SPIDERS and Rhode Island have been announced by the CAA as Co-Champions of CAA football.

Impossible. UR is undefeated and RI has a loss. Enjoy our championship and don’t worry about the haters. Back to back CAA Champions and leaving to go to a weak conference.

Is there a link? IIRC, wins over or losses to Delaware count in the league standings, but not in FCS standings and Delaware can't win the conference.

This is a joke and shows that the CAA will not support us in getting a top 8 seed. I am so sorry for this team and all that they did to prove we are the undefeated champions. What a shame!

Not impossible.... it is true. Now UR athletic staff needs to clarify what was agreed to about counting the results of the Delaware game.

I agree. This is where Hardt needs to step up and represent for his university. He led the decision to leave for the Patriot League so he needs to show some leadership and stand up for this team publicly that we are the CAA Champions and advocate to the selection committee that we deserve a top 8 seed.

This is just dumb, if we had a PR group that could spell things correctly maybe they could put out a statement about how ridiculous this is and shows the ongoing pattern of great decision making by the CAA leadership which is why we are leaving the conference.

After selling the once proud CAA into the dirt through expansion, the Commissioner apparently wants to sell its championship relevance too. What a joke. League has lost JMU, Delaware, Richmond - 3 battle hardened fixtures for years. The league is atrophying.

I’m hoping AD Hardt will speak up about this joke! It is very troubling to wonder if we’ll get any support from the Commissioner for the top eight seed.

Go Spiders!

No surprise - just like Danny Rocco's first year. Yankees pledge allegiance to Yankees.
Agree. The CAA has had it in for us for years. The robbery in 2012 involved legitimate Co-Champs and we were the ones left out!

We weren’t going to get much if any advocacy from CAA but I get that w the departure. & that over the top speech from a league commissioner in URI locker room doubles down on it.

You’d expect it from Hardt but he’s not good at it. Not a lot of pull out there from what I’ve heard.

There is really no reason Incarnate Word out of #8 league Southland should get a bye seed over Richmond of #2 league CAA.

We are all UR grads. We ain't stupid. We know BS when we see it it and this is pure BS.

Fortunately, believe the whole FCS universe sees this as well. Sour grapes from the CAA for our departure. It is obvious.

Here is Rhode Island's understanding as of 5 days ago. What changed?

Here is the update and a correction to my first post regarding tiebreakers.

Richmond: Clinches at least a share of the CAA title and Auto-Bid from the conference regardless of their final game vs William and Mary. Win and they are sole CAA Champs.

Rhode Island: Firmly in 2nd place. Win at Bryant to secure at least second place or CAA Co-Champs with a Richmond loss. In strong position for an at-large playoff bid.

Stony Brook: Eliminated from title with loss to NH. Win this last game vs. Monmouth to keep hopes alive for a playoff bid.

Villanova: Eliminated from title with loss to Monmouth. Win this last game vs. Delaware for a chance at a playoff bid.

I was mistaken in my first post regarding tie-break games for the auto-bid. If no head-to-head matchup, they look at ALL common conference opponents. Both teams beat Campbell and Hampton but Richmond beat Delaware while Rhode Island lost giving them the edge on the tie breaker (They will also have a mutual opponent in Bryant by the end of the season but it does not matter at this point.)

I could really care less about being the undisputed CAA Champion except for promoting UR as an undefeated conference champion gives us a lot more relevance on the national scene. As long as we get the top 8 seed I will be satisfied. We all know we are the real champions but this team is hungry for more and that bye means a lot moving forward.
