Certainly easier to commit to guarding the three-point line when the other team needs a three.

The dude can shoot it well from deep in general, so that was definitely a poor shot. I'm pretty convinced he either lost track of the clock and made a premature desperation heave without getting set or he was trying to get a shooting foul.

I thought we did a good job contesting most of their perimeter shots. Jimerson and Perkins hit some tough ones.

Really thought Mite or SFspidur would have this stat. Underwhelmed. But Big Swinging Peter is 1-0. Hope he didn't find the baby in the cake.

There were still 12 seconds left, so if it was a legit attempt, it was way too early. If he'd made it we still would have had a good amount of time to come back down for a game-winning attempt.

I mean I guess it sort of worked out in that they had time for another chance or two after his miss, but they had plenty of time to try to find a better shot without him jacking it up. But again, maybe they were just really trying to avoid going to the line for two when they needed a three.

I think he rushed that last attempt - maybe the foul issue crept in his mind. But you also don't want to wait until last second to take that shot because many times in that situation, especially with our poor rebounding - you can take the shot with 10 seconds, and either get the rebound and kick it out - or rebound bounces out and that is where you get the best look. But waiting until last second - you lose that opportunity.

Okay, now that I've been called out...

We're 9–12 all-time on Fat Tuesday. It used to happen more frequently in the past when games were kind of randomly scheduled, but it's been less frequent in recent years as mid-week games have been more commonly scheduled on Wednesdays.

That said, we did play on Mardi Gras just last year when we lost to Dayton on March 1. Prior to that was February 13, 2018, when we lost at #16 URI, and then you have to go back to 2001 when we blew out VCU in their gym.

Anyway, I thought Gibson Jimerson was an alias for Jimmer Fredette...

really nice work. Richmond is more Baptist than Catholic so perhaps an appropriate record. And btw great win by John Beilein, an earnest Catholic.

Pleased with the victory. The game plan seemed to be “shoot from outside the ARC as often as you can.”

I guess that plan worked. Good job Pete.
 
I went back and watched the game online and this was something that I hadn't realized being there in person. Really an impressive comeback...probably one for the ages!
