Whats the deal with Western Kentucky?

I think our staff does a great job at identifying talent and getting that talent at considering us

What our staff lacks is someone who can close the deal with our top identified prospects. That is what I would like to see added to our staff. They can take Rob Jones place.
Do you have some reason to believe that Rob isn't a capable coach or recruiter? Or is your decision strictly based on his resume?

So I know people say this stuff about Rob and Jamal, I just am trying to understand if there's actual fact to support the assertions or if it's speculative.

I emailed Coach Jones about a potential prospect in CT. Even though I have no idea if he will end up being a recruit for our level though I think he will. He responded immediately for more information and with some info around recruiting bylaws of the NCAA. I contacted the potential recruits h.s. Coach to let him know he would be in contact and that I had gave the Richmond coaches the prospects name. Jones had already been in contact and had obtained tape on the player within 10 mins and before I had time to let the coach know I had contacted Coach Jones. The little interaction I have had lends me to believe he is very good and invested in what he does. I wish everyone was as invested and thorough at their jobs as Coach Jones.

Fezz, you are so wrong! Do you think that Miami hired Brunt because he was the worse asst on our staff. You don't get hired as an asst in the ACC unless your rep is pretty strong. If you have a strong reputation at a UR level school, then the FBS programs hire you.

There's so much smoke around WKU right now and I've had one AAU coach tell me there is a legit fire.

Not only has Stansbury secured two top-75 players for the 2017 class (one being the No.9 player), he also secured two late transfers this summer. Pancake Thomas was the leading scorer at Hartford and opted to finish his career at WKU instead of your beloved VCU Rams ;)...But the one I heard there was some legit issues surrounding ($) was with Stansbury getting Buffalo transfer (and leading scorer from an NCAA tourney team), Lamonte Bearden. These dudes decided to leave their schools this July and August...for Western Kentucky...a team that finished 8-10 in CUSA last year. Makes sense, right?

And let's not forget Malik Newman, the Mississippi State transfer and former McDonald's All-American that came down to a final two of Western Kentucky...and Kansas. I mean, does that make any sense?

Also here's something to consider: How many Sweet 16s did Stansbury lead his teams to? Answer: 0 in his 14 years as head coach as Mississippi State.

I've been around too many coaches, players and AAU coaches at this point to think that Stansbury is building WKU the right way -- plus I've had more than one bball insider chat me up about it.

Another thing to consider: you have that type of recruiting success at WKU in CUSA, you are bound to get some calls from other programs looking for coaches. I've heard Stansbury has his sights on LSU, so his building WKU into a national contender may never happen, even though Hilltopper fans have to be pretty damn excited right now.

Sounds like "Blue Chip" to me.

Just check the staff at WKU from top to bottom and you will see whats going on.

foreign concept around here? smh.
I look at the young talent we have in Golden, Buckingham, Sherod, Godwin, Schneider, and Gilyard, and I wonder what you want or what you don't see.

The problem with this view is that not one of these guys has played a single minute of college basketball and half of them won't play a single minute until over a year from now! Anything we think of them is conjecture. What isn't conjecture is our performance the last few years.

So Spiderman, what I want and what I don't see is success as measured by wins-losses, conference performance and NCAA bids etc. Hypothetical recruiting wins dont really do it for me. And this board tends to get more than a bit over hyped about every class. One issue for me is whether or not our coaching actually develops the players to their potential. You are recruited on potential and 4 (or 5) years of coaching later you are a finished product. Guys like DT and TD's development (guys who did have other comparable options) makes we wonder. So again, what I want and don't see - - - success. Period.

I can't argue with that. we haven't been good enough. the post you quoted was in reference to a post that didn't see our coaches win recruiting battles and selling our program. to me, we're doing a pretty awesome job recruiting the last couple of years. I can't prove it yet. like you said, they haven't played. that'll take time. but I like what I've seen. lately.

Be interesting to see where UNCs Deborah Crowder ended up. Maybe she has a whole series of no class, classes at WKU?
