The Biden Doctrine

Biden is afraid of his own shadow. He has left the poor Ukrainians twisting on the vine. Why does Biden withhold the aid that has been approved? This has nothing to do with Trump. The world is on fire because of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

This has to be politics. Biden does not want to help Trump. He is too afraid of even implementing the legislation he worked to enact.

2024–25 schedule

Here's how our non-conference opponents fared tonight:

  • Charlotte handled Presbyterian (KP #288), 88-79.
  • Bucknell won @ Delaware (KP #276), 85-73, as a 4.5 point underdog.
  • Maine was blasted by #7 Duke.
  • Ball State lost @ Georgia State (KP #189) by 5.
  • FGCU lost @ UNC Greensboro (KP #173) by 9.
  • LA Tech, Belmont, W&M, and VMI all cruised vs. non-D1 opponents.

'24-'25 Spiders Friends and Family

Opening night updates on former Spiders:
  • Marcus Randolph - Started for St. Peter's against Seton Hall and played 23 minutes before fouling out. Scored 9 points on 2-7 FG, 1 steal but 4 TO.
  • Isaiah Wilson - Played 12 minutes off the bench for Wintrhop in their blowout win over Piedmont University. Didn't score but had 6 assists, 2 rebounds and 2 steals.
  • Aidan Noyes - Started for Belmont in their W over Maryville College. 9 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists.
  • Jason Nelson - YSU had to postpone their game tonight due to a campus-wide power outage. That's a first for me.
  • Trevor Smith - Played 21 minutes off the bench for Hampton, scoring 11 points with 4 assists and 3 rebounds. Shot 3-10 from the field, 2-8 from 3PT.
  • Malcolm Dread - DNP in the Mount's W over Notre Dame Maryland.

Around the A-10: 2024–25 Edition

Figured we could use a thread separate from the betting one to follow how our conference mates are doing.

14 squads in action on opening day, with 13 of them playing D-I competition. Davidson was the exception, hosting D-III William Peace, and of course the Spiders were not in action. The A-10 went a respectable 11–3 on the day, with several squads recovering from early deficits to score wins.

Not a lot of surprises I guess. Mostly beating up on inferior competition, though Loyola only winning by 5 over Chicago State is a bit surprising to me even though Chicago State isn't quite the basement dweller they were a few years ago. SLU falling to Santa Clara was a missed opportunity for a decent win...gotta have those if you've hoping to be a contender. Hope Avila is okay.

I don't know whether to be surprised about Duquesne losing to Lipscomb...it's Duquesne. VCU rolled over Bellarmine with their guards doing a ton of damage. Not a lot of bench production and they really only went 8 deep. Billups only got 4 minutes but had 5 points, while Jennings was scoreless in 15 minutes.

Wins
Bona 70, CSUN 56
UMass 103, UNH 74
Dayton 87, St. Francis 57
Mason 75, NC Central 58
VCU 84, Bellarmine 65
St. Joe's 70, Navy 63
La Salle 65, American 52
URI 96, Fairfield 58
GW 76, Mercyhurst 59
Loyola 77, Chicago State 72
Davidson 88, William Peace 47 (D-III)

Losses
Santa Clara 85, SLU 78
St. John's 92, Fordham 60
Lipscomb 77, Duquesne 72

Women's hoops schedule

Huh, I just noticed on our schedule that we're now listed as playing Alabama instead of Clemson in the West Palm Beach Classic. According to the event website, Clemson is no longer listed as participating. Clemson's schedule currently just shows TBA for the two dates when they were supposed to be in the event and I can't find any info about them pulling out of it. Very weird.

Notably, Alabama was 30 in last year's final NET, compared to Clemson at 90, and the Tide were #24 in the preseason AP poll this season.

What's also weird is our schedule just shows a game swap with us playing Alabama on 12/20 in the slot where we were supposed to play Clemson, and then Tennessee on 12/21. But the event website shows us playing Tennessee first and Alabama second. Alabama's schedule shows "Michigan State/Richmond" for both days. Michigan State's schedule still shows TBA for both days. So who are we playing when?

2024 Richmond Spiders Football - Opponents Countdown - Towson

Sounds like a great trip back. Bernie's and Phil's must have been memory lane visits, but suspect you were disappointed that the Tempo Room is no longer open. ;)
Don't think I made it there. There was a bar at the little plaza at the NE corner of Patterson and Parham we sometimes frequented and also a bar on the north side of Patterson down by Libbie where a one-man band named Oldy B Goldy often played.

It was a great trip. We have a beautiful university.

Women: @Temple Game thread: Mon 11/4 - 8pm ESPN+

Great win! Spiders played with a balanced offense, scoring on different levels and led the rebound battle on defense. Looks like we have great depth. Ullstrom scored 32 points tonight, and what I like about this team is that it seems like we can have 3-4 players who could score 20+ on any given night. Turnovers was obviously the biggest downside from tonight, but understandable with freshmen and newcomers playing together and the first game jitters of the season. Still, very impressive win away against a solid Temple team! All without Alston our likely starting PG who I believe is out for injury. Not sure for how long.
