Odds are we host a game Tuesday or Wednesday. If things stay relatively where they are, we are looking at a 3 or 4 seed. There is a decent chance Michigan will be a 5 or 6 seed, which means we could host them and JB. I'm rooting for this to happen.

Yes would be nice to have that happen but imagine the first game will be a geographically closer opponent.

Hope it's not a rematch with Bill and Mare, I'm not so sure we would win and I sure would hate to lose to them.

I don't think the NIT really cares about geography that much. I mean if it works out, great, but they seed all the teams and the higher seeds get home games, so it's not really something you can tweak too much. As I understand it, the NCAA pays all the plane fares and lodging, etc. for the NIT teams just like it does for the NCAAs.

And actually, now I see Michigan is not listed in many NIT projections anymore anyway.

Teams in that projected 5-6 seed range are Oregon State, Iona, Yale, Buffalo, Arizona State, Minnesota, UTEP, Illinois State, St. Mary's (CA), Pittsburgh, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Harvard, Memphis, Vanderbilt.

W&M is projected as a 7- or 8-seed, so it's unlikely we'd see them in the first round.

Actually, I think Harvard and Yale play today for the Ivy title, so only one of them will be in the NIT.

That poses a very interesting question about those two teams and the NIT. Since the Ivy League has no conference tournament, the winner of today's playoff game will be the regular season champ and will get the automatic NCAA bid. So the loser will place second in the regular season and won't get an automatic bid to the NIT. However, I suppose either one might get an At Large bid to the NIT, but I doubt it.

I think their records warrant an NIT bid.

I also saw some boards where we might host Tennessee in the first round as well. Lots of Orange people that live here. Could be a good crowd.

Hey, are they going to test using a 30 sec clock during NIT games? Will be interesting if they do.

They are, as well as change the restricted area under the basket from 3 feet to 4 feet.

While I wouldn't mind the 30 sec clock, all the shenanigans to try and create more offense is moot. Until players learn the right way to shoot, practice hundreds of shots a day, and begin moving without the ball, none of this will stop all the clunkers hitting the rims across the country. And there aren't that many charges called these days compared to all the blocks that are caused by the O player creating contact, so can't imagine changing the restricted area will make any difference.

I agree, Midlo. If they think the shot clock is what is keeping scores low, they should just institute a 5-second shot clock. Then every game would be 200-199, right??

The 30 sec clock is for teams who can't play D. Post season was Darrius Garretts coming out party. Like to see more of smithen and flexibility/adjustment from the bench.

The 32-team NIT bracket will be announced on Sunday, March 15, at 8:30 p.m. on ESPNU. First-round games of the NIT will be on Tuesday, March 17, and Wednesday, March 18. Second-round games are set for March 20-23, with the quarterfinals to follow on March 24-25. The NIT Semifinals and Championship will be March 31 and April 2 in Madison Square Garden.

I hope an NIT bid comes our way, I do not want to see our season end yet. Let's go Spiders. Three wins and we can go back to New York.

Most of the projections, I've seen, have UR as a 3rd seed. If they are remotely accurate, UR will be included. Michigan has ruled out CBI/CIT, but does want to play in NIT, and have submitted a bid to host a game. But, from what I've read, they are a longshot, and probably won't make the final cut.

JMU, one of our worst losses, has agreed to play in the CIT. ODU will be in the NIT, maybe we'll got a second shot at them.

FWIW, Michigan played one of toughest schedules, I think they are worthy of being included. But, over past 4 tournaments, no .500 team has been invited.

Not that they seed the NIT, they don't look at geography quite as much. I think ODU would be more likely as a second game and down there.

Interesting that Illinois has a conflict with hosting and don't know if that is just the first game.

Here are some possible first round games at the Robins Center - Pitt, Bama, maybe Michigan, or Yale, Iona, maybe St. Mary's.

There are about 10 definite AQs for the NIT at this point (those Regular season conf. champs that lost in Conf. Tourney and probably wouldn't get in the NCAA as an at-large). Not so sure Boise St. is getting in the big dance, so that would make 11 if they don't get in. Are we sure we're getting into the NIT? Are we going to storm Mooney's house with torches if we don't get in?

Teams With NIT Auto Bids (If Needed):

Ga State plays Ga Southern today for Sun Belt championship. If Ga State loses they'll play in NIT.

Seth Davis has us this morning as his 4th team out of the NCAAs, which would make us a 1 seed in the NIT.

It also tells me that had we beaten VCU, we would probably be in. Although possibly having done so would have made VCU seem worse and therefore not been as impressive a win. I hate to say it, but there's a chance that the best thing for us today would be for VCU to beat Dayton by 30 so that our 3 games against them really stand out.

And who knows...maybe there is a sliver of chance we hear our name called at 630.

Eight, intellectually I can appreciate your sentiments. However, as previously stated, I hope vcu loses every game until the end of time.

I don't think we were one win away from a bid. Seth Davis had us in first four out but majority of the other mock brackets did not

Ulla. I am +1 +2 & +3 on your sentiment!! :)

Scroll down about 1/2 way.

I just saw the above link. It has us projected as a 2 seed. Check out the 7 seeds - W & M is a 7...hmm.

I read that tweet from Seth Davis this morning. I noticed that half the people who responded to it were VCU fans.

Now that VCU has won the A10 Tournament, don't be surprised if UR is ignored by the local media if the Spiders make the NIT.

I think this NIT showing is really important for next years team. I want these guys to get a taste of the postseason and be hungry for next year to take the next step up to the NCAAs. We have the senior laden Mooney team to do it and nothing less than that would be a major disappointment.

Would also love to see these guys go on a run here and make it to MSG that would be a great consolation prize and a first for Richmond hoops with the NIT. Go Spiders proud of the turnaround!

We will be one of the best 5 or 6 teams in the NIT. Whether we play like it or not, who knows. But we certainly have a very real chance of going to MSG.

Compare our numbers to all of the bubble teams, and we actually stack up quite favorably. Had we won even one more game at any point in the season, we are probably in. Had we beaten VCU and Davidson, I think we'd probably be a lock right now.

Even still, we went 3-6 against the top 50. That's better than Texas (3-12), Temple (2-8), Indiana (4-9), Miami (2-7), UCLA (2-8), Texas A&M (0-5), probably for these purposes ODU (1-0) and Murray State (0-2).

Basically only LSU (3-2), Boise State (3-3) and Ole Miss (3-3) were better than us there among bubble teams.

Our strength of schedule was #32; only Texas, Indiana and UCLA had better ones, and the others were not really close to us. Essentially, we are the most well-rounded bubble team. A few did slightly better in top-50 wins, a few played slightly harder schedules, but none did both better than we did.

Just putting it out there...

Eight my concern is that we only won 5 games away from our building. Hope all our games are at home until MSG.

2nd round vs winner of Academic bowl Stanford-Yale

But I'd take UConn's draw since I think Illinois can't host...

3:10pm Sunday

I think we can make a run in the NIT, especially with a good draw. Nit is what we earned this year. We could have been an NCAA's team with a win or two more but ncaa teams don't choke away as many chances as we had.

Last projection is 3 A-10 teams to be in the NIT, likely 3 in NCAA. Not a bad year for an "off season". But we need to go out and represent.
