UR @ STFU 5pm Thursday - few thoughts

Our guys were resilient despite all odds stacked against them. KJ, Wilkins, and Brissett took matters into their own hands.

D played well most of the game. Unfortunately, bad punt plays put their backs to the wall couple times when they gave up points. Give credit to O for pulling this one out, even though OC needs to figure out how to call a game that keeps opposing D on their heels. And AD Hardt better be very grateful team won after he got punked this week and put OUR team at risk going to PA. Sun shining a lot today and weather still just fine tonight in RVA.

Hey guys. Former player here. Played last year. Figured I’d post now that things look really bad (by the way, guys on the team do follow the boards). Coach huesman is the worst coach I’ve had ever since I started playing football.
Oh well, he's what we have and he's got a winning HC record. Could be he's like a lot of head coaches more of a coaching staff manager than an actual coach...... There have been a lot of very successful head coaches who managed and relied on the assistants to produce results.

What did you think of Rocco?

JMU currently has a 45-0 lead over RMU - in the first half. We need to watch game film from tonight's game, then get serious about the rest of our schedule. We WILL play better - but with Stony Brook, JMU, then Delaware, we need to get serious now. Players AND coaches.

He was much more calculated as a coach. Huesman’s practices are more of a disorganzed cluster of everyone screaming at each other. Rocco used motivational strategies that actually motivated guys also.

You worry about future games when you play them. Today's opponent was St. Francis. We won. Successful day.
Success is judged a lot more by than just a win or a loss. Preparedness, execution, penalties, play calling, etc. all tell a story unto themselves. Those too are measures of success.

Correct. Posted towards the end of the year. Rocco was the man. Huesman is not worthy of coaching the CAA.
Rocco's departure made me reduce my contributions (even admitting some small portion of that mess was on Rocco's behavior). The mess probably got Gill fired. However there is no going back now. Huesman still got to prove himself.......... flat out laying the blame on the coaches is a good sign.

I would like to hear whoever negotiated this STFU deal to tell me what happened and what they think about it now. I realize hindsight is 20/20 but why not play Friday or Sat up there we pick the refs, etc.

Were you part of the team when Rocco employed his “motivational strategies” in a 12-10 loss to Gardner Webb or URI?

Like that game at Gardner Webb. We were really motivated. Every coach and team has "that" game. Heusman won his, Rocco didn't. Let's see, one day of practice, 6 1/2 hour bus ride, 3 different hotels, a janitors closet for a locker room, short 4 linebackers and we won with a second to spare. Good times are coming. We've lost "that" game many times in my lifetime.

No, in sports what matters is, did you win or did you lose. We could be prepared, execute, have no penalties, etc., and lose, and it would not be a success.

I personally like Huesman but he has taken responsibility before and it's not getting better. The defense has improved since game 1 last year but the special teams and offense have not. Huesman routinely admits to not paying much attention to the offense. Either he needs to or he needs a new OC. The play calling has been atrocious for 14 games now. And the special teams, kickoffs and punting are terrible. The rugby punt causes way more problems than it solves.

I am really hoping he can turn it around. And quickly.

You are so delusional that you you just posted “good times are coming” after almost losing to a 45 scholarship team. Aren’t we better than this? We were when Rocco was our coach.

Hope this game triggers something in this team that they have to play better.

Sounds like a giant cluster of a week. STFU had us by the stones and we gave in to them. Multiple hotels, 8 minute walk to the locker room, bus getting lost, refs.

Boy I lost 2 years of my life watching that game. We played one of the worst games I’ve seen in awhile and were pretty much punked by STFU for this entire fiasco. Offense looked stagnant most of the game. But man give the team some credit to make huge plays down the stretch and score with 1 second left. Huesman needs to reevaluate his play calling and decision making. But hey, it’s over. We won and are 2-1. We have 9 days to prepare for Stony Brook and we’re going to need every minute of it.
Understand. My first post game post. Had to change into clean undies and trousers;)

Look, we didn’t play well. But the situation was weird and didn’t favor us. We found a way to win and that is all that matters. O line has to get better and we need to use ALL of the wide receivers. Use the short passing game to spread the field and help establish the running game.

Sorry, 2017, but Rocco is irrelevant and posts about him are waste of time. He made the decision to leave (while burning bridges and before that EW playoff game). We support team and coaches we have right now. Proud of them for pulling out this win in the face of so many adversities. Plenty still to improve upon and know they'll work hard to be ready for SB. Go Spiders!

Huesman took a national championship caliber team and didn't even sniff the playoffs. The team has been disorganized since he got here. Anyone who expects more from this team, well I want some of what you're smoking to kill the pain.

What has been disorganized Rick? Just wondering.

If you are looking for instant gratification, then you are correct using wins and losses as a measuring stick. However the season is a lot more than a one game win over a team that should have been a relatively easy win for us. Over the course of the season, the criteria Iisted will determine if we are successful. They will be self fulfilling or not and translate into a successful season or not.

We had a National Championship QB and the offense was good but the defense and special teams weren't and would not have been under the previous coach. Damn Rick, did you see the touchbacks tonight?

Well, practices for one, at least the 6 or 8 I've seen. Players standing around, nothing crisp like I'm use to seeing from prior coaches. Now I'm no expert by a long shot, but as a fan sitting in my seat, the offense looks uncertain way too often, especially with play calling.

Yes, I actually penned a positive post about it earlier! Maybe Griff's hip is all mended.

I agree with the play calling statement.

Celebrate the win! Margin of victory is immaterial.Showed some moxey when we absolutely had to. We will grow from that.

Note to Admin: Among your primary tasks is to put our programs in the best possible position to win. Perhaps it was the only deal available, but IMO this deal was unfair to the coaches and the players. Please tighten up the contract language on future deals.
