Something on your chest? Post here.

Also, I flew down to Richmond for 1 game this year. And there were no god damn hot dogs at the game. Beyond unacceptable. How can I sell the gf on going to Richmond basketball if I can’t even get her a hot dog during the game. If we’re not going to be good on the court, at least be good off of it.

My favorite one on the thread. Get the man a warm hot dog!!!

One last thing:

NBCSports or CBSSports or anyone else who is broadcasting one of our games, please do some research on our players/team. Stop mailing it in. The amount of time they get players names wrong is ridiculous. Also, have more than 1 fun fact about the team for the season. Last year I must have heard that Nancy Lieberman was TJC’s mom about 500 times. This year, I must’ve heard Kwan has a 48 inch vertical about 400 times. Those are great things to know, but have more, especially when you’re broadcasting multiple games (looking at you nbcsports).

Dig deeper, find trends in the season. Hell, it would’ve been cool had you mentioned gilyard set a school record for steals last night. Nope, just Kwan is super athletic and has a 48 inch vertical...

I thought I read somewhere that he set the steels record...

The hot dogs were present at 100% of home games and were good 93% of the time. No complaints there, but I understand your pain.

The gf went searching for them and couldn’t find them (granted, she is a BC grad...). Only could find 43% stale popcorn and pizza. Is there a secret hot dog spot? Does Ulla hide them on his ranch?!?! Were they missing because Ulla lost the ranch?!?!

These are the important questions we need answered!!

Truth# 1: EVERYONE on this site wants to see the Spiders win. Cannibalizing another fan because they have the guts to speak what they see as the truth is nothing more than a veiled attempt at censorship. The goal of that type of comment is to shame, embarrass, and marginalize another fan. It is pathetic really, and shows weakness not strength.

Truth # 2: The Spider basketball program is mediocre AT BEST. Yes, the Spiders win slightly more than 1-2 games. Yes, they finish in the middle of the pack most years. Yes, occasionally they are a little bit better than the norm. Yes, every season has not been as bad as this one. BUT, 2 NCAA's in 13 years is plainly not getting it done. The performance of the basketball program is unacceptable to most sports fans.

Truth # 3: The conditions to WIN and WIN BIG are in place at Richmond. The salary of the coach is enough to attract and keep a much higher performer. The basketball reputation (especially in the past) is such that we should be able to recruit players who can win at a high level. In fact quite a few exceptional players (though not enough) have been here under Mooney. The facilities (arena) are top notch (improved with the practice facility). The A-10 is a league that can attract top players AND provide multiple bids to the tournament. The reputation of the school is well above average. The city is a desirable destination town.

Truth # 4: There have been quite a few teams in the Mooney era who COULD have made the NCAA tournament but did not. This is obviously an opinion, but those who know basketball (here and elsewhere) can confirm the thought. Those who know basketball KNOW that Mooney has quite a few fatal flaws as a coach. These flaws have been addressed on this forum repeatedly so I will not rehash. His flaws are basketball truisms, not just some wild ass opinions of a hand full of big mouths. Because of these flaws, Mooney will NEVER be a coach capable of taking this program where we want it to be. This understanding is proven as a fact over the thirteen year (14 if you include his mediocre season at Air Force) sample size.

Truth # 5: Those on this forum who are adamant about Mooney being released DO NOT hate Mooney as a person (at least so far as I know). The comments on this forum are directed at his inability to achieve at the desired level. Nothing more, nothing less.

In summary, Truths 1-5 are the reasons that so many are demanding change. We will be better off if a large sample size on this board demonstrates a thicker skin when someone says something with which they disagree. It is too often arrogant and thin skinned ridiculousness. We have different experiences and perspectives, thus we have different opinions. If we listen respectfully, we might learn something. VT and fatherspider are perfect examples of this point. Many here don't like the way in which they express their views (which is your right), but like the rest of us, they are correct at least as much as they are wrong.

The calls for Mooney's scalp are not personal. The snide name calling, questioning of fan credentials, and arrogant responses to those who issue the calls shouldn't be personal either.

The height of frustration! I feel you!

Scratched my head the day Mooney was hired. Didn't like the hire that day. I really wanted him to succeed because he is a good representative/ambassador for the school. Hated his defense from day 1 even through the good years. I didn't like the fact that his teams play "basketball lite." He/his teams ignore so many of the fundamentals/details needed to be a good team day in and day out. The passive attitude that permeates from him to his teams. (This years team had some fire.) I really hoped that he would evolve as a coach. He hasn't much. The offense has evolved some.

I still haven't gotten over his game plan for the Kansas NCAA game. He had his deepest, most athletic team and he goes full Princeton stall. Kansas got to play a practice walk through style of game. They got to walk back up the floor, turn around, reset their defense and wait for KA to restart the game. All that was missing was KA calling "BALL" to make sure everyone on the floor was ready to play. Then UR would go into the stupid weave. Kansas only had to play defense for about 10 seconds a trip. The rest of the time they could loaf and stand there with their hands on their hips. On the offensive end, that Morningstar? kid drained most if not all of his 3 pointers from the same 2-3ft. circle. No adjustments on defense to at least make him move around some. That turned out to the be perfect scouting report for the team across town on how not to play Kansas.

The worst part about the whole situation is that the defensive scheme is about the same as it was that year. Mooney cannot come up with something fresh/tweaked that will result in an improvement. He keeps sticking with it. It will end up costing him his job.

I am curious why those who perpetrate the bolded sections on Father & VT should be held to account for their actions but Father & VT shouldn’t be held to account when they perpetrate the bolded sections on others?

Here’s something. What the F was the deal with Solly? We wasted a scholarship for 2 years on a kid who quit the team in season.

Was he that bad? Did we just whiff on that? How the hell was TJ so off on him?

I thought he was the key to this season b/c we needed a bigger player in the lineup and he didn’t give us a damn thing.

Who knows what really happened there. I know he was well liked by the team.

SpiderRick lost it a long time ago. There, I said it.

Wow, right out the chute, I am the subject of the first rant of this thread, what an honor! AS, my wife couldn't agree with you more........actually, I kinda agree with you too sometimes..

I don't have much to rant about, I've already done my damage. But two suggestions:

1. RC concessions needs a deep fryer like the RS has, for those of us who enjoy the feeling of arteries clogging. And I also agree with Nathan about the lousy hot dogs, God those are gas station hot dogs for crying out loud. And when a guy named Nathan is talking hot dogs, we ALL need to listen.

2. Somebody has to develop a virtual Breathalyzer that automatically turns on when someone logs on after a Spider loss to prevent episodes like I had last night.

As for you guys, I love all you mother****ers..............

I'm mad there's actual tangible evidence that players have talked about transferring, that tells me that not only does Coach habitually suck at recruiting that the atmosphere of mediocrity/losing that he's set up is turning existing talent off.

But as always I can't stand him as a coach and haven't for what will be season 5 next season since he hasn't been fired yet I assume he won't be. 100 bucks says neither of the 3 redshirts contributes in any meaningful way all next season.

Oh and channel some Coach Huesman, if you're mad at the performance of the team let the team and fans know it, god at least when he was new and getting T'd up all the time he had emotion. He's a full on robot during games.

Also I found it interesting that Mark Schmidt has the same winning percentage as Mooney in his entire career (about 40 games above .500). Guess there's another coach in conference better than him.

Oh and stop censoring posters, there's no reason for it unless they're profanity laced or racist lunacy. That's the motus operandi of communist dictatorships.

Yes I think I had same questions . Are the practice times hard in evaluating ? I remember I think Giddings . I think , he knows all of pivot moves so he looks good defense in practice and his substitute could have no surprises

40% of players leave their first school by their sophomore year. This is just a fact of life in college basketball right now. It stinks, but chances are a school will have about 2 transfers per year - whether you are Duke or Delaware St. or something in between.

Not a homer, well said. Send that petition around for spidernation to sign and send into Hardt.
Agree. Not a homer had one of the best posts in this thread - spot on. Maybe we need to get him a job in the AD's office to bring some perspective and a reality check to the lapdog mentality surrounding the program.

You know, this one has bothered me as well. I saw a few practices, where I came away impressed. Perhaps he just wasn't a game-day player? I was thinking the ODU game could have been his launching point, but man, what a disappointment that was.

And Mooney thought enough of him to start him to kick off the season. It doesn’t make much sense.

How did he look in practice? Any good in an organized offense? He seemed more suited to a helter skelter one. On defense he did seem good at patrolling passing lanes.

I thought Solly looked good in practice. He was active and went for rebounds and shot the ball well. Some how he got in Mooney’s no hand shake dog house.

My only Rant is you guys beat us twice this season! I enjoy reading this board and mostly u guys are pretty cool except for Ulla and VT.

Great 2nd half of the season spiders. You all are gonna be top 3 next season. And your best fan is @BillyWayne - he is both a great fan and person!!

Tired of all the speculation about our players transferring there is no need to try and build evidence as to cause to fire our coach. Forget both of those threads. Our coach will be here next year as well as all of our contributing players. Stitch your wounds and let them heal and root for a great year coming up. If that does not happen then we will not have to push for a change it will happen !

Nathanw19. You must have been there on $1.00 hot dog night. You have to get there like 2 hours before tip off to get one before they sell out.

Back to original point of the thread, if we’ve had the decision that the most important things are a decent gameday atmosphere with a couple of local kids playing significant minutes and we have a nice guy coach, can we just come out and say that and pay Mooney about half as much?

We can win here with the right coach. Mooney is a nice guy but after 13 years it’s time for a change and he’s proven he won’t change. Everyone needs to adapt and especially someone leading college students. Life is about adapting to improve.

I think Mooney needs to hire an old guy advisor. He needs older input . He makes enough , Some oldtime fart would take 50grand easy to be an advisor, money well spent

You may be talking about Tarrant, but COACHFEZZ fits the bill perfectly. I love me some Coachfezz!

BTW I loved the Coachfezz parity, why was it deleted? I think Fezz would have loved it too but probably didn't get to read it.

I just hate the time we live in, that everything has to be so politically correct and God forbid someone gets offended over a few works obviously said in jest.
