VCU In Game (Late)

Not the beginning. This has been the story for awhile now. Decent, good at times, but lacking something that gets us over the hump. It took a lot of little stuff tonight to lose when we generally played well but we found 'em all

I don't want to ever hear again, about how selective UR Is, fact is that VCU players were more intelligent than UR players. We made numerous mental errors, and I don't dare venture the score at the Siegel Center. And, no, I still don't want Trey at the foul line to end a game, so why would you play to allow that?

No margin for error the rest of this season, 20 win season going to be very tough to achieve now.

What a game! Finally got over the RC hump! I love Coach Wade. It was great to win with you guys shooting better than usual from the line and with your team healthy. Shows our mental toughness. Good luck to you guys the rest of the way. See y'all again soon.

VDU made many mental errors also, however we were out coached the last 3 minutes of Reg and OT. Wade telling them to foul Davis over and over again.

Played hard at times but not very smart. They drive the lane at will, like all teams do against us, and we, of course dont change to a tight zone to cut it off. Mooney's stubborness is keeping us from playing at our best with the talent we have. But then again nothing new there. This was a very beatable vdu team and we wilted down the stretch. No more talk, please, about ncaa or nit. We'll win some games sure but we'll end up near the 500 mark plus or minus.

The dagger was instead of playing for the last shot of first half, SDJ attempted a 3 point shot, early in the clock, and VCU made the 3 point shot to close half.

Game should have never gotten to OT. Our foul shooting has been a liability all season, and today it might have been a deal breaker even though there are several other things to point at. Looks like VCU's strategy was to take it the basket the entire half, and they scored at will - No inside defense. I believe we got our first offensive rebound at 2 minutes into the second half, but rebounds don't matter so we're told. This game was a blown opportunity...truly.

TJ made many Mistakes and can't shoot a free throw when it matters to save his ass. 84 points U.S. enough to beat anybody, we don't play defense!!!!!!!! That Olé defense crap under the basket is getting old.

Entertaining game throughout, but in the end the Spiders turned a W into a loss during winning time (last 4 minutes and OT). No need to list the details, everyone else is nailing it. Happened very much like it normally does. Makes me sad and frustrated to see the same issues time and time again!

Still very disappointed in the season ticket holders for being cheap S--ts and giving or selling their tickets to VDU scum. That yellow crap was all around me. Nothing worse than giving thousands of dollars to the school and having to sit next to a RPI fan screaming in your ears in the seats behind and beside you 3 rows up from center court in your home arena.

Might just be a coincidence since we only have two prior starts by MW to judge, but he certainly lit it up when he was starting as opposed to today coming off the bench. I guess we got our answer pretty quickly upon DT's return whether MW would be rewarded with a start.

With you Homer, another big loss for Mooney

Starting DT over MW was just Mooney's first stupid call of the day, but he continued.

Having watched this series since its beginning in the mid-'70s, it's the same refrain over and over...with few exceptions. VCU kids have higher basketball IQs, and are physically stronger and mentally tougher. Ironically, our best stretch versus VCU was at the very beginning, when Kevin Eastman, Jeff Butler and Co. carried us to victory in the first 5 games of the series. Since then, we win 1, they win 2, we win 1, etc., etc. And, like many others on this forum, I'm getting really tired of Mooney's rigid adherence to his formula (shoot 3's, play match up zone, don't worry about rebounds, keep TO's to a minimum), no matter the personnel he has, no matter the game situation, no matter the competition. He's the most underwhelming $1.2 million man I've ever seen.

He favors seniors on scholarship who have played more minutes under him. It's all about trust, imo.

I like Wade's fire. I agree with the earlier post that he looks somewhat evil when he's angry haha, but I love his passion. I thought SS should've taken the opportunity to get T'd up a few times while here, probably would've helped at times. We started playing better after Wade got that warning.

The fact that we stayed in the game only shooting 16% from 3, is a good sign. I thought they played hard, Shawdre did his best KA impersonation. That being said we're 2 and 3 in the conference VCU is 5 and 0. We shoot 61% from the FT line and the last four were missed badly by a senior and a junior. My biggest question is we're down 1 score with 15 seconds and the ball and Mooney doesn't call a time out. Terry ends up throwing up a panic shot. Plus the constant, attract a large crowd and we blow it, same old same old.

And wade calmed down after that for the most part, then he ran on the court about the 6 men on the court.

Wade is a jerk, the perfect coach for your fan base. Thank God I don't have to smell VCU fans any more this year.

He doesn't play a match up zone, although it looked like it a couple of times today (very badly played I might add) He plays a switching man to man. The problem is a good team will use that to get match ups we can't defend. Their guards could drive on our forwards/center.. In a Match up zone the big men (certainly the Center) will tend to stay in the back

16% from three wow, I would wager no one would have guessed that. Most upsetting thing was we had this game multiple times and couldn't put it away.

As soon as we got the T for 6 men on the floor, I knew that was the kiss of death.

Yes, you are correct. Mooney established that trend early on, and like with many other trends, will never change. Many of us hoped that he would ride the coattail of someone who has been a MAJOR CONTRIBUTOR when given a shot at starting & someone who more than helped us win the previous 2 games. I know...wishful thinking.
