Official Nuclear Meltdown Losing to Davey w/o Gibbs Thread

Expected to lose? You betcha, I have little confidence we can win a road game and not much more about home games. It just appears we try to find some way to piss away a second half lead and unsuccessfully fight to pull it out at the end. Time and time again.

Just awful. No 3-2 in the second half. I generally stay positive, but in tonight's game with McKillop on our bench and Mooney on theirs, we win going away. McKillop adjust his strategy and ran isolation on our bigs on the perimeter during the 12-1 run that won Davidson the game. Meanwhile we made no adjustments that I could see.

I'm with you. I found my boiling point at the Goo Moo game but got burned in the steam room tonight. This is really bad. What the hell.

McKillop onviously coaches his players up in practice and it shows in games. Fundamentally sound in every aspect of the game. Not the most physically gifted, obviously, but he gets every ounce of effort and ability out of his players. We are, and have been all season, very poor at fundamentals. That's on the coach. We have guys with too much ability to be playing like this.

Will also add that Wade did the same thing THE ENIRE SECOND HALF of the RPI game. RPI shot maybe 3 jump shots the second half and Mooney made no adjuatments. The result was RPI ran a layup line and managed to foul Cline out because he guarded Lewis all half, which Cline shouldn't be asked to do time and time again. Sorry fellas, but I'm pissed tonight.

Only silver lining is watching ANO not leave the bench all night in the Pitt game. I've watched a lot of UR games. This loss is right up there with many of the bad ones. Not sure if there's a fix. If you blow it up you may be terrible for a long time as you're paying 2 coaches with no promises the next one is any better. If you stick with it, how do you think it gets much better?

12-1 run - and we don't change the defense, and we don't call a time out.

Well said.

If I had the money I'd blow it up. I am going to consider what my spider club contribution will be this spring. Paying money to be miserable doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I don't see any hope Mooney will produce a tournament team on a every couple of year basis.

It doesn't. When nobody - and I mean nobody - has their job at stake, and there's only a couple thousand people that really, truly care that anything changes ... then...

LOL. A state I can identify. Consider giving your tickets to the boys club.

Turned it off early while we were up by two. Did we really lose? Man ..... OSC

It's not easy finding ways to lose, but we certainly do. Anybody got a line on our free throw percentage tonight? I know at one time tonight we were 4 for 9.

Check Gibbs' stats last two games vs Richmond......NOT A FACTOR. Defense struggles and missed foul shots. Crappy gym and huge unfair home court advantage..they are 12 and 1 at home.....???..

Is this really a thing, though? Won't they just take other, non-designated funds and assign them to hoops to backfill?
You're probably right. Puts a loyal fan in a bad place considering how much I respect what the lacrosse, baseball, football and other sports are accomplishing. But I will do it until something changes with basketball.

You bring in Buckingham, Sherrod, and Golden.
The key question is the same every year: Are the players good enough to make the NCAA tournament in spite of the poor coaching? It has only happened with one group in the Mooney era.

Being eternally optimistic we have once again pinned our hopes on next year's incoming freshman. Reality, and probability are likely to leave us frustrated once again. My hope is that these freshman are exceptional enough to overcome the obstacle(s) and rise above the mediocrity. It is a lot to ask.
