The NIT

True. Not sure how fans we would get for a second round game vs Green Bay, but if we get uconn next week I would expect the place to be rocking. It's a tough draw but agree about the exposure, tv and major bcs programs coming to our building

Until this year, the best environment I'd ever seen in the RC was when Syracuse came into town for the NIT that year in the early 2000s. That was awesome. Would probably be similar for UConn, even though they aren't at that level this year.

Bring on the name opponents it's the only chance of getting BCS teams in our building outside of the few we have had. Should be fun for all you local Richmond folks go Spiders!

Getting the defending national champs in our place will be great exposure. That game will headline ESPN if it happens

What I see is a lot of good programs that didn't quite make it this year. All of the whining on this board about our schedule of out of conference games-now we have them. I guess now we'll see. Would love to beat U Conn!

Go Spiders!

Guys have to admit this is the best case scenario for us outside making the NCAAs. No one thought we were last four out so to get a #1 seed and all the games at home before MSG is quite unreal. Let's take advantage of it the players and coaches should be stoked over the opportunity to host these types of teams!

This is the best and worst I could have hoped for. I am ecstatic we got a 1 seed and will get some quality opponents at home. The bad news, I very likely have to watch my two favorite teams (spiders and huskies) beat each other up to make the next round. I just tried to beg out of my son's second birthday party to travel down from NY for the game. My wife politely told me, no chance. It better be on TV!!

Quote in the RTD from chairman about the Spiders. Gosh I wish we had that GMU game back and a few others:

The chair of the Division I Men's Basketball Committee, Utah State Athletic Director Scott Barnes, said the Spiders were discussed "extensively" as potential at-large qualifiers for the NCAA field of 68.

"When you think of their overall body of work, against the top 50 they were 3-6, and 4-4 against top 100," said Barnes. "Two losses to teams in the 150 range was something that was also discussed. And one in the 220-plus range, a loss to George Mason, was taken into consideration."

2nd round game would be sometime between Friday and Monday.

3rd round Tuesday or Wednesday, In case anyone needs to schedule.

Richmond vs. Dayton must have been an interesting discussion. We had 3 top-50 wins, they had 1. We had a 220+ loss and so did they (Duquesne). I guess their RPI was the deciding factor there, and possibly the head to head win over us.

Big difference between UR and UD SOS was the conference H2H pairings...

UR H2H against VCU, Davidson, GW, GMU.

Day H2H against SLU, Fordham, Bona, Lasalle.

Have to think the Flyers will be on the phone with Bernie looking to change that.

Just how hard it is to dominate D1 men's basketball every year, is reflected in schools like Florida, Tennessee, Michigan, and South Carolina, being unable to gain an NIT invite. Big schools with recruiting advantages over UR, and bigger athletic budgets. It's nice to at least have the respect of a #1 seed. Now, we need to show that we deserved that respect. I hope we get UConn (although ASU would be fine) and the Miami Canes, at RC. And let's invite all of potential recruits to the games.

We also need to burnish our resume to be included in the A-10/ACC doubleheaders at Barclay's Center

Yes. Email is out and season ticket holders can get their same seats. You have until 5pm Tuesday to buy them. After that, they go up for public sale.

Looked on Vegasinsider and didn't see a spread posted yet. The names are there, just not the spread. I predict about a 6-8 point spread.

NIT gave the Spiders the respect due, now beat the major conf teams after STF and show it is deserved. Have the committee thinking of UR for 2016 as a tourny team if the season plays out as expected.

UConn at Richmond. That will be one tough matchup. No guarantee here even with a home game.

Outstanding opportunity for the Spiders to make some noise against some bigger name schools.

If we do well in this, could it translate into an invite to next years pre-season NIT?

What day would the UCONN/ASU game be? Its says March 20-23 but do we know exact day yet? And you would think we could sell that out. I personally want UCONN as it would be cool to host the defending national champions. I think our athletic dept. would advertise it as such and hopefully get the students and casual fans excited.
GO SPIDERS!!!

I thought they got rid of the preseason NIT? Or maybe they just pared it down some. There was some issue this year with some teams having to find new games because they were going to be in the preseason NIT but then were not. Can't recall.

But maybe getting in the NIT will endear us to, say, the Gazelle Group. I wonder if they have any interesting tournaments next year??

Preseason NIT got downsized this year because they couldn't fill it out. Four decent schools got two crappy games and then another pair amongst themselves at MSG. It's not nearly the tournament it once was. Villanova is reportedly on board for next year, but no other announcements.

As usual, many of our A-10 brethren are locked into quality exempt tournaments for next year already. No sign of the Spiders yet.

First, I noticed Yale was missing...

Second, BTW if we play Alabama in the third game, do we schedule an interview with Anthony Grant to replace Mooney at the same time? He is looking for job, right?

I'm assuming we got the hardest bracket of the #1 seeds, because we were the "Last of the Last 4 out," which I suppose made us the last #1 seed. Fair enough, I suppose.

The four teams that were left out of the NCAA tournament in order were Temple, Colorado State, Old Dominion and Richmond -- the four No. 1 seeds in the NIT.

NCAA

Anthony Grant got canned. They will be without a coach if we play them (which I doubt they make it that far). I don't want someone else's garbage even if we were looking for a coach. He can coach the SoCon or go back to being Billy Donovan's lap dog again for all I care. VCU fans have forgotten about him (at least the ones who didn't jump on board until 2011).

UCONN at home would be HUGE! Would that be the first time a defending National Champion came to the RC?

Great bracket! The tourney should be a fun, competitive building block. Glad we got the 'exposure' quadrant---beat St Francis and bring on the GAM (Grown ass men).

All 2015 NIT games will also include two experimental rules.Teams will compete using a 30-second shot clock instead of the current 35-second shot clock. The 31 games of the NIT will also have a four-foot restricted-area arc as opposed to the current three-foot arc.

Disappointed in Colorado St. I really thought they were the biggest snub by the NCAA, getting 27 wins in the Mountain West is pretty impressive. But when you go out and lose to the an 8 seed on your home court in the NIT, tough to say the committee made a mistake.
