We're certainly staying busy. Quality player out of Sacred Heart just finished a visit to San Diego and will be at UR tomorrow.
Good memory. Ended up at Hofstra.Feel like we were involved with his brother Tyler at one time.
Sadly last year we finished #253 and Sacred Heart was #254....The MAAC was only ranked better than five other conferences last season with an average NET rating of 267
Yep, I like the production at D1 level. Good 3P %. Foot speed? The highlights don't show too much ability to go by. But highlights are hard to tell a lot. But yes, good size at the wing - but not seeing Dji or Bigs type of foot speed.hard to know what to really expect for guys transferring up from these really low-major programs. The MAAC was only ranked better than five other conferences last season with an average NET rating of 267 in conference but hopefully him being on the all-conference team is a good sign at least if he comes here.
I'm on record that I don't like any of our wing players, so I would be all on board with landing Thomas, he is a proven D-1 player. If he commits, he would likely be our starter at the 3. The less Tanner and AP we see next year the better.Watched his highlights online and seems like a good fit. Glad that we’re going after players more willing to drive to the basket and play physically, while still having a good 3 point shooting percentage. Also, he would definitely be at the 3 and Johnston would be at the 2, and so we’ll have a taller starting line-up than normal. Curious if he commits, whether we’ll see anyone else transferring out of our team.
I think the hope that many of us have that McGlothin and Robinson will go from redshirting their first season to playing meaningful minutes is probably not realistic. If they get no playing time, then I think that is not a good sign for the level of contribution they'll have the following years, but if they can each contribute 5-10 minutes a game this season then I think there is more optimism that the following season they can be starters or 6th-7th guys off the bench. In doing so, will cut into Tanner & AP playing time. I think the ceiling is higher for both McGlothin and Robinson than Tanner & AP but that is going off a feeling and not anything proven on court. If we can take a player who can contribute now, we do so. It also helps our younger guys to practice against older, stronger, more experienced college players too.I'm on record that I don't like any of our wing players, so I would be all on board with landing Thomas, he is a proven D-1 player. However, if I'm McGlothin or Robinson, I have to wonder what does this mean for me. Both of these guys redshirted last year and in essence lost the opportunity to show what they could do at this level and now might be buried in the depth chart by two players who have already shown what they can do on a college court.
I like Robinson a lot, he is all over the floor and hopefully he gets pt this year. We needed his athletism and enegry badly this past season.I feel like Bryson is boom or bust. Loved his highlights. Did he get adjusted to the culture of comfort - and also is lateral foot speed an issue. If both answers are no, I think that is our starting wing. If either answer is yes, well....
Robinson is a stud athelete. He I feel like he can impact the game in many ways. Hopefully shot a billion jump shots and got a go to move in the post a la Cayo.
Both Thomas and Daughtry are juniors though, so are they good with playing back-up minutes for the next 2 years? I do agree just based on what I saw the ceiling is higher on them than it is on Tanner and AP. Which leads to another question is do they jump Tanner and AP on the depth chart this year?I think the hope that many of us have that McGlothin and Robinson will go from redshirting their first season to playing meaningful minutes is probably not realistic. I imagine Robinson at 3 and McGlothin at 4. Since I haven’t seen any of these guys play for UR, it’s pure speculation at this point but I think Robinson can jump Thomas on depth chart. Not sure with Tanner at this point. McGlothin, I doubt will be ahead of Daughtry but at that point AP will have graduated and McGlothin can get compete for solid back up minutes as a redshirt sophomore which is pretty solid. Competition is a good thing and we want the best players playing. If it doesn’t pan out, they may want to explore other options elsewhere like many of our former players have. That’s the nature of the game, although it doesn’t exactly make me confident in this staff’s ability to recruit high school talent when we haven’t had many high school recruits play meaningful minutes here over the years. Both Thomas and Daughtry are juniors though, so are they good with playing back-up minutes for the next 2 years? In our case though, Mooney has repeatedly expressed his desire of maintaining and developing high school recruits as a priority. If that’s the case and these high school recruits still aren’t getting playing time over the transfers, then it’s a testament to poor ability from the staff to recruit talented enough high school players at the A10 level. Now, it shouldn’t come to a surprise that freshman won’t play much, though it’d be nice to have a freshman starter/contributor every now and then, but if by year 3 they aren’t contributing much, then it’s an issue. In Robinson/McGlothin case, I don’t expect a big jump from redshirting to meaningful contributor this year but at least trend in that direction to set up a more impactful year 3 for them. If we don’t see that growth, I wouldn’t be surprised if they transfer the following year.I feel like this portal era stunts the growth of all high school recruits. You used to have to live with the ups and downs of freshmen. Today you plug in a transfer and keep the freshman on the bench.
I bet not all of our superstar freshman class from 2017 (?) would get early time if the portal was then like it is today. Some would have still developed, but others might have wasted away on the bench and eventually transferred out.
Coming out of HS, it definitely seemed McGlothin had wing skills, whereas Robinson was a physical attack the rim type of power forward. I know McGlothin has a couple inches on Robinson, but he definitely seemed like he was more comfortable with the ball facing the basket.
