Cayo dropping a couple of turkeys and Burton doing what you're supposed to do.
Tyler Burton is just incredible. 29 points, 9 rebounds.

For a team as bad as ODU it should not have been a freakin’ nail biter at home but a win is a win I suppose.
Didn’t get to see anything but the last six minutes, but oof. Thank God for Burton. Where the hell would we be without him? The only guy on the roster who comes to play every single night.

I disagree as well. That was a completely gut/grind it out game. Two different types of games. Cayo came through when I counted most.

This was a game we would’ve given away last year. This would’ve been a crushing blow but the good guys prevailed. Wilson continues to surprise me with making a few 3s lately. Sherod needs less minutes when he’s not playing well.
Offensive rebounding - ours vs opponents year to year is predictable and a known. Both manifestations of Mooney’s System. Never going to change. Massive foregone opportunity on offense and major liability on defense. But keep on doing the same.
To clarify, I meant that he produces night in and night out unlike anyone else. Cayo is great one night then MIA for two games. Gilyard scores sometimes, then has a game like tonight, etc. Burton gives us close to 20/8 seemingly every game.
We had an off night shooting, but were still able to pull out win. They were possibly a little tired from Friday night. Cayo have some key baskets at the end of the game. Burton is the best player we have had since Jonny Newman. Dji had a great game and Golden is much better than some of you give him credit for. Looking forward to our next game. Go Spiders!

Tyler Burton is a player. That kid was about all we had tonight. Look no further than the free throw line in tonight’s game, 81.5%. Jones had an excellent game plan to hack our inside players that had been shooting under 50% from the line. Golden and Cayo shocked them by shooting 11-15 from the line. We were out-rebounded by 13. Only Burton made any effort to rebound at all. We got away with playing lazy and turning the ball over against a team that can’t shoot the ball. There is still no fire under this team to start the game and Cayo did absolutely nothing until the last couple minutes. They won, but have to improve. Grace and Bailey played a nice couple minutes also.
We normally lose on off nights for Gilly and Golden (and Nick) … Tyler, Dji, Zha, and Cayo said hell no to losing tonight.
If they are tired from Friday night's game how will we ever play 3 nights in a row in the A10 tournament or two nights in a row in the NCAA tournament. Oh,. . .never mind
Sigh. They won and showed heart tonight and winning two nights in a row would be a downright amazing feat for any ncaa tourney team.
Several times i saw next year's team out there playing. Nelson, Bailey, Burton and Grace will carry the team.
Seriously, a one day turn around is not bad. We would have lost this game last year.
You can nick pick any game, we need these kind of games to make us better.
Hey dad, Dji play great, with the limited amount of floor time he plays with confidence, made several plays that resulted in our victory. I would be proud!
Favorite sequence of the game was when Burton sinks a basket. ODU gets the ball inbounds and then with Burton and the ODU player in the backcourt somehow Burton knocks the ball away and gains possession.
Question - what was the ref literally yelling about in Mooney's direction when the players were lined up for a free throw? Don't recall in recent memory hearing a ref yell that loud.
🙏🏼 We def are proud…he is a patient person by nature unlike me 😬 he’s had great coaches that have prepared him to get him here at college level. He understands that his time will come. We always talk about control what you can control, make it hard for Coach to take you out and just always be active. I thought he gave us a spark in the 1st with 2 FTs, block, charge and couple of rbs and was active in passing lanes. He continued that in the 2nd as well and I thought his length bothered ODU guards.
A win is a win, but it sure was ugly. Nothing new in terms of why, so not even going to mention it.
One thing that was new was Dji getting more minutes and that was of course because of Wilson’s foul trouble in the first half (and because Goose is obviously still not ready). Looking forward to them both being on the floor together. Dji definitely showing he is ready to contribute more.

DJI needs to get some of Wilson and Sherod’s minutes.
Agreed that his time will come and he will shine. He’s going to be the next Burton….
Dji needs needs more time, I can see his confidence increasing. Driving the lane against D-1 competition is not easy, ball handling great,etc. I enjoy watching his skills. So important, appears to be having fun. Good for him!
Golden has been pretty good when we need him this year, but man for a sixth-year guy he still misses a ton of shots right around the basket and makes so many shots in general much harder than they need to be for a guy his size. His last three games before tonight were 3 of 10, 3 of 11 and 8 of 15 from the floor. Just not nearly where a guy with his apparent talent should be.
The problem is I think the same thing about Crabtree and Goose. Lot of talent at the 2/3 position.
My observations:

3. Pursuant to point 2 and I again repeat, someone please put Nate in a film room with free throw footage of him from 2019-20. What is going on there? Whoever “retooled” his FT form should be fired.
4. Comically bad rebounding, 20 ORB for ODU?
