2024–25 schedule

Under one month until tipoff in Estero! How's that MTE schedule shaping up?
30 days out on their little ticker on the Gulf Coast website and the men's tournament is still 8 balls saying to be announced. I guess attendance at this thing is going to be sketchy at best considering you don't know who's playing, when they are playing.

For the life of me, I can't figure out why they haven't resolved it yet. You know the teams, just put together some type of schedule and get it out there for folks who want to buy tickets to actually do so. All this tells me there is still a non-zero chance that they just cancel the whole thing, wipe the mens tourney and just play the women's.

OT: Woj bomb!

If the NCAA wasn't the definition of fat cat leadership failing upwards while also failing to understand its own market, there could have been better integration of all this and maybe just a bit more sympathy towards them.

Instead, they decided to wildly exploit former players BY USING THEIR IMAGES AND LIKENESS IN A VIDEO GAME (including position, number, team and personal characteristics like shaved head/lefthanded for O'Bannon) and giving them zero part of the profits. Meantime, they took like a billion dollars less than they could have made for their broadcast rights, when they had 100% of all the leverage. Buffoonery. Those idiots probably made millions leading that organization.

Players are now just taking what's being offered. If someone handed me a winning lottery ticket and just said send out a tweet about this to promote the lottery, and the winnings are all yours, damn right I'd do that.

it is big business but yes, here to educate first. If not get rid of all tax exempt status immediately. these r sports teams as part of universities. need to keep that in perspective. but I acknowledge it's going to the pro sports model & that perspective is getting lost unfortunately. its a huge time commitment but I don't view as job. You do & that's crux of difference.

also u have to look at P&L not just revenue. the student athlete is definitely not responsible for all the income. I guess my kid is entitled to gate revenue from high school sports I never realized that should be a thing. The fans will cheer for anyone. Was it Seinfeld who said we essentially cheer for jerseys? Nobody cares if u r not wearing the jersey.

your outdated thinking paragraph does not describe what I've said because they can earn NIL, they should be able to get a summer job, etc. But paid employees...no. I've criticized the exorbitant contracts of coaches & ADs for a long time, the $ should go into facilities and making college as affordable as possible. If not university athletics at minimum should lose tax exempt status. Could be byproduct of all this.

If u want pro sports model now u can't transfer but we can trade you, and yeah drafts out of high school. That star QB, sorry u can't go to Notre Dame or Tennessee, u r being made to go to Boise State or Maryland. We go there and I guarantee you hear....wait wait wait sorry we're really not employees!

Nothing I can do about it...my feelings r not that deep but went kind of down a rabbit hole when you asked me what "fake" NIL is....it's almost all fake. And tbh I don’t disagree w all u say, u always make good points. I just feel the system is becoming broken for the worse. I’m more interested in our team and season. Whatever the landscape Richmond hoops needs to be in the thick of it.

We have a very good football program

No one is an "enemy" here. Two people can want us to have the best football program possible while disagreeing how to accomplish that goal.
I'm not sure what you are referring to here.....Villanova and William and Mary aren't our rivals? That's what I am talking about. Not anyone specifically on this board if that's what you are. I've never endorsed spider on spider violence we see over on the basketball board.

I disagree vehemently with those who think the PL is or will be a good move and will not keep my mouth quiet, my main anger is directed at these overpaid clowns trying to put lipstick on a pig, not the posters on here. The PL isn't going to magically become what were hoping it will anytime soon and we need to recognize that and figure out how to navigate it going forward. That should absolutely mean scheduling the cream of the crop teams like NDSU, SDSU and what not since we are not going to be getting many quality opponents in the conference slate. We should aim to try and make Villanova an annual game now in addition to the WM, and adding a NDSU/SDSU type opponent. No more mediocre teams from good conferences and absolutely no MEAC games since we have several built in ones in conference. We have to absolutely schedule aggressively in the non conference to keep our SOS respectable. I have little confidence there will be a change in our scheduling model by our brain trust.

All are entitled to their opinion, but they better have a good defense for it, and we are already seeing buyers remorse among the fan base. There is no way you can tell me with a straight face that in this current climate, this was the correct move. Everything is being sold on hoping this move pans out, not that it will. We went from a relatively decent size fish in a large pond to a giant fish in a puddle.

I sincerely hope we dominate the Patriot League and like a rising tide, will lift all the boats of teams with little to no football pedigree. I admitted last year after bashing RH that he did a good job turning the team around and will have no problem admitting the move to the PL was smart should we ever realize that vision. I hope those who were on board with this move are starting to second guess it as well, the numbers don't lie the CAA is head and heels above the PL. I have grave concerns that this will not at all elevate the program and set it back. Otherwise NOVA/WM would of made this move with us.

Until then, the administration should be absolutely blasted for making this move. We fired presidents over considering this move. And yes that was a non schollie patriot league, but the conference isn't much better when they werent offering them.

2024 Presidential Election

I refuse to believe that a majority of American voters hate America enough to put human scum like Trump back in the White House. If you don't like Harris, fine, just sit this election out or vote for Mickey Mouse. If Trump is elected again, it's truly the end of rational thought and the importance of fact in our society, and we officially will have signaled as a nation that when you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.
There is a lot of hatred for Trump. He also connects with a lot of people who really like him. He doesn't have to worry about winning California or NY. He is only concerned with the 7 or 8 states that will sway the electoral college votes.

I do not believe those people who say the election is swinging towards Trump. These same people predicted a landslide Republican win in 2022, which did not happen.

I stand by my prediction that Nov 5 is the last we will see of Donald Trump.

With a seating capacity of 4,400, Beirne Stadium utilizes a design that is usually reserved for larger stadiums, ensuring excellent sight lines and maximum comfort for spectators.[2] A 3,200-seat permanent bleacher comprises the backdrop for the home side of the field, while 1,200 additional seats are available on the visitor's side. Three hundred seats in the stadium are equipped with backs and arm rests. The stadium also has its own athletic training center, office space and public rest rooms.

Are the Spiders flying up today, or did the buses leave the night before last?

Go Spiders!

We have a very good football program

W&M was never going to go at same time as us. 1. More complicated as full CAA member vs. 1 sport & 2. How we left CAA originally still lingers

I’m confident w&m is not excited about the current CAA makeup but if they stay CAA or go Southern it’s basically saying athletics has nothing to do with your academic rep. U compete athletically & u compete academically but totally separate. And that no brand makes a difference except the Ivy. If a w&m can make that distinction & not worry bout academic rep u do have to scratch your head at our decision.

Nova who knows. But we need at least 1 of the 2 imo to validate move.
This makes the point. Why now? Why the sudden push to switch to the Patriot League, now?

OT: Woj bomb!

These r colleges & universities after all.
Oh yes ... we're there to educate, lol. College athletics is big business. If their mission statement is honest, it's to make as much money as possible. That's why coaches are paid so much.

Rutgers was paid $58M from the Big10 last year. that doesn't include ticket sales, parking, merchandise and concessions, etc...
Alumni donations increase when sports do well. Win and applications increase, so school ranking increase.

But you feel the student athlete who is resposible for all that income, who grinds and is banged up all year, who stays on campus almost all summer so can't have an internship or any summer job, who gets probably 3 days off at Christmas ... that kid should just be grateful for a scholarhip? While the school, the coach, AD, and conference commmissioner make millions off of them? That's very outdated thinking. Just because that's how it was doesn't mean that's how it should be.

If you're great at your job and generate revenue for what you do, you'll be paid a lot by someone. If you're marginal and easily replaced, you won't.

OT: Woj bomb!

I hadn’t even thought about it. Why are million dollar qb’s getting any scholarship money. That makes no sense.
Good point. If you are getting a million dollars, you most likely aren't getting to get any needs based scholarship as determined by these schools financial sliding scale. Meanwhile, some kid, whose parents make $100,000 annually are having to pay 40K to go to the school, cause that kid can't throw a ball.
