This stinks!

We signed 15 freshmen last year and we have 25 listed on the current roster. I assume that 10 of them are walk-ons. W&M signed 13 freshmen last year and have 25 listed on their current roster. I assume that 12 of them are walk-ons. Not that big a difference if my assumptions are correct.
I may be wrong, but I don't think that the number of walk-ons is a factor. I think that we fill the total headcount imposed by the NCAA like other state schools.
We have a tremendous financial aid program.

I assume the 60k per year price tag scares many potential walk ons away.

No. It does not. I apologize if my post was confusing, but that was intended to be implicit in the point of my post. We can have as many walk-ons as we want. We just have to award them financial aid based upon the same standards which we apply to non-athletes.
We generously award financial aid to non-athletes and therefore we can be as competitive in obtaining walk-ons as state schools because the level of financial aid we award makes the cost of attending UR competitive with the cost of attending state schools.

Next men up!
Mo, agree 100%. It is definitely not the time to be down. It's a great opportunity for those players who are next in line. Seems that last year we lost early on a preseason All American running back and his replacement ran wild in honor of his teammate. Suck it up guys and Roll Spide! OSC

not to downplay our losses but every team in the nation, no matter what level, has lost guys for the season. hate it but is how you build depth and find new gems that maybe you were not sure of before. pulling for our guys to have a full recovery and to keep the faith.

Really tough news. Feel terrible for Jones as it'll likely negatively affect his draft status.

Hope X can make full recovery. Thought he showed the potential to be our stud back.

Sure wish Hamlin didn't know how to use the post office.

Meh, I'm actually glad Hamlin did what he did. Showed us who he was. I'd rather not have guys like that associated with our programs anyway.

I am more concerned about our Safety situation than i am about our Running Back situation. With that said, i was worried about Safety when #13 was in there. Safeties - Jones included - have been taking bad angles on tackles and blowing coverage for the last month. Time for the Illinois transfer and a freshman or two to step up back there. Very big deal.

Totally agree. We should be able to run enough though I really hate that we lost Gordon and Xavier. The defense really took a hit. But I have a feeling they're going to pick it up. Good leadership on that side of the ball.

Not that long ago we had to start our backup fullback at running back against JMU. Record books were never the same.

+1 Mo. Coniker and Mack have not lived up to the standard so far. I have seen Grant (from Illinois) playing corner but I havent seen Lemond Johnson at safety in a while. Without better safety play it won't matter if we can stop the run or not. Bendnarzyk will tear us up if we play like we did against Albany. Hopefully these guys step up

I'd consider moving Porter Abell back there for some depth. Quick and talented kid that isn't getting the reps on offense.

Interesting. Depending on JJ's health I wouldn't mind seeing Keels step back there. Then Grant can still play the nickel.

Trouble is, before the season started, the coaching staff was worried about being thin at running back. Now we've lost our starter and his backup. Our current backup at running back is also our backup quarterback. And the season isn't half over if you figure we will be in the playoffs.

Nobody on the coaching staff said we were thin at running back. We were unproven.

And Jay Palmer is the backup.
