Spiders vs. Tribe in game thread

nobody likes the cushion we give receivers at the line but we won 8 games playing that way. are we the official caa champs with nova losing?

3 way CAA tie with WM and UMJ, we beat both so I think we get the AQ.
We needed help at kicker badly, and I heard Howard was in the stands today.

Making a touchdown and then missing the extra point is a morale killer. No need to go for two at that point in the game. Bad bad coaching decision.

some of you really amaze me with your thoughts, might wish to keep them to yourselves while you sulk

The corners are not very fast and got beat early and often in the first 6 games by poor teams . I guess the coaches had to go to the bend not break method of defense. Thinking a college QB cannot run 10 or 12 plays without making a mistake. It worked today with the added pressure (finally) from the defensive line.

We just pushed around a really good football team all game long. You see it in the second half, when we dont turn it over we are a very good football team. I dont like the corners playing so far off either, but the D was great today. We didnt give up a touchdown against a top 10 football team. Great job by the team today. Awesome day tailgating and at the stadium.

Corners play off by design. D designed to always stop run first, leave corners on an island without help from a safety often, and either stop pass for small /medium gain or break on the ball for an int. Bend defense, but designed to prevent the big play. That is what I see but defer to those who know the game better than I.

Hey, 8-3 and could have easily been 10-1 so I'm not quibbling with the coaching, O or D. We also had a ton of injuries in the secondary for the entire season.

You're not going to agree with every coaching decision or strategy, but the staff deserves some credit. Style points don't matter but wins and losses do. UR lost a lot of good players from last year and to come back with an 8-3 record and a share of the CAA championship is pretty darn good in my book.

Am watching the replay and it is obvious that we have better athletes overall and much better team speed. Rocco has recruited well. Pretty good coaching job too. Team could have folded after the two tough losses but he got them up and made them believe. We sure were close to 10-1.

Howard was in my section. That was a cool moment. At least a dozen people yelled for him to suit up.

O and D both played well today. ST still needs work.

WebSpinner, I know you don't like criticism on this board, but there were a couple of common sense decisions that cost us points in what was a close game. They should be open to critique.
I understand the bend but don't break defense, but it's dependent on turnovers. There's a reason we only had 9 punt return yards for the entire season before this game.

Cluley picked a good day to have a bad game. 3 picks and could easily have been 5.

Most of you computer fans on this board are a joke. We graduate 22 seniors, are picked to finish 6th in the league and yet finish 8-3 with conference title beating two in-state rivals in a rebuilding year. No fan on this board thought at the beginning of Year this was possible. Coach Rocco has restored this program to where it should be. A yearly contender for a conference crown and back to back playoff trips. Wake up and enjoy success !

I watched the games at the stadium and the replay when I got home. Sure we made mistakes, sure the coaches made mistakes, always easier to say after the fact than in the heat of the game. I don't mind criticism, but these guys have played hard ALL season and deserve some support also. Some of the posters have a hard time posting anything positive. Reading this thread made me wonder if you guys saw the same game I saw. We were never out of the game against a top ten team. A team known for it's O did not score a TD. We've beaten our rivals the lase 4 games. We were never out of the game -- in fact most around me at the game were thinking we we in control most of the game.

I'm looking forward to the playoffs GO SPIDERS!

Well said Spiderjo. We beat a Top 10 team today, won the CAA, and are in serious contention for a first round bye in the playoffs. That is a pretty darn good regular season and I don't think even the most optimistic fan would have predicted at the beginning of the year.

Jacobi Green has been absolute beast, Lauletta is a sophmore and is already really good, we have 2 of the best receivers in the league and the defense has played well all year.

And credit for all this goes to Rocco. Perhaps we can let the call on the 2 point play slide for the day.

Rocco beat 2 top-10 rival teams WITH his own recruiting class. Program is in a perfect spot. The losses at UNH and Nova weren't terrible losses. Sometimes you lose tough games. 36 touches for Jacobi are a reminder of the 07-08 days. People who jump off the wagon on this team after UNH and Nova may want to get back on

And how about that O line today. Just a dominating preformance all game. They opened holes for Jacobi and kept Kyle clean against a really good defense. Outstanding effort.

Don't know what we have left in 2015 but we'll be close to top 5 in the country going into 2016.

Beautiful afternoon in the Brickhouse.WM QB under pressure all afternoon. He was getting the snot kicked out of him.Credit Trott and his DL.98 and 97 and 92 and 41 were terrific.Nice stunting and tough aggression even though we were being held repeatedly.13 and 28 and 8 and 9 and 10 played exceptionally well.46 and Hodge played tough and were quick to the ball.

Our OL seemed to say to Mr Green"follow me".Dominated Tribe defense.11 and 12 are exceptional WR's and KL for the most part had the ball on a string. He checked off a number of times for successful plays when he saw Tribe alignments.

Jacobi should be the top vote getter for the Dudley award. An exceptional runner. He savors running the ball.

Congrats to Jacobi and the o line for another dominating performance.

#1 has stepped up big time this year, just a fantastic year for the senior. He became a different player this year with power and speed.

D definitely throttled a team that's been chewing up opponents lately. Lots of heart out there. And credit our front 7 putting some pressure on Cluley for most of those INTs (good things happen when we go after QBs). I actually like it when we go for the 2pt conversion, and just shows confidence coaches have in their D to keep the opponent at bay. Also great job by our backup kicker to get all his PATs; can't imagine the pressure he was feeling today. Great W and awesome that season is continuing for our Spiders.

Hey I'm cheering louder than most in the stands. Nobody said we were out of the game. Mistakes are costly in a close game (see VU 21, UR 20).

Spiders have had a great season and exceeded expectations.

This is the "in game" thread - and criticism of in-game decisions in real time are valid. It's also the proper thread for congratulating good plays and efforts.
There are plenty of threads for rah rah season synopses.
Calling other fans "a joke" - fans that include long time season ticket holders, former players etc..well..

Cluley got hit hard and often. I loved to see that.
CAA referee did a good job. I've seen lesser CAA crews call roughing the passer on some of those clean hits we delivered.

Comcast Sports net is replaying the game tonight at 7pm. It is chanel 576 on Verizon.

Okay, let's be honest now. Who had this team winning eight games before the season began? Not me. Eight wins in the regular season seems to be DR's number. I am very happy with the job the coaching staff and team did this year. OSC

KE, without getting too much into the details, thats a good analysis of the corners playing off. Sadly there is no true strength to our D, so both DL and secondary need help. Sometimes a bad combo

Choppin, my problem with the in game was that it was almost ALL negative -- there were a lot of good things going on and none were mentioned. If you love your team certainly you see SOME good while the play is occurring. I get frustrated and make negative comments, but I still see much more good than bad
