On to Wofford

I am expecting a Mooney extension of his contract. Somehow pull out a win in Wofford. Such a long ride from the Bahamas. Had a couple of drinks. This one drink believes Mooney for life.

I hope so. I really had planned to drive down the quick 365 miles from RVA to Spartanburg for this game .. but going to be doing the ESPN+ thing this go around. Hopefully Coach reads the Lineup 3.0 thread and gets the turnaround going. (Crazy sports year for me given the Braves were 52-55 on Aug 1 and then 3 months later I was in Houston for Game 6 so impossible for me not to remain just a touch optimistic).
I won good money on the Braves to win the World Series way back when they could not get over .500. Good thing the Braves GM, coach, and players are not like some on this board, who would have given up several times and never smelled the playoffs.

We have only played 7 games. We still have some quality OOC games and our conference might be a lot better than expected, so there are plenty of quality wins available. We will have a top 100 SOS at the end of the year, likely better than most bubble teams, so everything is still right there in front of us.

Nothing would make me happier than you being right. Here’s to hoping.

7 games? It has been almost 2 decades.

So tell me, how much money did you make betting on the Spiders to make the tournament the last 10 years?

What did Bob ask Mooney tonight on his show? I wanted to hear what Tyler had to say, but couldn’t stomach Mooney’s BS excuses.

All seashells and balloons. Mostly what positives they took away from playing in paradise.

It was discussed. Coach said it was offset by our steals and winning the turnover margin.
True. Was being a frustrated smart A, bc it was discussed as you say.

Point is, as it has been for years, steals and TO margins do not offset that kind of shellacking on the boards. CM's system works slightly over 50% of the time. Hard data over multi-year sample is there to support this. Want more of the same, keep him.

After 17 years of the same coach. You see the same result. Cause he refuses to change what he does. Mooney doesn't teach rebounding or being consistent at the foul line. We constantly live and die by the three point shot. Seniors usually do the best under Mooney. Learning the Princeton offense can take a while. Finishing with 19 wins this year. Seems realistic with this group.

Of the 7 games we have only one that has a ranking below 100, NCSt, ODU and Bucknell over 200. So winning out is going to get in the OCC range for an at large?

Seriously. Did he really say that? We lost the effing game, Mooney, so no us getting killed on the boards was not offset by steals and winning turnover margin. He is so far up his own *ss at this point, I had hoped that Hovde and Joseph would instill something different in our system, but Mooney is damn truly believer in his system and results will never sway that belief.

The bottom line is that if our players are content to come here and spend 4,5, or 6 years never making the NCAAs, we are recruiting the wrong kind of playerd.
Beginning to think that. Some of our players never seem all that upset about losing today because their is always tomorrow. I will say the one good thing about taking your kids to our games is you can point easily how not to play the game or any sport by watching Mooney based teams "compete". I demand more of my 10 year old when he plays and frankly he typically delivers more.

Yes. Very much so. Kenpom has NC St at 61, Wofford at 111, No. Iowa at 116, and Toledo at 123. That is 3 Q2s and a Q3. Look at the history when it comes to at large teams. Many of them do not have a lot of Q1 and Q2 wins. We will have a very good OOC SOS number, and if we can finish the OOC strong, we will have some Q1 and Q2 chances in conference as well. Finishing top 2 IC would go a long way toward getting a bid. So, yes, there is a lot of basketball left to be played.

That he give his 110% effort all the time when all the field. Also that he not whine at the officials. Two things that are easy to point out instances during our games when that is happening.
those are admirable traits. not all 10 year olds always give 110%.
guess I was more concerned with the term "demand", and if there are repercusions if he does not give 110%.

Ha, no. That just my mantra before out every game, have fun, play hard, give 110%. You're right, sometimes the 110% is not always there, but that is a learning opportunity. Demand was probably the wrong word.

Personally, I think you are overestimating what is left of our schedule and many on here are underestimating it.

I am worried that the Super Seniors across the nation, mean there are more upsets, and mean that preseason expectations are over-weighted in most analytical rankings. This is not a standard season for anyone.

Things will be clearer once a NET Ranking is published. However we can not wait until then to try to build a resume.

This, I was hoping they could bring a fresh perspective, but Mooney doesn't change, doesn't adapt - unless forced too. That Athletic article, couldn't believe the insinuation that Mooney changed his D b/c of Hardt, not because he is self scouting and looking to continuously improve.

I love the guy at the Sportsbook who runs around showing everyone his winning ticket. Meanwhile there is a stack of loser receipts in the trash.

Your logic is wishful thinking…..and that is the best case scenario.

I agree with a lot of what you say, we're not out of the running YET. I hope you are not looking at P6 at larges and comparing mids to them. With rare exceptions the committee has been giving fewer at-large bids to the mids. we cannot expect an at-large if we don't stand out.

I guess my grasping thread that isn't dead (yet) is: we've tried the "but we've got a couple really good wins so please ignore the couple really bad losses" thing in recent years, to no avail. So this year maybe we are trying the "but we've got no bad losses, so please ignore the no really good wins" this year. It's not unprecedented in being successful, at least.

I look forward to revisiting the death of this post after we lose to Bucknell on getaway day. Or maybe to Northern Iowa sooner than that.
