Hadn’t seen it mentioned yet but Clawson stepped down at Wake today. Will let others summarize but ESPN has a decent article. The game is changing and it’s tough to operate for many schools. Great coach and person - he saved this program.
Oh no.Very telling about the the state of college athletics.

Is his wife ok?

I sure hope so ‘32. My take is that he was frustrated by people calling for his head over downward performance and he hates losing, so decided to step away. But that’s all speculation. I certainly hope his family is all ok.

It’s tough to win at Wake as they pinch Pennies in athletics. The school itself is phenomenal though.

Wake is the UR of the ACC.Wake unable to compete with the NIL heavyweights. It will continue to be a farm system for the deep pocket alternatives.

When Belicheck got the UNC job it clearly sent the message to Dave that semipro football was at his doorstep and nothing could be done to stem the tide. The rules for friendly recruiting are permanently off the table.

Interesting read in the article. I talked with Dave couple weeks ago. Of course he didn’t mention this decision. I did bring up Sam Hartman, and we talked about Sam a bit. I met Dave and Catherine the summer before his first season here, and not only is he a great coach but also a guy with a lot class. Best to Dave and family.

Who benefits in the long run. NFL Taylor made players. Farm system at it’s best🏈🕷️🕸️
College athletics is big business.ESPN and the networks are in charge of feeding the business.Shortly, private equity players will be majority stakeholders in college sports teams and/or conferences. We all will have the option to buy dividend paying shares in ND football or VT football.
Some college teams may seamlessly roll into NFL expansion.Bye bye eligibility requirements.Bye bye graduate transfer constraints.Free agency will accelerate with little constraint.A players contract will be signed by private equity firms not the university.

Forget recruiting from here.Cam Coleman’s school. When you treat someone not so hot, your high school coaches/players are made aware.

Our transfers checked out way before the end of the regular season.
Playing for the
So, one to JMU, one to Wisconsin, and another with a VT offer. Perhaps not Patriot League decision but maybe they are just FBS players.
No no no, it's all about the Patriot League! Don't even try to change the narrative.

Even though it appears our recruiting did not suffer this year, and that we will probably flourish in that league, and even though the PL is the best academic/enrollment/philosophical fit for our football program and we have no evidence yet of what a season in the PL will entail, it was a bad, bad, bad decision.

Agree that all of theses players that left are going to be able to preform at the FBS level. The proof is what they were able to do for us at Richmond. That said, College Football is a BIG Business now and an Education is Secondary. The NFL is loving this🏈🕸️🕷️

Again, when more than half of the schools with football programs (prior to UR addition) don’t have grad programs for all intents and purposes, why would they vote to give an advantage to those schools that do?

Then why did we join?

Probably should clarify bc on balance thought it was justifiable move, but that was based on the belief PL rules would not adversely impact our operating philosophy. Thought that was the deal. Seems like the way it was sold.

I'm sure not all schools have same degree offerings either.

Let’s see how many years it takes for PL to be a multi bid league. No doubt in the next several years unless we win PL we will be done for season.

Also, let’s see how many years before the CAA becomes a one bid league. My guess is for a number of years the CAA will get at least one if not more bids.

I know we offered this Annapolis kid,a mid year 6-4,300 OL transfer from Davidson.

We lost a relative local kid to Holy Cross. This is an ominous sign.

Can’t recall when or if we ever lost a recruiting battle with a PL school.

Wonder if losing 10 returning starters to the portal had anything to do with it.

We may have to find D2 and D3 bodies.
