Assuming no more surprises, the roster is now set for next season. Here is the composition as I see it.

Guards (4): Gilyard, JJ, Wojcik, Gustavson, (Francis transfer redshirt)
Wings (4): Sherod, Yates, Verbinskis, Schneider
Forwards (4): Golden, Cayo, Sal, Grace

Very balanced positionally.

Seniors (1): JJ
Juniors (2): Sherod, Yates
Sophomores (4): Golden, Gilyard, Cayo, Francis
Freshmen (6): Verbinskis, Schneider, Wojcik, Gustavson, Sal, Grace

Somewhat bottom heavy in terms of classes.

It will be interesting to see who breaks into the starting lineup with Gilyard, Sherod and Golden next year.

No true backup PG this year though, probably the most glaring question mark. The biggest hole to fill is still at SG as I see it. Unless Nick has a bunch of backcourt moves yet unseen, I think it's going to be one of the new guys at SG.

I believe Gustavson is the backup PG.

JJ is our starting 2 guard, anyone actually think one of the new guys will beat him out? Also, at least 2 of the freshman will obviously redshirt.

How about the grad transfer from Yale who just committed, Noah Yates. Wondering where he'll fit in all this.

I absolutely think someone can beat out JJ as a SG. I like JJ, but he is not a primary or secondary ballhandler which I think precludes him from playing consistent minutes at 2. If he shows he's got a handle, I'll revise my opinion.

I think we're in a world of hurt ball-handling wise when Gilyard is out of the game.

If Jacob gets hurt and misses time, yes, that could mean trouble, but no worries about a few minutes here and there while he is resting.

I didn't see where Gustavson had played PG, but if so, that's good to hear. No one else on the roster really projected as a PG to my knowledge.

A true combination guard, Gustavson said when he’s at his best he’s impacting the game across the board.

“I’m everywhere,” he said. “I stop my player defensively. I find every player. I like scoring a lot and if the defense collapses on me then I find them.”

If JJ as a senior (in the system for 4 years) can not beat out the remaining and incoming competition(which is questionable) then the you have to blame the coaching staff for a "recruiting miss)" 4 years ago.

I disagree. I consider a miss someone like PF, who is here 4 years and has no impact (on the court). JJ, while not a home run, is a solid single. He’s a role player, and serviceable in a particular role. Every recruit can’t be a starter/Star.

To me, if JJ beats out the incoming competition (by the end of the season, as Mooney favors experience especially early), then I think you have to blame the coaching staff for not bringing in enough talent this year. We know what JJ is (unless he improves mightily this off season), and it’s not an A-10 starter. I’m looking for someone like Woj to be a starter by mid to end of season (if not earlier).

I can see going to battle with: Gilyard, Golden, Sherod, Cayo, JJ, Yates, Wojcik and Kouressi. If either Schneider or Verbinskis forces their way into there, even better.

I think that is a competitive team in next year's A-10.

I remember Mooney saying JJ was his top priority for that recruiting year. I love what JJ brings, but if your top target in a given year ends up a role player, that’s not great.

Of course, then you look at who else we brought in that year...

I think this is something for a problem . I never like do not worry about it thinking.

I remember as a small child sometimes my big father did not have any work. He would say if you are hungry eat some bread.

Mr VT what do you think for our style of defense ?

Coachfezz - What country did you grow up in ? That is some very intersesting and strange sentence structure you are using! Eastern Europe, maybe?

Don’t discount Oddo for ‘18-19! Jake 2.0!?!
I agree, we are going to see more of Oddo than many expect. He has run the opposition offense for years and is one of the few that understands our offense. He does have a nice shot.

Somewhat bottom heavy? That’s a hell of an understatement. 10 of our 13 players are freshmen and sophomores.

Maybe he fills the Kirby role at backup PG? Kirby only gave 5 or so minutes a game anyways, I think Oddo could probably fill that to give Gilyard a quick breather

Gilyard is a dominant offensive force who has yet to let it all hang out. he restricted himself. losing Buck and Khwan SHOULD change that. no matter who fills those spots, Jacob should be much more aggressive offensively. I think he'll have an 18 ppg season.

a roster full of freshmen and sophomores. Haven't seen how they play on the floor. I could careless about a practice or scrimmage. Have three players that can score and play. Going to need someone to step up next year. Hopefully, someone develops and becomes useful from the bench.
