Drop an F bomb, call me a pansy, tell Mooney to suck an egg, question Hardt's decision to raise soda prices by a penny, curse the red jerseys, etc. Get your frustrations out before the off-season, yell at another poster, etc.

I'm going to keep this thread open until next weekend and then delete it. It's been a rough year. Let's vent, recharge the batteries and start planning for some football tailgates.

Love the thread idea but it's sort of pointless unless we have VT back. Can we enable him to post on this thread but prohibit him from doing anything else?

Here's something else I want to get off my chest. I used to love how Webspinner and iSpider just went over to the Off Topic Board and neutralized each other. Now I sort of miss both of them.

I also found iSpider's grenade throwing a Bob Black earlier this season a whole lot funnier than I probably should have.

Here's one last thing I need to get off my chest for the night. I could probably have found a way to be OK with this season if we went 13-19 with the Delaware game being flipped from a loss to a win.

Because of my personal animosity towards Delaware, I was done with this season at halftime of the home opener. We could go to the NCAA the next two seasons and I would not forgive our staff for the Delaware debacle.

I just wish our fanbase as a whole and the powers that be in the athletic department and university actually cared more passionately about winning. It's my greatest frustration as a Spiders fan. Too many people associated with this program have an inferiority complex. We have a damn leadership program in our university. Someone needs to start leading.

Agree. Our University has a leadership school but is devoid of leaders. The leadership school just churns out a bunch of management consultants that go work on fat government contracts around the beltway. F Jepson.

I’m just sick of being the program that competes and doesn’t actually win big games. It’s been a f-ing lifetime since 2011.

The things we need change: Get rid of Ivan on the radio. Actually ask real questions during the postgame. This isnt the boys club. I havent seen anyone that will ask "whats going on with bench production"?

We are young and inexperienced thats the expression that never ends.

Also what goal should have next year. And are we going to hold anyone accountable for not reaching that goal. We SHOULD win 17 games next year at a minimum. And we SHOULD be in top 4 of the conference next year. However, until real leadership shows up NOTHING changes.

And I dont wanna hear how great every practice was. I want to hear how we are going to improve the defense and actually get production from the bench.

And lets actually get fans in the seats NOT a bunch of middle schoolers.

Bingo. There is no reason we can’t win big. You can have a great academics and win basketball games. Football embraces the “best of both worlds” theme. Why can’t basketball? NO MORE EXCUSES.

I think the players understand what it takes in prepare their game during the off season . Coach knows he has to think about player choices early this season and how was wrong . How practice playing some way did not trun into game time . But I NEED him to work on out of bounds underneath . Teams should have to waste prepare time defending it. Ugly out of bounds ugly. But I think excellent coaching in tournament

Football also plays FCS. Not disparaging the team. Just that there’s a difference.

GO, I kinda like the younger fans making a lot of noise at awkward times. When we screwed up, I could scream and cuss and no one could hear.

Perfectly stated for me! And regardless if better or worse comes from it, the Spiders would have a new coach.

The Sticky Situation sucks. It's sad when we see screen shots of bands like Dayton and even the Bonnies and they're made up of STUDENTS when all we have are a bunch of 30ish stoner dudes who probably went to VCU. That is more frustrating than losing games or losing a good coach. They don't give a toss. Hardt? Crutcher? QUEALLY? It's really disheartening to see Crutcher not do anything...the guy is music for God's sake.

Bonnies didn't have a band. They put GW's band in white Bonnie shirts.

I missed a couple home games because I didn't know we were playing. Apathy at its worst. That's the best way I can describe my feelings toward this season.

I don't feel enough is demanded of our athletic program success, thus our athletic department is
soft and complacent. Athletics and academics need each other, and more prominent our athletic
success stories are out front in the media, the more future students learn of our school.

This thread started way too late at night..............but agree with 64 that we need accountability. It should be clear what the goals are ...number of wins....how often we make the NCAA tournament and if the goals are not met a coaching change is made. Why do we pay our coach such a huge amount of money for such mediocre results? We could hire a different coach for much less money and have the same results. What we are doing is the height of illogical...................

NO STATED GOALS!!!!! NO ACCOUNTABILITY!!!!!! WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR !!!!!!!
I just added up what I have paid since 2011 for the above and I think I've become a fiscally irresponsible idiot.

Would have "liked" your post but then I would have been calling you a "fiscally irresponsible idiot" so I am "liking" the first part of your post. I will leave it up to your wife to call you the second part....................

Ok, here goes nothing...

I hate Mooney smiling and laughing with players right before the game. If you aren’t taking it seriously, why should they? There’s a time to be loose and laughing and there is a time to be intense. You don’t see coach K or Roy Williams cracking a joke 30 seconds before tip.

Mooney, please learn how to be more flexible in your game plan. You’ve evolved your offense over 13 years (slightly), maybe do the same on the other side of the ball. Or when something isn’t working, ****ing change and adjust.

Someone learn how to recruit, every year. No years off. There’s no reason we should have only 6-7 players who can reasonably compete at an d-1 level, Nevermind A-10 or OOC.

Hardt, have a spine and openly say 12-19 is beyond unacceptable. No excuses. If that means showing Mooney the door, then so be it. Goodwill, second most wins in school history, and being an all round “good guy” doesn’t mean shit. We want wins, championships, and dancing in March.

Everyone stop with the idea that money should ever be a reason for Richmond to make a decision. If there’s something Richmond has too much of, its money. It’s a weak excuse. Excuses are like assholes, we all have them and they all stink.

GG, learn how to shoot a 3 or stop taking them.

Buck and Sherrod, stop floating through half the game. Buck is either balls out or way too causal. No in between. Sherrod just takes time off during the game, and when it doesn’t go well early, disappears even more. Both are too good to not be influential every game, throughout the entire game.

Gilyard, never ever leave us...

Also, I flew down to Richmond for 1 game this year. And there were no god damn hot dogs at the game. Beyond unacceptable. How can I sell the gf on going to Richmond basketball if I can’t even get her a hot dog during the game. If we’re not going to be good on the court, at least be good off of it.

There is a ton of anger towards Mooney, and rightfully so; he hasn't taken us to the NCAAs in a long time. He has not demonstrated the ability to build and maintain a program that can make the NCAA tournament on a regular basis, and that is reason enough to fire him. However, people call out Mooney for the wrong reasons all the time and it really annoys me. For example:

Time outs don't stop runs. They just don't. Every decent study that has ever been done on the subject agrees, the results are conclusive, it doesn't work. This is understood by many great coaches including Roy Williams, Greg Marshall and others. Saving timeouts for the end of the game or when a player is trapped is much more important.

Those bench players you fixate on really do not deserve more playing time. They are not good. Getting them more in-game experience will not make them A10 level players. There is not a coach in the country that will make them A10 level players. Mooney's failure is not his inability to develop or utilize these players, but that his recruiting was so bad he had to take these guys in the first place.

Rebounding is not the end-all be-all of defense. It isn't even close to the most important aspect of defense. We were an above average defensive rebounding team this year, and by far the best rebounding team Mooney has ever had, yet we were absolutely horrible defensively overall. I would rather us be 250th+ in rebounding again and an actually good defensive team than 150th (like this year) and just be horrible defensively (like this year).

Not everything that goes wrong is Mooney's fault. Not everything that goes right happens despite Mooney.

F*** this thread. I am stuck in Blacksburg for the weekend. I would like to repay Junior Shields for all the thread-crapping he does by taking a dump in his dorm.

its not a choice of either A) Play defense or B) rebound. Rebounding is the end of a successful defensive sequence. If you don't rebound after playing good D and forcing a miss - then that is not a good defensive sequence.

The bench player fixation is easily fixed by not striking out in recruiting so often. Again, a Mooney caused problem. He is the head man making the big bucks. It all flows to him.
