Roussell has some work to do

Again, call me delusional but tell me why UR isn’t able to offer a competitive NIL with P5s especially in WBB where the overall monetary offers are significantly less than it is for MBB? What do you think her agent will ask for coming from Patriot league, not a top 100 recruit, and being 1 of nearly a 1000 players in the portal (supply & demand)? My guess is between $100-200K/yr. If Roussell thinks she is someone who will make an immediate high impact on our team next year, I would hope UR can provide that money. The ROI we would get from this will be well worth it.
IDK, but Oklahoma supposedly just offered some big-name women's recruit $1.5 million. That's totally insane but that's the way the game is being played these days.

We’re never getting those kinds of players or at least not any time soon. I really believe that if Roussell sat down with Hardt & Hallock and said I need X amount of money this year to reasonably get the players needed to at the very least replicate these past 2 years performance if not exceed it, they will happily oblige. Roussell has proven that he can do a lot with fewer resources, so he 100% earned the opportunity to showcase what he can do with more resources.

Sofilkanich from Bucknell and Ziegler from St. Joe’s are certainly players that will move the needle for the team but won’t be nearly the amount that other big name players are requesting. Not saying we are recruiting them or will land them, but these are the caliber of players who will rightfully garner more NIL but not enough that it’ll break the bank. They will also certainly help us reach our next goals as a program too. At the end of the day, my opinion is that we should devote $750K-1 million to NIL per year for WBB to continue performing at this level or better.

The thing is Richmond would do better on its own merits than most schools if NIL was not infecting college basketball. Roussell instills team spirit and Spider pride, and that's why I'm still hanging around for now. But it likely all will eventually be lost and the joys of making a 1000+ mile journey with my kids to support MY team in the NCAAs will likely be a distant memory - NOT because we aren't in the NCAAs (we still will be) but because it will mean nothing if the players don't want to be part of our Spider family and are only chasing money.

It's good we seem to be willing to put the money into it because we have to in order to compete, but the game has been forever corrupted. Once I sense Spider pride by the players is gone, I'm out.

It is extremely important we keep Roussell in order to keep Spider pride alive as much as possible.

I think u r confusing NIL and revenue sharing. we r paying rev share. how much who knows. but I think the NIL available to womens Richmond basketball is NIL. As in zero.

NIL is third party. The schools is rev share. what u r asking UR to devote would be rev share. we have no ability to compete with big school NIL. Let's hope it's legit and not a way to cirmumvent the rev share cap. Supposedly has to be legit NIL not fake NIL like we have now but I seriously doubt it will all be legit.

The Oklahoma girl is #1 recruit in country but she's not getting that $ from rev share. It's from third party NIL.

Yes, I am all lumping it all as NIL for simplicity. You’re right that there is a difference. Whether it’s revenue sharing or coming from a collective (which we don’t have one for WBB) doesn’t matter at the end day practically, as it’s all just “extra” income that the student athlete would be receiving on top of the scholarship. Since we don’t have a NIL collective for WBB then revenue sharing from UR will have to do all the work. I might be wrong, but my understanding is that NCAA is capping the revenue sharing at ~$20 million. P5 schools are using the majority of that for football. But there’s no rule that says how the school can split that revenue sharing among sports. So for me, I hope UR is willing to give $750K-1 million for WBB. For men’s basketball, hopefully between $2-3 million like other A10 schools, but I have no inside information.

I'm not sure if "possible landing spots" means actual interest from us or not, but here's a 6'5" big out of Michigan (previously at MTSU)...

Given the stature of the WBB and MBB right now and for next year, it would make a ton of sense to allot a larger proportion to the women's team next year.

If there are folks within our athletic administration that would like to move on from Mooney but our prevented from doing so by Queally, we may have a little more power internally now that we are paying players directly vs. Queally and his NIL bros. Just slide a little bit more over to the women's team, I mean hey we have to keep a potential first team all American, right. Shoot the NIL bros might be on board considering Mooney p*ssed all of their dollars away this year on an 8 win team.

I’m with you. Let’s go all in on women’s basketball. We know Roussell will maximize whatever money the school gives and at the end of the day $1 million isn’t that much for UR and we will get tremendous exposure in WBB that continues to grow nationally and ROI.

Washington and BYU in the mix.
