Revenue sharing in A10?

well, somewhat surprisingly, JOC did ask Mooney about UR "revenue sharing" & what that amount would be. I guess the assumption is UR has or will be opting into NCAA settlement. Tho I don't get why JOC didn't confirm w Mooney or still hasn't with someone in UR admin. The question itself presumes they are. I said in another thread I was 100% expecting UR to opt in, at this point I expect every school to do so, but I still think it's reasonable to ask confirmation.

Even Moon's non answer seemed to presume it. But overall Moon was quite perplexed. said he & school didn't know what their salary cap would be, only there has been "discussions" & waiting on A10 guidance on what an appropriate figure would be, which honestly seemed like a weird thing to rely on. UR being reactive unlike VCU. Then he starts philosophizing about how A10 schools are so different. Which is the exact kind of answer expected.

PS....in the Patriot League the teams r so alike!

Brandon Jennings - 2024 Offer

again, I don't understand why we almost exclusively give up on offensive rebounding to stop transition. I don't think it's necessary. you can situationally offensive rebound with certain players from certian spots on the floor and still stop transition.
I’m with you here and have always thought this. We aren’t ever going to be Houston, but they just wear you down on the offensive glass and turn ever missed shot into a 50/50 ball. It’s exhausting knowing you won’t have one free rebound during the game. Not only are you worn down but it demoralizes you.

It’s like running Derrick Henry at the defense. The run game may start slow but over 4 quarters of the guy running you over eventually you’re going to give.

I’ll just add this season sucks. Just end it here and put the old dog down. Richmond men’s basketball is not fun to watch. Thank god we have the women making Richmond look good.

I do think AP is getting pretty good as a playmaker. His height and reach allows him to make those entry passes easily. A pass that likely gets intercepted if Tyne is trying to make it, gets through from AP. I agree with the sentiment that we need to get as many minutes as possible for guys that are in the future plans at this point. Really would have been nice to see the redshirts play this year.

Coaching incompetence

I believe President Hallock when he says he believes D-1 athletics bring tremendous value and diversity to the University, but I don't think he's talking about the new D-1 model that's evolving rapidly. I'd guess he's thinking about the good ole days of mostly amateur college sports. It'll be very interesting to see how this whole thing evolves.

And even if Hallock did believe in this new D-1 model, our history suggests that a lot of the academics at UR like to look at us as an elite academic school and sports as very ancillary to that. There is validity to that thinking as that it was universities are for, not some minor league athletic programs. That is also not the world we live in either today.

And hence a large part of the reason we have Mooney for 20 years, why we hired Hardt from Bucknell (Patriot league school), we moved football down to the Patriot League. Our sports are seen by the powerbrokers at UR as a student amenity that we offer to student in our quest of educating them. So, yeah, the Patriot League is some safe haven for like minded institutions. We would be all over the Ivy league too if they allowed us.

I and I suspect many others on this board, see UR as very different from Patriot/Ivy league schools. I see UR as an elite academic institution but also able to have highly competitive national athletics and would like to see us more in the mold of Duke/Wake/Vandy than Bucknell/Lafeyette/Cornell. I think we have the money to be more like the former but we clearer don't have the organizational alignment to make it happen.

but no, I didn't cherry pick stats "to say anything I want them to". I gave you 6 of the top 10 offensive rebounding teams in the country this year who aren't winning. I didn't go further but I can look at the next 10 if you think that's a better sample size.

I'm just saying that offensive rebounding by itself isn't a special predicator to winning, and I don't see anything that says it's "statistically proven" to be. I'd bet there are a ton of stats that are better predicators. heck, probably defensive rebounding. maybe turnover rate ... assist to turnover ratio ... blocked shots per game ... 3 point shooting percentage ... 3 point shooting defense ...

being great at anything helps you win. being great at multiple things is probably the best predicator.

Setting us up for the Patriot League move, one Facebook post at a time...
As troubling as it would be to many fans, you could be right...while the football move to the Patriot was pushed along by the disintegration of the former CAA...the move also kept the University from the pressure of having to get its hands dirty with a bunch of NIL money for football; player agents; employees of the school etc for a large roster of football players. The Patriot League model is likely to stay much closer to the good ole days of amateur college sports as things get sorted out in the years ahead.

Now you have the same questions and challenges flaring up in basketball. VCU just said it was going to spend $5M per year on players and take on all of the ramifications that come along with that. I'm afraid that like football the University will not want to dive into the deep water of the new era of college basketball. Once again the Patriot League would offer a much quieter and more traditional port for the Regatta.

Title IX applies to NIL Payments

& in 3 days the DOE will say disregard our last memo
Thats true too. Trump takes office - DOE might not exist anymore.

If the women fill the stadium, sells tons of tickets and merchandise, and have marketability - they should be able to make whatever the market is willing to pay them. But to say - the women's lacrosse player at Gerogia and QB at Georgia have to make the same is ridiculous.

Thats like saying all CEO's need to be paid the same. So the CEO of WalMart should make the same as the CEO of a family run local business.

Agree on GW3. Roche and White have a 1/2 season left of eligibility. Would like to see what we have in GW3 in a larger sample size.
I think at some point, you have to start playing your younger guys. This team has a NET in mid to upper 200's right now, we are not playing for any type of postseason ball. Got to play the guys that are gonna be here next year (or we hope are going to be here).
