A few thoughts about the moving of the game:

1- Put yourself in the shoes of the STFU administrators. Games all over the commonwealth have already been cancelled. Suppose the storm is bad here and the team is stuck. How much of a moron do you look like as a STFU administrator? You probably end up getting fired.
2- STFU just doesn't have the same urgency to get this game in as we do. Richmond needs the game on our march toward 7 or more wins. STFU needs to win their conference to get into the playoffs. There is no other way to get into the playoffs. Why bother with the trip down here with #1 above in mind? Neither #1 nor #2 are good things but both of them are realities.
3- The playing of the game up there stinks but it does give us 2 extra days to prepare for the Stony Brook game. In my opinion, Stony Brook is a pivotal game for how this season is going to turn out.
4- I would hope that our supporters aren't going to bang the ticket office and other folks in the athletic department about ticket refunds for this weekend. If you support the program, you support the program. I consider it a $100 donation to Richmond football and will move on to the next thing. No point in further hurting Richmond football when Richmond football didn't want any of this to happen.

Looking forward to a 12 pack and some Bob Black on the radio tomorrow night and some good time on the message board. And yea, let's pound these guys 80-0.

Couple more thoughts...

-We cancelled Parent's Weekend. What does it say to Saint Francis when it's too risky for parents to come but safe enough for their football team to come?
-Virginia is under a State of Emergency. Is it not prudent to have our first responders focused on other things than football while we are under a state of emergency?

i guess they know best , but with the changing forecast a little surprised , it it turns out to be not that bad , then they deserve , to have people storm the ticket office , as of yesterday they were still selling tickets for a home game lol.

Mo, most contracts typically have state of emergency type clauses in them. I believe that is why ECU decided to make their own decision. For the others who can't understand why its being played at thursday at 5pm, this isn't as simple as hoping on a bus and playing a game.

logistics, hotels, meals, etc. are all factored in.

Kudos to our staff for working hard to make this happen. This game could have easily been cancelled, but we found a way to make it happen.

With respect to the logistics, I agree a lot with what Mo said. We needed this game more than they do and STFU simply doesn't have as much money to make changes in travel plans on the fly as we do.

At the end of the day, we have a game to go play tomorrow. Let's go win it so we can carry positive momentum against Stoney Brook.

Good points, Mo. All of those thoughts crossed my mind as I typed up my knee jerk reaction to not seeing Spider football this weekend (on the other thread). :D No, I'm not going to ask for my money back. Ha

But I still want us to pound them into the ground tomorrow night.

yes they did a great job putting a team on the schedule who cant meet there commitment , and screwing there fans of a home game , kudos

Checked forecast: The weather forecast in B.F.E., Pa is the same as RVA from now until midnight tmrw night -- only difference is 5-10mph winds there, 15-20mph winds here.

Shouldn't have trouble getting back. In addition to radio there will be free video link

Playing the game there is fine... getting a days notice is not. They'll need to explain what's wrong with Friday or Sat. Plus what about us getting back from a Thur night game? Do we have to fly into Pittsburgh then 2 hr bus to Loretto?

I do want us to play the game, but I don't think STFU is meeting us half way.

I'm not going to ask for my money back, but for people that want it STFU should pay them,.............................................. somewhat tongue in cheek.

Go Spiders, we need the win, especially considering the trying circumstances.

Spiders' football game moved to Thursday at Saint Francis, located in central Pennsylvania
JOHN O'CONNOR·2 hours ago

Hurricane Florence's potential impact on the Richmond area caused the University of Richmond to switch venues and days for its football game against Saint Francis. The Spiders will play at Saint Francis Thursday at 5 p.m.

The game was originally scheduled to be played at UR's Robins Stadium Saturday at 2 p.m.

Saint Francis is located in Loretto, Pa., in central Pennsylvania, a 284-mile drive from Richmond. The home facility of the Red Flash is 3,450-seat DeGol Field. The game will be video streamed by Saint Francis in the NEC Front Row for free with links available on the Spiders' schedule page.

The Spiders and the Red Flash have never met. This is Richmond's final game this year outside of CAA competition. UR opens league play at Stony Brook Sept. 22.

In the Northeast Conference preseason poll, Saint Francis was picked fourth. The Red Flash (1-1) won 13-7 at Liberty last season. This season, Saint Francis lost 21-19 at Lehigh, which was picked second in the Patriot League preseason poll, and beat Delaware State 45-14.Saint Francis played at James Madison in 2012, 2013 and 2014, losing 55-7, 24-20 and 38-22.

The Spiders (1-1) come off last Saturday's 52-7 win over visiting Fordham. UR gained 585 yards, the ninth-most in school history.

John, why did it have to be Thur, not Fri or Sat? and are we going to take a 5 hour bus ride to get there?

Use the $75,000-$100,000 we were gonna pay them in order to charter a 737/757 from/to RIC to/from Altoona,Pa airport.Leave RIC at noon.

Equipment truck can leave tomorrow morning. We don’t even need hotel rooms up there.Maybe a place with multiple meeting rooms upon arrival.

All legitimate points Moliva. Do you think JMU just got going on this a lot faster than we did or just better at negotiating? Easy one to wonder about when the two teams are same conference, basically same travel situations.

I expect we're busing from Rich & back, charter would surprise me but interesting question I don't know

This game was little bit of a trap game anyway. St. Francis is pretty decent and now just got lot harder with these circumstances.

GK, certainly traveling makes it tougher but the 'trap' aspect might now be gone as I expect our team isn't happy about this compromise and now has extra motivation to pound them.

My guess is the reason this is happening Thursday and it's being done somewhere further North is because things can change quickly and the path could shift and turn back toward VA.

In terms of 'money back' for tickets, I agree with the 'donation' aspect, so I will not ask. But I think the school should have some kind of accommodation for this and it should have been addressed in their communication (unless I missed something).

It's possible. The other thought I had is perhaps JMU pays a higher guarantee than we do at this point and the contract is written in a way that Robert Morris leaves more on the table if they don't come down than STFU? I mean JMU's budget is 50% larger than ours at this point, so the higher guarantee is very conceivable.

directed at me?

Yes. Tell me more about how an athletic administrator is supposed to gauge the commitment level of an opposing school to drive their team into a tropical storm on a cancelled parents weekend when no other games are going on in the state. Years in advance.

With the number of people evacuating my guess is 95 N and maybe 81 N are going to be a mess. I'd leave asap.

Sounds like a smart, safe decision to me.

Aren't classes canceled on Friday? So no hurry to get back if the weather is dicey on Thursday night/Friday.

Answers in line below.

I addressed what might be different with JMU in a post above.

and why were they still selling tickets as a home game yesterday?

The game wasn't cancelled yet.

I'm not trying to fight you. I'm just encouraging you to grow a brain. See you at home and on the road. Go Spiders.

Yes. Addressed this is the first post above. Differing urgency to make this game happen. That is shown in the fact that we are going there. If not for our urgency, the game would not be happening.

my only point was if we can make the trip they could have , use the same roads , safest thing would be to cancel . staying overnight i would guess would require hotels , couple that with the refunds they will have to give back on tickets , its an expensive game

Are we committed to going to the playoffs or not? If we are sitting at 6-4 on the Sunday after Thanksgiving and don't hear our name called for the bracket, how would we feel?

agree that was the point i was making about playing fbs teams , with other teams getting better in the caa , can we afford to give up one game , if the playoffs are the goal , if they are we better find a way to beat stony brook and elon no more easy wins in the caa anymore , i assume thats why fordham and sfu are on the schedule.

UVA paid us $400k. Our football budget is about $6.5MM. So UVA guarantee is more than 6% of our budget.

Then if we don't play UVA and schedule another cupcake that we beat... everybody talks about our soft schedule when evaluating at large teams for the bracket.

You tell me.

Tweet I got says in the second paragraph: "More details for fans holding tickets to Saturday's home game against Saint Francis will be made available once further information is obtainable. As soon as those details are finalized, it will be communicated with all impacted parties."

and if we miss the playoffs by one game how many folks will fill this site with post demanding the coach be fired , cant count on beating maine , stony brook or elon . anymore , and madison just keeps getting better, makes for too many must games, you tell me lol

Ok how about this, rushed packing and transportation, limited preparation time, instant unexpected away game, etc. and we lose in part because of it. I still think another day or two before playing in PA would have been less unsettling.

I know the AD is doing the best they can, just think STFU made it more difficult for us than needed. I hope we stomp them.
