VCU vs Richmond history

If VCU likes to say they were founded in 1838, you know when UofR's campus was on Grace street where VCU currently stands, then maybe we can include their total records vs us in totality? That would heavily skew in our favor.

That being said, they have won 54 of the last 85 and a hell of a lot more than I care to remember ever since we left the CAA. Most important game in this series is the next one.

Hyland took 19 shots today. The other four starters took 16 combined. Let him shoot 20 times against us and we'll win. It's that easy. He thinks he's the whole team.

Hyland took all of the shots because everyone else on the team was scared and couldn't create their own shots. Cox has Rhoades's number.

URI is a bad match-up for Broad Street. They both play undisciplined street ball and URI has a few more athletes and are not intimidated by the pressure. After beating the first wave of guard pressure they go to the rim.

vcu is a bad matchup for UR though is the problem. They have a lot of depth and the Spiders have very little right now. vcu can throw a lot of different dudes at Golden for example and just wear him out. They are much improved from last year and I just don’t see UR beating them this week or honestly either time this season.

They're "deep" because they only have two really good players. The rest are pretty much interchangeably average. They barely beat Mason. They got fat on a bunch of bad teams. I expect it to be a good game because we don't kill teams often and it's a rivalry game. But the notion that they are a bad matchup for us this year or that they are better than us is just wrong.

So much for optimism.VT?.....................there is no reason we can not beat them ... split last year with each team winning at home....................few fans in stands minimizes home court advantage and "rivalry game" aspect muddies the waters. ... but to date this season our schedule has been tougher and we have comparable won-lost results............

Biggest fear is bones being able to shoot over our guards.

Yeah if we have goose back we should be fine. I think it’s usually the other way around, we are always a tough matchup for VCU because our guards aren’t bothered by the rah rah crap and don’t turn it over.

On the flip side, VCU has pretty much dominated us the past 10 years because they’ve had better teams overall. They are especially a bad matchup for us when they have a dominant big man/men who can kill us on the glass and get our guys in foul trouble (the Colts TE, Reddick, MSS). They don’t have that guy this year. I don’t think Golden will be bothered by Rhoades trying “a lot of different dudes”. He’s better than whoever they have, and as long as Mooney manages his minutes I expect Grant to dominate.

Williams bothers me more than Hyland I think. Unless Hyland makes like eight threes, he alone won't be the difference in the game. And I'll let him make eight if it takes him 20 shots to get there and we stay even on the boards.

I put Francis on hyland. We need Burton rebounding. Also, who from vcu can guard GG in the low post? He is bigger and stronger than anyone vcu has. Give him the ball!

Next question, who is GG going to guard? If Rhoades is worth his cash, he should take it to him every time down the floor. He will either foul or not play any defense.

And thoughts about when “The goose will be on the wing”?

I think you've got the wrong Hokie.

You also predicted Richmond would go 12-15 this year so you definitely know what you are talking about.

Unlike in most of our recent rivalry games, we are the hunted this time. We are better and more experienced than VCU really across the board, pick a position.

This is a rivalry game, so it won't be easy, but I like our odds.

You guys are killing me with these beat VCU predictions. I’m gonna go huff some paint thinner for a bit...

yup! Francis was great defensively on Kolek. the little he got was after switches. (we switched ball screens very effectively btw).

Perhaps, but not by much, plus they are 10, 11 deep and do not start their best players. Instead Rhoades plays his loyalty card and starts Douglas and Stockard as opposed to Ward and Watkins.

Next two - VCU and @ Bona - are massive must win games for us.

What is Mooney record vs. VCU? There are so many pros why we should win but that 1 con stands out the most.

Looking at the schedule from the beginning of the season, I kind of figured that if we go 4-4 against SBU, VCU, SLU, Dayton and Rhody, and then win our other games (9-1 at worst), we'll be in good shape.

I still think that holds true.
