Today has been an emotional one for me as the beauty and absurdity of our collective intensity for sports yields to the reality of life. Hope we can pack Robins to support Coach and the players this year and in prior years who care about him deeply. Beat SLU.

I really miss @flyder19 writeups. Of course I do know that Yuri Collins is the key for SLU and I must say I am happy that the Spiders won’t see Fred Thatch. Goose will likely draw the Jimerson assignment. Hopefully we see a full student section and a solid weeknight crowd. Go Spiders!

Spiders come out of the gate and grab early lead. They seem to have rallied around Mooney and interim coach PT. Quinn goes for 12 points in first half, Roche knocks down 2 three pointers, Grace shows signs of MFG and Burton throws down monster jam to get crowd going.

2nd half - we hit our usual scoring drought and go 6 minutes without a bucket. Close game, but Spiders lose it at the end.

Eight coming in strong. If Mooney were still at the helm, I would be predicting a loss because SLU is just a better team and we don't beat better teams. PT taking the helm and maybe players responding to Mooney's absence might throw a variable in this game that is hard to predict. If I could bet on this game, I would slam SLU at even money. We are 1-9 in our last 10 against the spread.

yeah I thought we'd be a small dog. Esp with all our trends - arrow pointing way down. I think the smart play here would be SLU at even $ value. Of course we can win that's sports & that's vegas.

ATS is a crazy looking graph

Started 5-1 by a Total Net 11.5
Then 2-3 (2 by 44, 3 by 52.5)
Then 3-3 by a Total Net 9
Now 1-9 (1 by 5.5, 9 by 72)

At least we are not Ohio St. In the last 14 games they were predicted 7-7 and are 1-13...

I don't know what effect recent developments will have, but I have been watching Spider basketball long enough to know that we almost always come out of a break (exams, holidays, bye week) flat to start the game. So there is that trend as well.

Peter has been out on the floor while the team is warming up. That’s a difference with Mooney.
 
Being STL PK/-1 for me shows the weakness of A10 this season. Spiders probably worse than expected and Billikens not living up to preseason hype. LOL looking quickly two sites preseason predicted being #27 and #30. If both teams playing as expected thinking STL being a -3, 4, 5 fav.

And back to the much talked about TO situation last game at almost 5 minutes. Plenty of coaches I see call that TO when say going up 2, 4, 6 but usually done at around 1-2 minute mark. I see it as good to remind players of defense strategy with only a few possessions left. When called at 4-5 minutes yes might get stop on defense but still plenty of possessions that score or no bucket not as crucial.

About 4200 in attendance. 150 students. Mooney’s family is a no show.
