Womens - VCU @ RC - Sun 1/19 2pm CBS Sports Network

VCU is a good team. They beat Saint Joseph’s the game before. A10 WBB is deep this year with 10 teams who could all beat each other in a given night. Plus it’s a rivalry game. I’m sure it’ll be a good game and I’m excited to watch it.

Good game because of rivalry, but in this case I think the UR Women got their wakeup call when they lost to Fordham and then narrowly beat a good GMU team, which is a good team. The last two have been blowouts, and I expect a smaller blowout with VCU.

UR 78 VCU 62

Anyone have thoughts around logistics for this game? For men's games I usually roll right in with parking and seats pre-determined....how early is everyone getting there?

8-0 run to start against VCU. Hitting 3s. VCU has only 1 FGA and 3 turnovers. Love watching this team.

Go Lady Spiders! Will have to scoreboard watch since this game is on CBS Sports Network. I typically have been watching parts of games on ESPN+.

Better than the 61 points on 70% shooting they dropped on Bona in the first half last game?

Awesome job Lady Spiders and glad the fans showed up to support.

However, UR promotions team needs to stop with the (insert color here) OUT games unless they are going to get a marketing partner. The Men’s game was an especially lame white out and this Ladies game doesn’t look much better and most fans typically wear Red in the first place.

I get there about 20 mins before. you can get there 10 min early. The delay would be getting tickets, depends on line, allow 10 mins, can find plenty of good seats.

What happened to UR giving out shirts for the games? I remember going to red outs where they placed shirts on every seat for fans. I’m with you. If UR wants to promote a “red out” or “white out” then it would be nice if they helped by providing the shirts.

Handing out shirts when tickets cost $3 is a bit of a losing proposition.

We got there about 20-25 mins early...wasn't sure how crowded it would be with promos and cross town rival game...great showing all around!

To me it’s worth the extra cost to pay for cheap shirts to help enhance the overall atmosphere. It wasn’t done for the men’s game yesterday either. Personally, I think it would be a nice touch from the university to supply the shirts of the “insert color out” that they want to promote.

Well - I believe at women's games, I have seen this 3 times this year - when they shoot out shirts of the cannon or cheerleaders throw shirts - many times these are old shirts they find and have never been used. I saw a girl one game get a shirt that said 98-99 Spiders on it. That is a marketing fail and on par for UR. At the very least - give out generic shirts or buy a bulk of them at the beginning of the year to throw out.

They did say they were old shirts this time.

But seriously - here is UR acting like they don't have money or trying to save a penny. We have a women's team that is near the top 25. This might be the best 2 year run in women's history and to give out shirts they see what they have left in boxes deep down in the depths of the Robins Center? Really?

Speak for yourself Trap. 98-99? Gimme. That’s close to the mother lode. Unless they have some 80s shirts from the best decade. I’d buy a ticket to this basement closet over the game itself. What else down there? It’s a marketing fail because they should be announcing they r shooting out these shirts in advance. It would sell more tix. Have u ever seen those crazy adult A holes who take a ball or puck from a kid at a game. I might have to bulldoze a 7 year old girl for a retro T.

I know where your going GKiller and I have suggested this before - but again, it would take money. I think it would be awesome on both men and womens side. Have a throwback game. Spiders where retro jerseys - which could be auctioned off after the game to raise money for charity or worn again. Music is from the decade of the jerseys selected. Ask fans to dress up and maybe have a contest, including students. So if it was an 80's theme - wear your best 80's outfit. Have a contest - pull a few people on the court, have crowd decide. Have trivia from that decade throughout the game - some just pop culture, some UR hoops related, etc. Maybe have a dance contest to music at one point, etc. So much you could do - its almost too easy. Maybe bring back a few players, if possible - from teams from that decade or era. So if 80's theme - see if you could 2-3 players to come back for the game to celebrate

But again - this would require UR to purchase uniforms for the occasion. Costs money.

For the men this year would have been a perfect tribute to Beckwith. Have a game where they wear a jersey from one of his teams to honor him - auction off jerseys to donate to Beckwith Fund.
