Never happen. We are late to the party.Kid's from New Haven.Plays for St Luke's.One of the top players in New England Prep league.Smart kid. Will not be surprised if Stanford,Cal,Duke,Yale enter into discussion.Nice gesture nevertheless.

How late to the party can we be? He's got a ton of offers but nothing P5, might as well take a swing if he's a good player.

that 1st one is without a doubt the best prospect video I've seen.
touches on everything ... overall feel for the game, incredible athleticism, very nice ball handling and passing, outstanding shooting ability, pretty dominant blocking shots and even stepping in and taking charges.
kid's awesome.
yeah it's a long shot, but you never know what a kid really wants. I like that we let the kid know we're a choice. but unless I'm missing something I think he'll get offered by the biggest programs in the country.

We should have been on this kid years ago.People were advised. We just offered. How silly. We have our recruiting heads in the sand.No wonder we are where we are.Dumb.

Well we rarely make offers to kids before their junior year, at least historically, but I see the staff getting more into that mode now. Sounds like it is/was too late for Walter but at least he has an offer and based on the current list he has, we are not vastly behind most of who is pursuing him. That seems like it may change of course.

When did we offer Chris Lykes PG from Gonzaga College High School in DC?Frosh summer,I believe. We obviously didn't recruit or know about Lykes but were likely pointed in that direction by Ced Lindsay. We would never have recruited Lykes otherwise. Not in our recruiting DNA.

what does it matter? kid isn't committing to us freshman year and it wouldn't mean anything if he did.

For what it is worth...apparently 6/30/2014...

So to sum up, we offered Lykes in his freshman year, which is the year Counter thinks Mooney should have offered Whyte, and because he didn't offer Whyte during his freshman year then Mooney is dumb and as proof of that just look at when we offered Lykes... which was freshman year.

Makes total sense.

Or is the insane rambling of a monday-morning quarterbacking, debbie downer nay-sayer (that's as clean as I can make it).

Who was "advised" about him, and by whom?

Your looking at him as to who"advised".No quotes needed.Kid plays in New England Prep league of which I am emanantly familiar since my prep school plays in the same league and let's just say that I'm more than a passive graduate. We don't know how to recruit up in that part of the world.Gonzalvez was our last recruit from the tundra and 2009-10 was his last year at UR.

Maybe Queally can help.New Cannan or for that matter,New Haven is not too far Greenwich.Give him a buzz.

Last year I think, I believe he was a sophomore? Could be wrong about that...

Mr.Whyte certainly is the danger...and his shot is 99.1% pure. This kid is waaaay out of our league.

32counter puts together scouting reports based off his expert analysis of youtube videos and emails them to Mooney. He saw Walter play in Jr. High and emailed Mooney ~4 years ago, Mooney decided not to offer and 32counter has been somewhat bitter ever since.

We are not getting either Lykes or Whyte so it doesn't really matter.Cute response nevertheless,2011.Very inventive.I like the creative, fictional writing skills-there's a ton of that on this Basketball board with most every post.

Walter's apparently at least interested enough to come for a visit, although not for a couple more months.

Didn't you hear? Everyone here is an expert. We simply choose not be million dollar coaches.

To me, this is the best type of 4 star talent for Richmond to target. He has elite athleticism for the A-10, cares about the degree and has less than a 2% chance of making the NBA (which he could easily do from any D1 school). If ever Richmond were to start landing 4 star guys multiple years in a row, this is the kind of kid those would be. So, you have to offer and really put forward some interest. If you're going to assume you can't get these kinds of players, you'd have to try and grab up the most talented undersized guys in the country possible, and grab some Euro and Aussie players to fill things out. It's hard to pull it off either way.

yea we made the cut! wait ... we're in his top 12?! :(
What I find interesting is 3 Ivy, 2 Patriot, and 5!?! A-10...that are left.

And one of the 30 offers that isn't, and shall go nameless.

Young Mr. Whyte is obviously going to major in diplomacy in college.Nice work by he and his parents.
An 8.33% chance of landing at UR ain't so bad.

Looks like we made the cut! OSC

There are a lot of schools with very strong academics on that list, along with a few outliers. I wonder if he is looking for a good combination of academics and basketball? If so I would think Davidson has a really good shot and if we have success this year I think we will have a good shot as well. Good to see we are still in the mix, I hope we can land this player.

Here is an interview with Walter; like his poise and confidence. Hope he has a nice visit this weekend and chooses to become a Spider. OSC

Quite an impressive young man. Mature, articulate, intelligent, self-assured. He has a bright future. We should offer Walter a scholarship whether or not he plays basketball.
I would be very proud to say that I am an alumnus of the same school as he.
Same goes for the JP.
