had offensively. He didn't name them other than Robbert.Huesman talked about it during radio program and said he heard the boos when we kept running the ball late. He also implied the defense was gassed and they just wanted to run the clock out and win the game.
As thin as Spider defense is right now, I do not blame him.
This was a great win, especially with the injuries the Spider are fighting through. Lot of heart showed by the whole team, but I must admit I did not think Spider defense could shut out the Hens for a whole half.

My only critique is that I don’t like it when we take our foot off the gas pedal when we have a lead and play in “not to lose” mode. But I am not going to gripe on that today. Offense was efficient and had a good balance attack of running/passing in the first half. Defense was excellent the whole game. Big win that should bump our ranking 5-6 spots for next poll. Great win!!
Maybe they will drop to the Patriot League. It wouldn't be UVA basketball if they didn't score in the 40s!!

I am beginning to agree…34 - 17 Delaware seems a bit much. Time to step up and lower the hammer.
