UR @ STFU 5pm Thursday - few thoughts

If you are looking for instant gratification, then you are correct using wins and losses as a measuring stick. However the season is a lot more than a one game win over a team that should have been a relatively easy win for us. Over the course of the season, the criteria Iisted will determine if we are successful. They will be self fulfilling or not and translate into a successful season or not.
Yes, today I wanted instant gratification. I wanted us to win. We did. Today mattered today.

You can correct mistakes we made today. You can play better in the future. Etc., etc.

The one thing you cannot do, is change today's outcome. We won. successful day.

I assumed the punt play was similar to a pass play when the ball is tipped and no pass interference is called. When he bobbled the snap I thought he was fair game. Not sure of the rules on tackling a punter though.

He was much more calculated as a coach. Huesman’s practices are more of a disorganzed cluster of everyone screaming at each other. Rocco used motivational strategies that actually motivated guys also.

So easy to forget losses like Gardner Webb...... Rocco decided not necessary to do a walk Through at G/W...night before game.....team not ready after nearly upsetting NC State!

I personally like Huesman but he has taken responsibility before and it's not getting better. The defense has improved since game 1 last year but the special teams and offense have not. And the special teams, kickoffs and punting are terrible. The rugby punt causes way more problems than it solves.

I am really hoping he can turn it around. And quickly.

Brissett had about 500 yards of kickoff returns tonight, so...

Agree our kickoff returns have been great so far this season. Our ST kickoff coverage has definitely improved. Don't see teams starting every time at 40+ yard line like last few years. And Trau has been getting kicks deeper last 2 games. True that rugby punting every time isn't working, but yardage probably not that much different overall from this point last season. Definitely got to improve in lots of areas like O and ST front lines, but do see improvements that should be touted.

Move site ok....no prep time unacceptable, they use their refs we don't go. Who negotiated this?
C'mon guys. Officiating is not a full time job for these crews. So getiing a CAA crew would have required them all to take off work at the last minute, and travel. Moving the game to StFU made an NEC crew a foregone conclusion.

On top of that, it was probably a backup NEC crew. Given the terrible officiating that wouldn't surprise me.

Outside the tackle box perhaps?

Huesman took a national championship caliber team and didn't even sniff the playoffs. The team has been disorganized since he got here. Anyone who expects more from this team, well I want some of what you're smoking to kill the pain.
Rocco took a NC caliber team, interviewed for and accepted a job with a conference rival while we were still playing, checked out and got boatraced by EWU.

Kudos to JBevels. 19 yd catch in final seconds to set up 6 yd. game winner to Wilkins. Apparently, one of very few ? snaps he played.

You are so delusional that you you just posted “good times are coming” after almost losing to a 45 scholarship team. Aren’t we better than this? We were when Rocco was our coach.
It doesn't matter Rocco is gone, although I blame the school Rocco did quit. We'll have to wait and see what happens with Huesman.

Reading this back all the way through was pretty entertaining. Seeing the ups and downs with us fans probably can't even compare to what the guys on the sidelines are feeling. This game was almost a carbon copy of the Hampton game in 2015 and that season turned out alright. I've still got faith in #7. That last drive to score showed this team could finish and if I remember right that was something neither the team or Lauletta did last year in all the one score games.

Also, nice to see VT got a new handle and is posing as a player. He's always been such a fun guy.

LOL, I don't think it's VT.
Kyle really should be studying up on Dallas, though, instead of posting on SpiderNation.

Used to enjoy Keystone Cops and with the announcers, the refs, and the final outcome being a "W" have not seen a more entertaining game in years. At first the announcers irritated me and then I begin thinking of them as 10 year olds getting the chance to announce a game and even the "football" mindless call constantly became entertaining. The refs highlight was march off the offsetting penalties in both directions and ending up at the same place although the inordinate amount of time to make any kind of decision also ranked up there. Naturally if we had lost the entertainment experience would have been a nightmare instead.

What is the actual rule with rugby-style kickers. Can you tackle them? If so, why don't more teams do that?

It is amazing how late the game ended, considering the first half was over in less than an hour.

Rule 9-1-4-a: When it is obvious that a scrimmage kick will be made, no opponent shall run into or rough the kicker or the holder of a place kick.

Rule 9-1-4-a-5-b: The kicker’s protection under this rule ends when he carries the ball outside the tackle box before kicking.

The tackle box is defined by Rule 2-34 as "the rectangular area enclosed by the neutral zone, the two lines parallel to the sidelines five yards from the snapper, and Team A’s end line." If he stays behind the line of scrimmage and within five yards on either side of the snapper, the punter is inside the tackle box; if he moves up into the neutral zone, or if he moves more than five yards in the direction of the sideline, he’s a ballcarrier.

Anybody seen enough film to discern if we got screwed?
