NCAA Settlement to Watch - Schools Pay Players

Schools don’t HAVE to fund scholarships up to the roster limit, though you have to believe pretty much every hoops program will.

NIL became a workaround for scholarships…call a kid a walk-on but shovel NIL his way that is equivalent to a scholarship. So the settlement was no more scholarship limits, just roster limits. Everybody can get a scholarship/NIL to level each school decides to fund.

So walkons are no more, they have to be on scholarship to be on the team? Do current walkons get grandfathered in, or do they have to eat a scholarship or find a new school?

I'm a little unclear on the reasoning for a roster limit of players. Why not just raise the scholarship limit, but still allow walkons? Of all the issues in college hoops, having too many walkons did not seem to be one of them.

Deleware Game

There is a thread with (very deserved ) praise for the team’s performance yesterday. I personally noted that it was the most fun I’ve had at Robin’s Stadium in years. Message boards are unfortunately a haven for venting and knee jerk reactions (check out Alabama’s or even Texas’s boards last night). I don’t consider the “negative” posts about attendance as attacking the team or program…quite the opposite as these guys deserve a lot more support. I also have high expectations for this program so when we lay an egg against Morgan State or Wofford I’m going to be one of those venting but I’ll still be at every game supporting the team with my $ and voice. Great win yesterday. If we keep playing like this it’s going to be a very fun few months ahead.

Deleware Game

I will go ahead a start a thread since no one else wants to comment on game yesterday. I know we play great when I can come on here and there are no posts. Everyone that regularly posts must be sad because there was not much to complain about. Great job by players and coaches responding to a big challenge that Deleware brought to town. We were by far the best team yesterday and made plays that champions need to make. We finished red zones drives with touchdowns. We created turnovers. We controlled the line scrimmage on both sides of the ball and we pressured the QB. Great effort all the way around and certainly appreciated by this fan.

We have a very good football program

This program is indeed strong. The staff has done an excellent job of recruiting local and nationwide talent but with a definite focus on the local high school talent that we are able to sign. We are a competing for conference championships again on a regular basis and and have been a playoff participant the last couple of years. Tickets and parking are a bargain. The talent level is great and we are winning. All we can do is keep supporting this team and try to bring friends and family out for a fun Saturday afternoon and hope they continue to come back. Times have changed since our City Stadium Days with television and streaming of games. We also have somewhat split up our fan base with the stadium structure with two sides and three parking lots but that was the sacrifice to move on campus. Hopefully we can win out and the WM game can pack the stadium. This team deserves it. What a great display of depth and talent to beat a team moving to FBS relatively easy with all of our injuries yesterday.
