Lol Juco’s still getting 4 years d1. I’ve been saying this for a couple years on bball board, only half jokingly, but the next wall to fall is eligibility. Meaning there will be no more eligibility rules. Nobody to enforce. Play as long as u want. Etc.

There is 1 way to fix some of this nonsense imo. Tax exempt status. Tax em’ & they’ll backpedal fast. Why r they tax exempt? Education. If this is now pro sports with pay & no rules that’s gone. At an absolute minimum athletic departments should be paying taxes.

It will end, when schools treat athletes as employees. At that point, Universities will have to provide health insurance, workers comp, pensions and disability income for athletes. Imagine an employed football player has a debilitating injury, leaving him crippled for life. Imagine also a football player is found to have a traumatic brain injury, 20 years later. Schools will have to pick up the bill for all of this.
Right now, schools reap the rewards in revenue, but shoulder none of the costs to the players.

Me thinks that we’ll be losing position coaches given the present state of the program.

Better to get out of Dodge with an 8-0 CAA record on your resume given what’s in store for 2025.

For what its worth, I haven't heard a single portaled kid mention PL as a reason. Most hope to move up and get NIL money... (did we appreciate the value of a degree like UR at 22 years old)? Some have other reasons (including personal reasons not discussed here). Its possible we even take a few back. Given our relative success vs peers, I don't think the portal hit is such a surprise. I'm optimistic that our strong recruiting classes, a few transfers in, plus the rest of the returners from a repeat CAA championship team will put a strong team on the field next year.

The transfer craziness is bad in many ways, but college rosters are not smaller, so in aggregate the portal is not taking opportunities from high school kids. Fear mongering is a bad look for Farrell.
He tied it to the JUCO ruling which in essence becomes a complete reset of eligibility
for a new inventory of ‘older’ players.
