Welcome Isaiah Wilson! Highest rated UR recruit ever by 247 Sports

Here is a pretty positive article on Wilson and our program posted in A10Talk. Time will tell how well Wilson does at U of R. Quality rankings by various websites and competition from others schools increases the probability, but does not guarantee, his success with the program. All of us should be excited about this recruit.

Noah seems to be more interested in being friends with players, and showing that off in videos, than writing objectively about things, so take it with a grain of salt.

Really? I don't remember Noah writing articles like this about all the other guys he has interviewed.

The point is that he's showed his hand in every other interview. He comes across as mostly fanboy. Which is fine, he's in college. But realize what it is.

And you come across just the opposite. So realize what that is as well.

I'm not the one writing articles about players.

That's what sportswriters do. They write articles about guys in sports. Not a thing wrong with the article. Some of the things that bother you are just laughable.

you'd want him to critique a kid that just committed?

"congrats on committing to Richmond. I've never seen you play and you won't suit up here for 14 months, but I've watch a little video and quite frankly, I'm not sure what Georgetown, Depaul, SBU, URI, etc ... were thinking".

He played a game of horse with Burton during this last interview of a recruit and made a video out of it. There is nothing wrong with that but citing him as some objective media source as UR80 did above is kind of ridiculous. He is a UR student who is unabashedly pro-player, pro-Mooney, and pro-UR. Again, nothing wrong with that, but just understand he is not unbiased and really isn't even a journalist. He is more a PR person for our men's basketball team.

I give the kid credit, he is working his ass off and will be great in some athletic teams PR department in the future. If his desire is go into sports journalism, however, his work thus far if really far from meeting any journalistic standards.

Think being harsh here 97. Did 80sfan even cite him that way? Didn’t see it.

I liked article. When have we had that long article on a recruit? Few & far between. Noah is new media. Getting videos etc is cool. I don’t think we need to hold him to same standards, not that he’s doing anything wrong anyway .

He doesn’t pick us for top 4 a10 either so u could say that’s objective. He’s wrong btw. We will be top 4 and ncaa.

Think what he’s doing sets himself up quite well for sports journalism/media.

Yes, he did. The article that 80s fan cited was written by Noah, that got posted to A-10 talk. If you just read the article and didn't look at the written, you might have thought it was written by some unbiased source not affiliated with our program. When in fact, it was written by Noah, who while I agree is a go getter and doesn't need to be held to journalist standards, but also you need to understand that Noah is essentially serving more as a PR person from our MBB program, rather than an independent journalist covering out team.

There is a huge difference in my opinion and nothing wrong with being the former, but you just can't confuse what he is doing as being the latter either.

As I recall correctly, last pg from Pittsburgh we got was also pretty highly touted. Tarrant was really high on him. He ended up challenging for the Bob Cousy award. At Cleveland State unfortunately.
ha! I'm drawing a blank...who was it?...Gravelle Craig? Bebe Bocacheeka?(sic)...I thought I knew my Spiders basketball trivia...

Go Spiders!

Drawing a blank, I dont think so. You nailed it first one- Gravelle Craig. Tarrant was really high on him. I think he may have played a handful of games for us, but pretty sure left freshman year.
I believe he never came back from either Thanksgiving, or Christmas break...that happened occasionally in the Tarrant era...

Go Spiders!

That was actually a heck of a class though only two completed their time at Richmond:
Gravelle Craig - great career at Cleveland State, finalist for Cousy award
William Herndon: phyically imposing and athletically talented wide body - xferred to Umass where I believe he led country in FG% or was up there one year.
Curtis Blair - All time great, CAA POY, drafted second round Houston Rockets
Jim Shields - developed into a super big man, MVP of CAA tourney. long career playing in Europe.
Joe Jon Bryant - not sure if he was in this class? Looked like a star in the making, but washed out at some point.

a few Isaiah updates ...
as of last week, First Love Christian (PA) (3-0) was ranked #25 in the country and had just beaten #21 Westtown.
https://thegrind.press/2019/11/25/update-national-rankings-week-1/

here's a game recap and full game video for the hardcore.
https://prepscene.org/2019/11/25/on-the-scene-4/

"Westtown ... was now at the mercy of Coach Wilson’s junkyard dog of a point guard. Isaiah Wilson was in complete control. He finished with 10 of his 16 points coming in the final frame. The ‘break you down’ guard did not miss a single shot in the fourth quarter. He was sensational getting into the lane dishing 3 assists and scored it off the bounce. No score was bigger, than the top of the key trifecta that gave the Knights their first lead of the game 69-68."

both team feature multiple D1 players. Isaiah also had 11 assists in the game.

I haven't checked but Is Coach Wilson related to Isaiah?
Doesn't really mean anything and is a common enough name..just curious.

I hope we are still recruiting for next year because I feel we have a ship or two opening up, come Spring.

Mooney should be recruiting every undersized guard he can find every year. It's his primary legacy as a coach at this point – a line of really good small guards. It's a huge selling point to the next one in the line. The only great one we missed on was Chris Lykes, but he was one of the few who was SO good in high school that his offers were legit right away and we couldn't sneak him in under the radar.
But Auburn proved they can’t get shots off, 3 pointers or layup. One short point guard you can survive but short #2 guards?

Auburn’s athleticism and length combination is elite, and only a few teams in the country can match it.

If someone in the A10 (VCU/Dayton) can shut down our guards in a similar fashion, then I’ll change my tune. Until then, I’ll ride with Gilyard and Francis all day every day (as well as KA, K0, Ced, and shawndre).
