2024 Richmond Spiders Football - Opponents Countdown - Bryant

Bryant has a pretty good QB in Jarrett Guest, who has a 63% completion percentage. Bryant is 2-5 on the season, with 3 CAA losses.

Looks like they like to dink those short passes which I would expect against our pass rush. With our DBs hurting we need to be alert and not take these guys lightly.

2024 Richmond Spiders Football - Prologue - Delaware

Thought the Spiders won this one in the trenches...controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball for most of the game...the almost ten minute drive in the 4th quarter was an old fashioned thing of beauty...the offensive line was getting big time push on the worn down Blue Hens...it was brutal!

Go Spiders!
That was old fashion smash mouth football and secured the win!

We have a very good football program

When I saw the subject - header - title of your post I immediately thought of the lack of fans. I see you addressed that. One of my pet peeves is/was the elimination of the volunteer segment of the Spider club at least decades ago. We rely on employees of an athletic department to generate ticket fans. Avid fans and local alumni could do a lot to penetrate the community to garner more support from the general population of the Richmond area. I realize the world has changed from the time there were not tons of games available on cable tv and the internet. Maybe we can’t expect to routinely draw over 10000 fans like often occurred at city stadium. But may we could sell out Robins Stadium once a year and never have attendance drop below 50 percent of the seats. I would be willing to volunteer if others would do the same. If we don’t I fear economics will require we drop significantly below FCS.

We have a very good football program

We are 27-10 (.730) overall since the midway point of the 2021 season, when Mancuso returned from injury. Take away the body-bag money games at Virginia and Michigan State and we are 27-7 (.794).

We've been to the playoffs the last two years and won a game each time. We would have been a playoff team in 2021 had Mancuso stayed healthy the entire season.

I wish we drew more fans. And yes, I know the CAA isn't what it used to be, with JMU moving up to FBS, which we are UR have absolutely no control over. But the bottom line is, our football program is pretty darn good, something which isn't often acknowledged here.

UVA's Tony Bennett is retiring

I missed that from his earlier post. I don't think any coach has ever earned the right to pick his successor. And, especially now with Bennett, when he has admitted his way is not the best way to navigate the changes out there. This screams hire someone outside the program after doing a long, thought out search.
I completely understand this point of view and am sure there are many people who are fans of UVA basketball that share this sentiment.

I can't comprehend this. no, the guy that negotiated an extension 4 months ago and then quit isn't a part of the program anymore. he doesn't get to pick his replacement.

well in this case he does since there'e no time, but unless it goes amazingly well they may look for a permanent replacement after the season.
For me it’s a respect thing. He won a national championship, was 2 time national coach of the year, and won several ACC championships. However, I completely understand the perspective you have that this doesn’t give a 100% pass for him to pick his successor; especially considering UVA’s recent performance and how what worked for Bennett in the past doesn’t appear to fit in today’s college landscape. My bigger point is whether or not UVA decided to go with who Bennett wanted, I am sure they would’ve liked more time to weigh all their options. Instead it was a last minute decision that forced their hand.

2024 Richmond Spiders Football - Countdown - Delaware Blue Hens

Hey Satch, it was good to meet you today. Your Spiders were definitely the better team today. Obviously, it did not get better after we departed Sec. 207!
Good luck the rest of the way. Make a deep run in the FCS playoffs. A bit sad that the series is ending, but we will be in the same conference for MLAX, which is a good thing. All the best!
It was a fun conversation. Thanks for the good wishes. The Hens ran into the Spiders best game of the year. Best wishes for the rest of the season and settling into FBS.

Ha! But before focusing on FBS most Spiders fans and myself would appreciate CAA wins over Rhode Island and Villanova.

I hadn't heard that the Hens had signed on for A-10 MLAX. I've enjoyed a few LAX games every spring since our program began about 10 years ago now. Ha! even after 10 years the finer points of the sport and rules still give me trouble!

Good luck!

Go Spiders!
