Transfer Season is here

This year, a player do not have sit out.
Not sure how many times we need to explain this...as his second transfer (and it isn't a grad transfer), he needs to sit. There is a one-time transfer exception (it used to apply only to minor sports, but as of last year is now valid for all sports), but he's already used his in transferring from VT to GW last year. So now he needs to sit.

Ok

Spiderman, who’s our best target in the portal right now? Who you calling that we get?
no real idea but I think Quinn makes a lot of sense. he said UR and Rutgers are standing out. I guess Rutgers is telling him they'll play him and Cliff together, but that seems an odd combo. if I was Quinn I'd be leary of that offer. I could see him just being Cliff's backup.

we know he could definitely play with Grace here just like Grant has been.

that's why I like Burton at the 4. and Burton at the 4 opens the door for more time to Crabtree and Dji. and maybe Marcus and or Dread.
if we add a good 5 like Quinn, I think Grace could play in both spots like this year.
if we add a good 4 Grace might be strictly a 5.
either way, we need to add a good big.
Thought we didn't do numbers anymore.

Doubt we have a chance but efton Reid is a 7 footer for LSU who went to steward locally. I would imagine he might be on the way out with his coach gone. He will have way better options than UR though. Maybe my other team has a chance with him.
We’ve already lost one Steward player last week that we should have aggressively pursued. I doubt we get ER if he transfers. He’ll have his choice of P5 schools.

His parents would have to take a serious cut in pay.

Basmile can probably get a waiver if he transferred to UR or VCU, he just needs to find a sick relative in the RVA area and say he is coming home because of that.

some don't. I do. and if you look at pretty much every lineup ... everyone does even if they refuse to admit it.
I'm with sman on this one LOL, I wrongly accused him of being a positionless basketball guy. I do think some guys are interchangeable - but in general the "5" in our system handles the ball in the high post, the 4 does not as much. I think numbered positions are important for matching up on D as well.

Sman, if we think the Layayette center can replicate those numbers in the A10, and can pass and direct similar to Grant - I am coming around with the notion that MFG can play some good minutes at the 4 for us. Especially if we don't think we can get an athletic, productive 4 and we can get this guy.

I think being versatile is a big plus and lets you move around and stay on the court. Let's say Goose comes back and wins starting 2 guard spot next season. And Burton back at 3. And Nelson starts at 1. I think a guy like Dji can play starters minutes in that situation because he is so versatile. Sometimes Burton moves over to 4, and Dji is 3. We have seen he can handle and pass, freshman PG is not going to play Gilly minutes. And he can also slide in to 2 when Goose is out. Not saying he cannot win the 2g spot, or Goose will not be back - but just saying a guy like Dji has a lot of ability to slide between positions b/c of versatility.

Quinn seems incredibly similar to Golden. both very skilled and with high motors ... without plus athleticism.
I don't think Quinn would score 2,000 points here or anything, but I think it would be a smooth transition.

Oh, totally agree. That wasn't directed at you Sman, rather was intended to rib another poster who argued position less basketball voraciously here. He appears to have gone MIA a few weeks back.

Bamisile is a talent, but yes my understanding is the same as Zeeter - you get to transfer without sitting out one time, then after that have to sit out a year.

Agree with Trap, could use a knock down shooter, and a big. For the big, I prefer a "4" man, with Grace coming back as starting 5. Still think Walz is a good prospect, but not a guy that will allow us to finish near top of A10. I think Grace at the 5 provides that opportunity. Would rather keep Burton at the wing if at all possible.
I believe CM will give MFG every minute as a stretch 4 as long as he's productive. When he comes out we can play two forwards and two guards which might be out of CMs comfort zone but I believe this will play out. And of course MFG can play at the five when Quinn is on bench. I mentioned it earlier, but we have to get interior scoring when Quinn is out so I see a little bit of a flip flop on offense on a more regular basis where a guard or forward (i. e. Burton, Dji??) post up similar to what Nick did when he had knees.

you may be right and he may tear it up. I hope he does. I just don't know why that would be expected. the public opinion pendulum has swung so far on him in the past year, from a guy who many thought shouldn't have a scholarship to a guy some think we can't afford to take off the floor.

should be good competition for playing time at a bunch of spots for the first time in a while.

I hear ya, and I didn't say I was a fan of that strategy. I wanted a 4 who would keep Grace on the bench more, but we don't have anyonle else I'd consider a power forward type player so he's gonna play and probably more than I want.

I was very impressed with the game video of Bigelow. I can't imagine he's just a guy to spell Burton at the 3 for 5 mpg. I think they'll play side by side a lot.

Agreed, I’m expecting pretty heavy minutes if not starter minutes for bigelow.

I’m still waiting for my plan of everyone gets 15 minutes, and someone earns the extra 5…

That's what I was trying to say. Bigelow is a substitute for Grace at the 4. It would be Quinn, Grace, Burton (5,4,3) or Quinn, Bigelow, Burton (5,3,3). Bigelow isnt a power forward or a stretch forward.
I wanted a power forward ala Bryce Golden. Although we should be able to grab a good one off the portal next year.

Remember, he spent his early years as a combo guard. I can’t wait 22-23 to get here!!

Holmes & Osun to Iowa ST, Lofton to FL, Welch to Bama
Were the Bonnies starters that good?

Were they each individually good enough to get playing time on competitive P5 teams? Maybe. They had absolutely no bench though. Maybe a team of players who are ‘that good’ with no bench is just the 4th best team in a down-year A10?

to give a comparison here, after the '20 season Kentucky fans were hot for Golden. If you went down UR's roster Tyler, Jacob and Blake also could easily have transferred to high major programs. Was the '20 UR team that good that 4 guys could have transferred and started on high majors? Maybe not - it was a strong team but by no means elite - but those guys could have all gone and done it.
