UR women's team on pause

Sheesh...UR really should have picked a better headline. It's a link out to a Buffalo News feature on Ryan as the Spiders head to Bona.

In hope it isn’t the only UR basketball win vs VCU this year.
*sad trombone* (unless we get the Rams in the A-10 tourney)

Anyway, just wanted to acknowledge the nice job the women's team is doing amid COVID pause challenges of their own. They had a couple of tough losses to Dayton and SLU coming out of their last pause, but they rebounded yesterday and today with back-to-back wins over St. Joe's and La Salle to close out the home schedule.

Challenging road trip to URI and UMass next weekend, but they're sitting at 9–4 and fighting for a top-4 seed. Looks like their guaranteed to have their best A-10 record since at least 2011–12. If they win at least one of their final two, they'll have a better A-10 win percentage than they ever managed under Shafer. (He had a trio of 9–5 seasons.)

Like class he brought in and he just needs another strong class and he is in good shape for
the future.

Kind of an interesting development for this final weekend. The Spiders were supposed to play at URI tomorrow and at UMass on Sunday, while VCU was supposed to do the reverse. But they've created a bit of a pod and all four games will be played in URI's gym. Helps minimize travel-associated risks by keeping everybody in the same spot all weekend.

Interesting. Doesn't that just replace two one-way bus trips with a round-trip, and add a hotel stay for an additional team?

UMass has been doing some strange sh*t with COVID. They had banned the number of deliveries students could receive a few weeks ago, (cause COVID I guess comes on packages now), had preemptive shutdowns of all athletics in anticipation of rising numbers. So, I would imagine that is UMass doing primarily and every else is just doing an eyeroll to go along.

It is indeed a UMass-wide thing. No home competitions in any sports until mid-March.

Tough finish for the ladies...falling to both URI and UMass this weekend. They led both games at the half, but couldn't seal the deal. Spiders get the 6-seed in the A-10 tourney.

disappointing results, but they are making progress. I do think they are headed in the right direction

Fan 1 agree with direction but there are two areas they need great improvement on.

1. Stronger pair of guards who can penetrate the lane and are much better skilled in ball handling
2. The highly acclaimed center from Trinity HS I thought would be a load in lane for teams to cover,
but she lacks in footwork and scoring. Being her second year I am surprised she has shown little to
no improvement

Roussel’s recruits have looked a lot stronger than Shafers last recruiting classes

Addie had an absolutely incredible year, and I know Kate had a really strong ending

Women are headed to OT vs SLU after a hell of a comeback to close out the game. 10-0 run to get back into it. Playing with a lot of fire

Tough loss…great comeback though. They had a shot to win at at the end of OT, but it didn’t fall.

Townsend is a real spark plug out there.

They took something right out of Coach Tarrants playbook with a 3-2 trapping zone that St Louis
had no clue for. Yes Townsend was fastest player on court and she and Parsons created a lot of
steals. By the way Roussell did something Mooney won’t do and that is change his lineup and change his
defense in the middle of game.
