Thanks for the reminder, Mo. While most UR teams continue to have success and it appears our basketball team has turned the corner, IMHO we are loyal alumni first and hopefully generous contributors to our special university. Roll Spide! OSC

Bump. I think the donor level for hoops parking is a $200.00 donation. A mere pittance to support our Spiders.

Mo, are the goals top secret, or did I just miss them when they were announced, or published...

I don't recall ever being aware of what the Spider Club's fund raising goals are, or have been...sometimes in fund raising, making the goals public helps motivate both the potential donors and the organization making the appeal...

years ago there was a "funds raised v. goal" progress thermometer in the sanctuary of a church I attended...the minister pointed it and reminded the potential donors every Sunday...

The important thing is to give something. A good friend who is a Randolph Macon alumnus said they were approaching 40% participation from their alumni. Believe we have been around 25-27% participation. OSC

From what I understand, the goals aren't published, per se, but the SC folks are open about them. The goals this year were roughly 3k donors and $1.8m. It sounds like we may fall just short of the prior but exceed the latter.

For what it's worth, I believe the Spider Club is outpacing the University as a whole. We are fortunate to have AV and JC.

Parking pass is a no brainier. Most valuable thing offered. Without the pass Basketball parking is a pain in the rear, especially when it's 20 degrees out.

Football is getting my money up front this year. I'm giving up my basketball tickets until they show me something.

8, let me get this straight. You are a Spider Fan? Your basketball team finishes with a 500 record and you are going to stop attending games?

I disagree with just about everything you say, but I applaud your action. Not happy, show them with your wallet. I hope Hoops shows you show something and you decide to come back

R&B, the Ulla is with you. Be a loyal alumnus and support your alma mater. Winning is great, but my love of UR, where I got my BA and had experiences that set the course of my life, is so much more important to me. Best wishes to 8, hope to see you at the football games. OSC

Football parking pass in X Lot is $100 if you "front loading" with football or whatever you call it.

8, you did it backwards. you should have sat out last year and came back now. this is a more interesting team. I'd personally watch every chance possible just to see TJ finish his career. love that guy. SDJ too. add all the newcomers, an expanded role for Khwan, and the possibility PF breaks out ... too much fun coming up this season.

I didn't say I wasn't going to attend basketball games – I'm giving up my season tickets, however, and I'm not just blindly dropping more money into the athletic department until its primary sport shows me something. I've invested too much for no return for a number of years now. I will buy individual tickets to basketball when I can attend, and I will renew my football season tickets, because the football team continues to trend upward. I made my decision this year as it relates to basketball and Spider Club, and I'm sticking to it.

ah. then that makes sense. hopefully basketball earns everyone's faith again.

Does the term " Fairweather Fan" fit anyone here?
If you're referring to me, no, that term is about as far from accurate as it could be. I have invested way too much time, money and energy for 20 years in Spider basketball to be called fairweather. But this past season was the breaking point for me. Five years without a tourney berth after everything we've invested financially into the program is unacceptable. I've made my voice heard here, to the people in charge and to others. I am voting with my wallet now.

If all of us who are upset simply continue to buy season tickets and give to the Spider Club as if nothing is wrong, how upset are we with the product, really? Where is the university's motivation to do better? If we sold 3,500 season tickets last year (no idea, just using a random number) and Keith Gill got angry letters from 1,000 of those people but then all 3,500 renewed their season tickets this year, what's he supposed to think? If I were him I'd think all those people were big talkers and nothing more. There'd be no urgency to make any chances. But if all 1,000 who wrote letters decided not to renew their season tickets, I bet that would grab his attention fast.

I think the basketball team will be better this year than last year, no doubt. I will attend a lot of games. But I think the athletic department deserves to sweat it out this year and earn our attendance, rather than just have us all plunk down the same money we always do. Just my opinion, hence my decision.

maybe Mooney deserves to sweat. this group of kids, though? I don't think so. TJ in particular deserves to play in front of a packed house every night. kid gives everything he's got. always.

I don't disagree, spiderman. This is just how I choose to make my point. If everyone who normally buys season tickets instead just bought tickets to every game individually this year, maybe waiting until a few days before each game, I guarantee that the athletic department would get the message loud and clear.

I run a business. If all my best customers who are on annual contracts right now suddenly decided to go month-to-month, you damn well better believe I would wonder what was up, I would spend even more time working with each one of them, etc., because I would know that tomorrow wasn't guaranteed. If I had gotten fat and happy before, I sure wouldn't be any more.

I agree that could get their attention.
I'm in a more optimistic place because we landed DMB, Sherod, Golden, Godwin and Schneider. I don't know if that was a renewed commitment or just luck, but I think we're headed in the right direction. need to keep the momentum going now.

Great job hijacking a thread about giving money to support our student athletes, everyone!

Because a .500 record with a senior laden team is the goal of every program. Do we get to hang a banner for that as well? I know we couldn't hang the Kenpom Top 100 banner this year, but perhaps a .500 record banner will look just as good in the rafters. I bet we can get it outlined in gold and everything.

I'm so done with last year. I'd be cynical too if I wasn't feeling so good about the last 5 recruits. I don't like where we were, but I love where I think we are.
