Womens - A10 Semifinals - St Joes @ Henrico Events Center - Saturday 3/8 11am - CBS Sports Network

I’m still proud of this team. The refs were cowards. They ran off the court super fast after making that trash call at the end. No explanation.

I was in line at the concession stand behind St. Joes coach after the game. She seems like a cool person. She said she’d like to order a beer but didn’t think it would look too good. I like this tourney because it’s not separated off or anything. Players out in the concourse after the game still in uniform talking to their parents. Coaches getting snacks at the concession stand. Parents out at the bar having a drink. It has the feel of a college level kids showcase.

what was the trash call at end that u guys r referring to? I did not see the game. but I saw replay of the game winning shot play and I'm not seeing it. was there something else?

After the game winning shot, they reviewed it on the monitors, then the male ref came out on the court and waved it off, so we all celebrated, team included. Then the female ref ran to center court from the other side and said it counted. They both then immediately ran to the lockerroom. No one knew what to think. Strangest ending to a game I've ever seen.

Not sure why it would’ve been waved off either. Didn’t call foul or travel and the shot was clearly before the buzzer went off.

Gotcha. That is weird. I thought meant the on court call. JOC wrote about it in game article…

“As the Hawks celebrated, officials reviewed the play on video.

One of them, Ashley Gloss, came out of the officials' huddle to near midcourt and gave a waving sign. The Spiders celebrated, believing the motion meant Ziegler's goal came after time expired and UR prevailed, extended its school-record winning streak to 18 games. But as officials started making their ways off the court, it became clear Gloss' sign meant "Game over," Ziegler's shot beat the horn.

The Spiders stood bewildered. The Hawks celebrated again.”

Have to think ref just made wrong signal by mistake causing the confusion. Bc no ref could look at replay & rule shot didn’t count.

If that's the explanation, super weak. Every ref knows that's the signal for the basket not counting. Inexcusable to make it after a review.

UR lost because of sloppy play.Check Joes points(22) off UR turnovers(15).Easy baskets.Guard ball handling lost it.

Doogan had only 5points today.

GMU will likely crush Joes which won’t help UR at-large hopes.

Coach will have to work hard to keep Doogan,Ullstrom at UR for final year of eligibility.

If coach Roussell is staying here, then I’ll be surprised if Doogan or Ullstrom leave. 1) because of the connections and loyalty to the coach and program already 2) opportunity to play significant minutes with a team that’ll likely be picked 1st in A10 again and may even be getting AP votes for top 25 to start next year and 3) since COVID bonus year is done, i would think they would like to get their degree from UR, unless they’ve gotten it already. Just my opinion.

I think Mason has the better team, but St. Joe's beat them twice during the regular season.
My prediction for this one is Mason will win. Even though St. Joe’s won both times in the regular season, this Mason team is very good. First ever A10 title game, with chance to go to first ever NCAA tournament, in front of I’m sure a decent amount of GMU fans. Should be a great game to watch as a neutral observer.

Her pivot foot moves about 2-3 feet before the shot. But that is acceptable in today's basketball, along with carrying the ball like a football.
Looked like a gather step to me. I think would’ve been tough to call that a travel. We lost fair and square. It happens. Better to lose in the semi-finals than finals for me emotionally. Will be fun to watch the championship game today with no particular rooting interest.

After Maggie Doogan put us ahead with 3.8 seconds on the clock 0.3 seconds was added to give Joes 3,8 seconds to score. It may have made a difference.

Mason wins by 15. Nothing was stopping them this tournament. Reminds me of our run last year.

This conference continues to get better and better. Hoping SJU sneaks in the play-in round. A10 will continue to get multiple bids in the years to come. Here’s how I rank the A10 coaches:

Elite:
Richmond
George Mason

Very good:
Saint Joseph
Davidson

Solid:
Duquesne
Rhode Island

Then add programs like UMass, VCU, and Dayton who don’t have good coaches now but historically have had good teams in this conference, and you have to be excited about the conference’s future.

Edit: UMass is leaving after this season.

Sure it did, how did they get to throw ball in from their end and not under basket?

Isn't UMass leaving for the MAC?

Perfectly normal in women’s hoops. They use the NBA advance the ball rule to frontcourt after a timeout. Last minute of game & OT. Theory more offense & more exciting end of game situations.

Not sure when it was implemented. Did u see end of Georgetown game? We lost that game from the same rule.

I did not recall Joe's call a TO, but I guess they did.

It's been a rule for quite some time now. It's awful. Drags the final minute out forever because the coaches all save their time outs. And since women don't have to use a timeout in the first half like the men do, both teams generally have four left.

this rule was also how we were defeated by Georgetown before Christmas on the miraculous 3FG after inbounding in front of their bench...

it can either help you, or hurt you, depending on the circumstances...seems like the intent was to create exciting finishes in close games...but you're right about dragging things out!

Go Spiders!

Just confirmed what I already expected - no Spiders on the A-10 All-Tournament team. Three from Mason, two from St. Joe's.
