My son texted me today. He mentioned that "his friends on the football team say the new strength and conditioning coach that Coach Huesman brought with him is head and shoulders above the previous guy". (I assume this means Stewart). "It was the first thing they all brought up."

I don't even know the name of the new S&C Coach, but sounds like he must be the real deal.

I don't have any specific criticism of Coach Stewart, but there were an awful lot of injuries as we all know. Some can be chalked up to the nature of the sport and some injuries are flukes, but maybe the training methods needed overhauled or a different perspective.

Scott Brincks. I met him tonight. Very nice guy and I'm glad to hear the report, Dad.

Great to hear. I know Stewart was an outstanding strength coach and aa lot of people believe he was a big part of our success. If we have someone who is even better than coach Stewart than that is awesome! Did this guy come from UTC?

Nah... the MEAC.

Is Jeff Appel still working with the football team at all? Even though he is the head strength coach for lacrosse and baseball, he has always helped out with football. Hoping that remains the same.

I met Coach Stewart several times and always thought very highly of him. Very encouraging to hear that the players are excited about his replacement. I had heard that Coach Appel was going to remain an integral part of the strength and conditioning program, which I think will help with Scott Brincks' transition.

I spoke with Coach Huesman after the basketball game Sunday and he made an interesting comment. He believes that a lot of injuries can be prevented with the proper strength conditioning and stretching. He said that some injuries are unavoidable but that last year at Chattanooga, they had zero season ending injuries. If we could have cut our season ending injuries in half, what might we have accomplished? He also said that he was real excited about the recruits that he feels will sign. Very upbeat. Looking forward to next season.

Some fans see a HUGE connection between a team's injury record and the quality of their S&C coach. I happen to be in that camp. Sure, some injuries are just based on bad luck, but the best S&C coaches consistently have fewer significant injuries than their weaker counterparts.

Urban Meyer happens to believe that a S&C coach can PREVENT injuries, and he has paid huge dollars to his S&C coaches, and even pilfered Florida's S&C coach when he moved to Ohio State.

I am one of those fans who believes that this hire will be a huge upgrade for us, and I do not believe we will see nearly the same devastating injuries this coming season as last. If the S&C coach could have prevented our injuries at RB and QB, we were headed for a possible national championship, especially after that early win at UVA. As it was, we did not have a chance, in the end, due largely to our injuries. Thumbs up to the new S&C coach!

Anyone have any updates on Laulettas progress/recovery? With his injury happening so late in the season what is the likelihood he is fully recovered by august?

I have heard that the recovery is going remarkably well for Kyle. The staff seems 'bullish' on the timetable for Kyle.

I agree, but am curious if any of our devastating injuries would have been prevented by top efforts in the s and c room? You seem knowledgeable on the subject and am curious to hear your answer.

My son has been playing football since he was 6 years old, he is now 21 years old and a few years ago he contacted a group of teenagers who got him hooked on drugs and alcohol. When my husband and I found out, we talked to him and sent him to Private RehabClinic Scotland. We saw that there were very good conditions and excellent specialists and we hoped that they would help him cope with his problems. He was there for about 3 months and he liked it and how we took him away, he became very sociable and stopped talking to that group of teenagers. It's been about 3 years and everything is fine, but I'm worried that he might get into trouble again. do you think there is such a chance? :)
