St Joe’s game observations

I thought that was a super weird comment.

Come back so you can get your ass kicked by a mediocre st joes team (again).

Weird, unbelievable, many adjectives none that r good. Listening I was like did the Moon man really just say that?

They decidedly did not come back for a 27 point beatdown that essentially eliminates any at large chances that were so fragile to begin with after taking too many OOC losses. It's one thing if that was our 2nd loss. & we know why they came back, it's on the record. I can only imagine the players just shaking their heads in disgust hearing that bs. Moon could have said it after the Utah St. game. But now...lol. hey guys THIS is why you came back! ps happy new year fellas.

It's so hard being a Richmond basketball fan. I'm really glad that I played poker last night instead of going to the game...

There is no reason for Gilyard to play 38 minutes per game. He is missing 67% of his shots and he still has no clue as to what is a good shot for him. Play 8 guys only. Grace, Nick and Bailey only ones off the bench for now.

Hey guess what guys, everything's ok because NOW we're going to let people know what we have inside us! We wouldn't have wanted to do that already of course, because it's much better to get your ass handed to you on your home court by a terrible program and THEN do it.

I have to say that of all the things I hate about this program, this type of garbage is what I cannot stand the most. Mooney is the master of trying to spin things this way. Like what the hell do you mean NOW we're going to show everyone what we're made of? We've played 14 games already! THIS IS what we're made of.

How many times this year alone, much less in the past six years, have we started games so lethargically and gotten behind to inferior teams? DOZENS! How many times has someone said post game "We really need to work on coming out more aggressively next time." What normally happens next time? The same exact thing!

This is going on years and years of this bullshit, and we should all be exhausted from being fed drivel like this, as if we are second-grade idiots.

If we were made of something different than what we saw last night, we would be 12-2 or 13-1 right now. We're not. We're made of marshmallows and feathers.

spot on. 14 games in and 100+ games into the career of half the damn team and still trying to feed us the "we are finally figuring it out!" BS. They think we are complete fools.

This team reflects their coach, entitled and complacent. It’s been so long since they have shown any fire in their belly they can’t generate it when it’s required.

Making it even worse they have the talent just not the motivation. Pathetic. Fire Mooney today.

Stagnant I think is the word I would use to describe this team.

Other teams in the A10 are growing and Spider fans get to see the same old thing for another year.

The good news is the A10 is not a strong league, so the Spiders “have a chance” to win the regular season and the A10 tournament, but all the other teams have the same chance. The super Seniors aren’t showing us any sort of renewed focus, in fact it seems to be more of a disinterest at this point. Spiders are back in the same place they usually are - looking for a leader and something to rally around.

Shooting killed us. Can't win many games shooting 28% overall and 18% from deep. But give some credit to St. Joes and Lange on that. Yes - we did miss some open shots, but I also thought they took us out of rhythm. It felt like early on in the game - St. Joes game plan was to lay off Grant and let him create and shoot. And even though he knocked down shots (had a three in the corner, then a three up top) - he also missed shots that I think he took out of rhythm. There were times he would catch the ball, look around and his defender was 10 feet off him - so he would dribble once or twice closer to the hoop and take a jumper - he seemed to missed these more than shooting right off the catch. He did have 14 points - but he took 17 shots and 7 three pointers to get there. It was almost like they were willing to see could Grant get hot enough to take them out of this scheme and beat them.

But what I think it did more than anything is take guys out of the flow of the game. You would have guys like Gilyard and Burton barely touch the ball for 2-3 possessions at a time, then get the ball and feel like they got to make something happen.

Plus we had a slow extended drought in 2nd half where we only scored 8 points in the first 8 minutes of the half.

But the bigger issue and something that has been the past few years - defense. We couldn't stop or slow down St. Joes in 2nd half. Good teams, even when shooting is off for a game or two, can still keep themselves in the game with their defense. Not saying they will always win those poor shooting games - but they find a way to keep it close and maybe win ugly at the end, or get some luck, etc. When your down 20 points with 10 minutes - that is not keeping it close or keeping yourself in the game. And that is a major red flag for a potential NCAA team. Anyone can win when you shoot well - but what will do on those nights when you just shoot average or below average? What happens then? Do you grind out a win by 2 points or keep it close and win some lose some. Or do you fold and lose by 20 at home to a team picked near the bottom of the league?

Just about anything to spin a loss. To sell tickets you sell a dream. The dream is to repeat the same story. And make people believe it. Losing by 25 points on your home floor.

Difference in Mooney and Alfred E. Neuman is that Neuman's satire was actually funny, while Mooney's satire is well.....satire about his own performance...................

a whole team can’t shoot in there own gym? I still thinks it’s conditioning. Look at how many of the shots were short. A few days off doing nothing and we have no energy, dead legs? Poor effort

You forgot doilies.

You know it’s really bad when the hoops Twitter account stops tweeting at halftime.

We don’t even practice in our own gym anymore. There is no home court advantage when you don’t shoot at your home baskets.

I never understood the logic of practicing in a different gym (unless you’re forced to). Depth perception is really an issue in shooting.

This. This starting five has probably played more minutes than any non-playoff team in the history of college basketball. They have spent countless hours practicing with Mooney ass coach. They have got to be mentally tired of college basketball; how do you continue to get up for games year after year after year, especially after so many many disappointments? The excitement is gone, now it's just a grind. I wouldn't be surprised if some are regretting their decision to come back for a 5th/6th year.

Luckily they can drink legally.

Was there ever a worst loss than this for Mooney? A 11-12 fav and just totally blown away at home by a what, a bottom half A10 Joe's. Was out and saw down 38-32 but thought they will come back and win. Get home and 47-38 and step away from TV for a few minutes and see 61-39.

No doubt Mooney has no accountability to anyone above but these players also have none. The more I see them on the court they appear to be full of themselves like they have already won something. First GG, this game Jacob with the T. Who didn't see that coming. Inside their heads the players must feel they do no wrong.
