Practicing

These guys want the chance to keep playing and I hope they get that opportunity.

The players have worked very hard and it's been an incredibly difficult season...that being said you get rewarded with more games based on the results of the season. We finished 8th in our conference, lost at home to #13 seed St. Joe's on Senior Night, and then bowed out in our first game of the A-10 tournament where we only had to travel a few miles away from home. At some point facts and results (or lack of) have consequences. Now, maybe not in the utopian bubble that our AD and administration live in but in the real world of NCAA bids and competitive athletics absolutely. Again, not an attack on our players...they played hard but we just didn't get results this year.

come on, man. they worked really hard for 4-5 years. you and I have sat on our asses to be entertained.
I know pride is a difficult thing for you to envision, given you accept whatever slop Mooney puts forth. But some people have some, I believe our players do. So, yeah, I don't think they are going to be all amped up to go play Cleveland State or North Carolina A&T in some third rate tournament.

Plus you do realize they aren't going to be galivanting around Paradise Island, rather bubbled up, spending most of their time in the hotel, trying not to catch COVID.

Just for the sake of contrast - Covid stopped the Duke run of being in the NCAA tournament every year since 94-95 season. Although many like to "hate on Duke" have to admit that is impressive. Why is private school Duke able to do that and private school Richmond has not made the tournament since 2010-11 school year? Does it have something to do with the administration, the Athletic Department, and the coach? (Alright that is a rhetorical question as we all know the answer)

We all say we want the same thing, which is success for the program and players. 97, you saying that the players wanting to play another game is them having no pride is an incredibly disappointing thing to hear you say.

These kids know they had a bad year. They’re hearing it. They witnessed first hand the SLU Covid debacle. So maybe they want to go out there and say f*** it let’s go out on a positive or die trying. These guys are competitors who have given their hearts (for Grant literally his heart) to college basketball. You diminishing that and thinking you know better is downright disrespectful.

I have seen no statement from any player on interest level in playing “post season” games. As far as I know the CBI is a pay to play tournament which is typically offset by ticket sales. Since there have been no fans allowed that would be a little tough. I also highly doubt the seniors want to play in an empty Robins Center again. Too bad the restrictions aren’t looser because if they were a tournament style game with fans could have been a senior send off.

In any case, the Spiders had their chances and weren’t able to deliver. The seniors definitely paid their dues and worked hard, but I certainly did not see any heroic effort in the last regular season game other than Cayo. I did not get to watch the Duquesne game (radio only), so I can’t comment on that one.

Was it the CBI that was going to have a Daytona Beach bubble?

They play in the ACC and we play in the A10.

It’s safe to say that we have little in common with Duke beyond both being private schools. It’s a bit of a fools errand starting any comparison there.

It’s really simple, success begets success in many things, including division 1 basketball. If we start assembling repeat 20-win seasons, then recruits will want to come here and we’ll get more 20-win seasons. Or so the logic goes.

These kids could probably run the table if Mooney stayed in the locker room. My biggest fear is that teams better than us get eliminated because of covid and the team manages to back in the NIT. Then our opponents drop out with positive tests, we win the NIT by default, and we hang the banner. Thereby getting Mooney another contract extension and a bonus.

My guess is if he gets a pass for laying a turd this year, he won’t get a prize for polishing said turd.

Everyone at duke understands the value of successful athletics to the university......

Don't see how we play in the CBI when the Spider Fund has been reaching out to cover the increased costs due to COVID - and with the CBI, I am pretty sure you have to pay an entry fee to play in it. I think when it was played on campus sites - it was 50K, I have to imagine that fee might have increased slightly due to COVID and playing in one location in a semi-bubble.

We (UR & Duke) both have long term coaches rewarded well. Now can we compare & contrast with parameters other than the first sentence?

So. we are going to give up chance for another banner to hang in the RC? Pay to play vs CBI banner. Man, that's a tough choice. Will probably have Hardt having to think through a lot of things.

As I recall, Mooney's agent is the same guy that runs the CBI. That's gotta be an active text string between them this weekend.

Do you roll the dice on the NIT or take the sure thing? Tough decision!!!

Listed as first four out for NIT or not listed at all in NIT bracketology. Might depend on how NCAA handles the Covid 4 standby teams. But the site linked says we are still "under some consideration" for NCAA tournament................(don't put any stock in it, just find it of interest) Scroll to the bottom to see Richmond

They've played in 6 bowls since we last made the NCAA tournament.
I’m not taking sides in this argument but any scenario where making a bowl defines success is pretty dubious. I mean you have to have a winning record but that’s barely one step beyond “competing”. Although I do love the name “Poulan Weed-eater Bowl”.
