Spiders v Eastern Washington

That makes me feel a little better.
It really shouldn't. Gubrud threw for over 4000 yards in the regular season, and he's only a sophomore. Led FCS in total offense. And Cooper Kupp at WR is a stud. They'll be every bit the handful JMU was and more.

Their defense actually ranks pretty poorly, at least in terms of yards given up. But part of is just that their offense is so powerful and quick-strike that the defense spends a lot of time on the field.

I really meant a little. From what I saw today on the red carpet makes me concerned either way. Am looking for something to hang s hat on.

Basically this. I probably over rated their defense, and under rated their offense...if that's possible. They will score 30 points, so it will up to us to keep them to a reasonable rate and try to shorten the game.

I think that a big part of our figuring out how to run in the second half had to do with wearing down their defense.
How was that iSpider! They were ahead on time of possession. I think our big
pass plays took the wind out of their sails and sapped their adrenaline.

A JMU turd crowed that NDU gave the game away and UR was lucky to win and the result almost made him vomit!

I hope the guy puckes all over himself after Sammy State beats the crap out of those morons at the ugly aluminum chicken coop next Sat!

BS, it was pure luck and a great catch. I will take it.
that's what a 50/50 ball is, two players the same opportunity to get the ball. The receiver was covered but it was only one on one, it worked. Luck may have played a small part but the pass was where it needed to be.

How healthy is Cupp?

No way Tyler was going to miss catching that pass, after his fumble late in Q2. What was more amazing was doing it with DB grabbing him. Stepped up big!

Luck plays a part in any playoff game and UND had their share, particularly with that no-call on the blatant interference on Brian, which probably would have been a TD (or at least close). What amazed me more after watching replay of the whole game is how our guys didn't let their mistakes (and there were plenty of them) phase them and they continued to fight. That's what champions do!

Throwing it into 1-1 coverage to a taller receiver with an inside step on the post route is not luck. That's called football. Probably KJs 3rd progression and a great matchup if he has time. He created time and big play with it.

Right now weather forecast at EWU calls for snow on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Will affect their ability to pass out of the spread. Weather, if white, should help us in this match up.
It should also tone down that obnoxious red field.

*Kupp. He's already stated he will play. He's a tough SOB. Sat out the 2nd half against UCA as a precautionary measure. As long as he can run and get one hand up, he'll be fine.

I watched some of the UCA game and they were talking about how beaten up Kupp was.

Their coach has as been mentioned in the media as a candidate for several positions, I including Nevada, UNLV, and Oregon. Sounds familiar.

I agree, and said it was a 50/50 ball and we were lucky to get it. Praised both Wilkens for the great catch and KJ for having the guts to throw it.

Watch the replay boys. Both wrong.Sorry no luck involved.Go to the basketball board and dream.Go to 2:07 remaining in game. You'll learn something about football and how it's played.Calling a 50/50 ball and luck because a kid made a terrific catch by fronting the defender, outjumping the defender, reaching back and catching the ball at his upper chest is quite telling when the critique is offered by literally a few male cheerleaders that are good at waving pom poms in short shorts.

I agree. Great catch, great effort. He showed his skill as a great receiver. He shouldn't be short'-changed.

And he knows it too: I hear he has already peroxided the top portion of his hair like OB.
The only difference is that he used both hands, OB one.

KJ made the right decision with one on one coverage to give Wilkins a chance to go make a play. He did just that. No luck involved.

Awesome video Ulla!!!!!

Loved it

Emotion is critical at this time of year!!

Maybe this is off topic for the "was the catch lucky thread" but I thought I'd offer a thought:

It's not just Cooper Kupp y'all should look into as far as understanding EWU football. Sure he's 1300+ with 14TDs.

But the real catch is that we have two other 1000yd receivers in Kendrick Bourne (6TDs) and Shaq Hill (15TDs). That's 3500yds and 35 TDs for the trio.

And the depth doesn't fall off after them, as the rest have combined for the other 1000yds and 7tds lacking only the opportunities for more.

That's the challenge in defending this Eagles team. Combine that with a QB with good rushing ability and receivers who rush AND pass as well. I believe this is what gives the team such a fantastic 3rd down efficiency.

Yes, the Spiders will be challenged this weekend.

We need to make sure where ever they decide to hold a viewing party they have black and white tvs. I can't stand looking at that red field. OR maybe we should wear our solid red uniforms....camouflage?

by the way didn't they stop or at least talk about teams with other than green fields playing with matching uniforms. I thought Boise and their blue jerseys started the issue.

I don't know if they've halted that practice recently, but you would not have to look very far back to see us in all red on the inferno. Though we've not chosen our all reds yet this season.

Opponents have been quoted as saying it's a non-factor but a fun/interesting curiosity to play on.

Personally, I like it. It's got a record of 40-7 and produced a few magical rivalry games including the very first game against Montana.

It will definitely be a test to see if this actually means anything...

Oops, wouldn't let me link to passing yards allowed.

That was definitely a question being bandied about by our own group. To what extent is that affected or not affected by styles of opponent. Certainly if a team allowed those passing yards in the Big Sky it would turn heads.

I'm still of a mind to consider it impressive while not feeling intimidated per se.

I've watched two of their games. They have a prolific offense, Good to great receivers and and excellent QB. Their defense is okay and a little beat up a linebacker but their front is pretty stout. Our best chance at winning this game is to get ahead of them early and try like hell to keep the ball away from them with long clock eating drives. We've got to score touchdowns. If we can't do that it will turn uglier than red turf.

No need to rub it in. We already know that we don't have a prayer of beating you guys and accept that such a beating is in store for our team that it may set the world record for beatings with respect to college football games. That is a given, and we would forfeit right now but for an obstinate AD who feeds on negative PR for the school since we have recently called him to task on an issue I cannot reveal.

I heard that your offensive players were awesome, even more than you say, especially the WRs... that they are not just skilled in their moves and ability to catch, but that they punish and destroy whenever they get a chance, sometimes running away from the end zone to which they are headed after a spectacular catch and head back to the CB or Saftey who they just left in their dust in order to punish him with a crushing, sometimes life-threatening blow. I have heard the same from others on the AGS board so I know that it is true.

I mention this because I just got off the phone with a Spider mom, a friend of mine who reads this board and has a son who is a backup CB but gets a lot of playing time. She suggested that she did not mind your WRs bewildering and embarrassing our CBs, LBs and Safeties with their almost inhuman moves and catching abilities, but she is fearful for her son's safety. She is a shy lady and she asked that I speak on her behalf to implore you to take it easy on her son who is a really nice guy, though obviously slow and inept when compared to the level of abilities of your WRs. I agreed because I share her concern and a concern for other members of our defensive backfield who I do not want to see hobbled for months after they return from the game. So, on her behalf and on behalf of other Spider moms too shy to speak up, I ask that you take this matter up with your team and should they be willing to agree not to engage in such ruthless punishment of our players, we will be forever in your debt. Once I receive your response, which I anticipate to be agreeable, I will be providing you with young man's number and probably the numbers of others whose moms are also fearful of such harm to their sons. They will undoubted come forth as game day approaches. You can have at the others as you desire, especially the DL who can better fend for themselves.
Thank you, in advance, for your consideration and, hopefully, your compassion.

Bet that was really worth the time it took to write.

We know better than most that there are no givens in the playoffs. Our best teams have come up short where a less talented but grittier version won it all.

I'm not guaranteeing anything for my team. I just thought that if you were a fan of football, maybe you'd like to get a perspective other than the media's. Because if you read STATS or any other of the like, they tend to write stories about games where Gubrud throws 100 times a game; Cooper Kupp catches all of them; and that we have never put a defensive player on our roster. I'm not sure where they watch these games, because I've never seen one matching that description myself.

I'm not here to stroke your ego or mine, I'm here to learn about your favorite football team. And perhaps offer some information about mine.

our last two outs in the playoffs were to Towson and Illinois State. Towson used the long drive keep the ball away method. ISU got ahead early and never took their foot off the gas. We needed one more completion and we'd have beat Towson by killing the clock and it fell off Kupp's hands (yes I acknowledge that they aren't unbeatable - yes I'm looking at you, Salty Mc"iSpider"). Against ISU we could have played a full second game and run up the score to 114-105 and still never closed the gap they got on us early. Boy that sucked to watch.
