With our game with Fordham being postponed and Mason going on pause, Longwood is looking for a game on Saturday. Their game vs High Point was postponed due to the Panthers going on pause. Short trip and a D1 opponent. Thoughts?

I'm all in favor of a replacement game against a good opponent where a win helps us in some way. If this is the option, let's stay home.
I was looking at it as if at-large was already dead. Figured playing another D1 opponent could help keep us fresh if we don’t play again for a while.
This just would give Mooney another W to pad his record this year, which probably means we are going to play them because otherwise playing Longwood makes zero sense at all. Playing them would actually hurt our at large profile, which I know is basically dead anyway.
We’ve played the maximum ooc games allowed. Unless the NCAA has changed the rules for Covid which I don’t think they have it’s not even an option.
There's no specific limit on the number of OOC games, only total games. So as mentioned, we'd have to get the A-10's blessing and confirmation that not all postponed A-10 games would be made up.
SLU is getting it done, but they had an OOC slot still available.
JOC on the Longwood situation...we're mentioned as one of several regional programs they contacted but who said it couldn't even be considered since we'd played full OOC slate.

How is SLU and other teams able to work around this? Is Hardt in a food coma again?
SLU had a non-conference game against Drake canceled, so they have a slot free.

Think about this ..... Does Mooney have any solid networking connections with other coaches? I mean this guy knows that guy and friends with this guy etc. etc. He appears like an outsider to me. I'm thinking not often but how many times has he been in attendance at the Final Fours games extended weekend?
You want replacement games IMO it's up the head coach to get on the phone to get it done. Of course the AD might set but logistics but not the guy to start calling around. Except maybe looking for a St Mary's MD matchup. I believe Mooney's Spiders have never played an Ivy opponent.

Yes, he does. It's on record that we got the Loyola game last year because he's boys with Porter Moser. He's good friends with Ben Jacobson at Northern Iowa. And there have been other examples too.
But good point--they probably didn't think of calling around.
This whole thread is idiotic. You might as well be asking us to schedule the Harlem Globetrotters or the 1993 Bulls. WE MAXED OUT ON OOC GAMES, SO WE AREN'T GETTING ANOTHER OOC GAME.
What befuddles me is the whole UVA thing. Nice guy Tony Bennett has played every D-1 school in Virginia, including Hampton, Longwood, Liberty and Norfolk State. Except Richmond. WHY? We're 60 miles away, there are no travel issues. We have a decent basketball program. Yet they've never scheduled each other during the 12 years that Bennett has been at Virginia and Mooney's 17 years here. Since covid there have been occasions that both schools have looked for replacement games at the same time, but for some reason never thought about calling each other? There has to be some kind of underlying issue.
Mooney seems to be very well connected with other coaches and well respected by them. He and every other coach go to the Final Four stuff every year.
I know Mooney had a good relationship with Danny Manning. From what i hear That’s a big reason we were able to land Dji after he got fired from Wake and Manning helped facilitate that connection. Maybe spiderdad can confirm or deny.
I’ve heard pretty much all the A10 coaches love Mooney. He’s helped quite a few of them get raises when they compare their record to his.

I wasn't saying no one liked him. Of course A10 coaches like him but was thinking on a national level to get a replacement game. And EightL answered my question that he does attend every Final Four. Just don't understand how he can't work out a replacement game with some coach who's a friend but KneeP answered that too. Thanks for the responses.
He lacks the gravitas to get games with other coaches, get recruits, get his team to play defense and rebound. He just does, or doesn't depending on how you look at it.
Oh and for everyone, SDSU beat the number 20 team in the country by 30 last night. They played defnse and rebounded. Sorry haters!!!! Still probably will be a struggle to make the tourney but much better chances than mooniocrity.

Once more for those in the back…as it stands, we have no ability to schedule any replacement games. Everything is in the A-10’s hands.

Who is to say that the Spiders do not have a few Covid cases also. Didn't one of the redshirts have Covid?

This 9 day layoff will be the excuse Mooney needs to keep the administration from taking any action. Always deflecting. Always kicking the can down the road.
Right, But never mind, that St. Joes and St. Louis both came off of Covid layoffs against us and kicked our a**es. The excuse-o-meter is gonna be in full swing.
