NCAA Tournament "at large" candidate University of Richmond Women

I did, go LadySpiders.
I would encourage everyone to contribute to the women's team. A. They deserve it. B. I think the support they are receiving is making a statement and a contrast to the lack of support the men's team is similarly making a statement.

You can't help but look at these leaderboards and see the disparity in support not just between men's and women's hoops, but frankly men's hoops and everyone other sports team. Our men's program has exponentially larger social media and other platforms to recruit donations than any other sport, yet other sports are drawing way more donors. When the men's golf team and women's track and field teams are attracting more donors than the Men's Basketball team, you might have a problem.

Morning update. Men's basketball is currently in 13th place among 15 teams. The men's tennis team and women's golf team are the only teams with less donors than men's basketball.

The women's team has about 2.5 times more donors than the men's. Men's Lacrosse is blowing everyone out of the water with most donors and by far the most money raised. Looks like people are supporting programs that win.

Also, Mooney still has not contributed. Peter Thomas has and Goose has as well (Goose and Crabtree look like the only former players who contributed). No current players have contributed either. Numerous current and former women's players have contributed as well as their family members.
I read that and wondered if A10 had started playing again…

So, a couple interesting things to note on the leaderboard.

1. Men's Basketball, our flagship program, is currently in 11th place out of of 15 total sports programs for total number of individual donors. Field Hockey and Men's lacrosse are the Top 2 sports. Both have more than 4 times as many donors that our flagship. The women's team has twice as many donors as the men's teams.
2. I noticed that most of the coaches made donations to UR giving day for their teams. You know which coach hasn't though. Yep, you guessed it the Moonman. Way to show leadership there buddy.
Also, liked seeing players and parents donating to women's basketball, even those who have graduated!

Mooney must have been on a vacay, no video from our MBB leader like Aaron did to promote the women's team. Of course, he also couldn't bother to donate himself either, tough to encourage others to give when you are unwilling to contribute yourself.

Maybe Mooney is spending even more time than normal at CCV

Hopefully they throw in a CCV membership in Aaron's extension ; I did see Odom is getting a membership for a club in Charlottesville but pretty sure he didn't have a CCV one ..

I maintain that not having social media presence or posting stuff like this shouldn’t be viewed as negative, but the juxtaposition between our MBB and WBB approach is very interesting to see. On one hand, no video from coaches or players on MBB. Very few players/former players donating too. For WBB, coach Roussell is vocal about leading the grassroots effort to fundraise and bring excitement to the program. Talks about having big goals and achieving that. Not just tweeting, but also through videos. Also we can see donations from many current/former players and even players who are transferring. Don’t think it necessarily speaks to a stark difference in the mindset of success between the two, but I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the more vocal, generating excitement, forward thinking mentality our WBB coaches and players have are also producing results on the court that reflect that.

It's 2025, how is online invisibility not a negative? Is Chris Mooney going to stop by my house or send a carrier pigeon instead? He only has himself to blame if he needs NIL funds after not crowd-sourcing this opportunity in any way.

I actually thought the difference between their approaches to Giving Day is a perfect microcosm of the trajectories of the two programs.

From the women's program, I got tons of energy, excitement, enthusiasm, passion, and I got the impression that Roussell is busting his a$$ to build something.

Mooney was *completely* invisible. He's not even been in any of the men's social media pictures since the season ended, is he in witness protection? (Also, I don't think it's coincidence that the men team's socials started posting about players donating a few hours after people on this site were pointing out how none of them had.)

Maybe it's just one SID/SMM team lapping the other but damn. He's been here 20 years heading the flagship sport, he should be the most recognized "celebrity" on campus and the most visible statesman for anything the athletic department is doing.

You make a lot of good points and not disagreeing with you here. Would love if our MBB staff and team had a more vocal presence on social media and goals. Helps set the tone like with our WBB team.

It's the whole package. I get some guys don't want to go out and ask for money. Or go on social media. But everything he does screams NO Expectations. His interviews, lack of accountability, lack of social media, etc etc. It's everything.
Totally agree and I am sure it would be easy to hire a social media person to assist as needed. I totally don’t get how Mooney gets so much credit for being a good representative for the University and at the same time is nearly completely invisible. Just like @8LeggedFreak said he is supposed to be the face of the most important team in UR Athletics, but he is nowhere to be found on Giving Day?
