Non-game thoughts

We’re a Nike school?

Nike Dri-Fits are about equal anyway. Maybe a little bit better. That being said, no way do they give those out at the games to season ticket holders.

U of Evansville. Small private school. Only 2400 students.
IT CAN BE DONE
There was a time when Evansville had a terrific basketball program and I remember reading an article in
Sports Illustrated about them. But, they had a tragedy where the entire team was killed in an airplane crash.
They have never really recovered

What is even more crazy about that crash was that only one player on the team was not on the flight due to being injured and not traveling with the team. But he died just weeks later in a car accident.

Terrible, terrible tragedy. But, at least as a basketball program, they have recovered. They have been to the dance 5 times since, twice in the 80s and 3 times in the 90s, with 6 regular season titles and 3 tourney titles.

They looked good last night. Classic example of upperclassmen team in Evansville taking on more talented underclassmen team in Kentucky. All Evansville had to do was keep the game close and you could see Kentucky getting nervous and tight. Granted - I think Kentucky beats them 9 out of 10 times if they play, but last night was that 1 time.

Plenty of Bojo cards now!

Game buildup improved after first game. Wish we had the drummer every game. Regardless, better than it was. Traffic pattern has improved.

But mainly the fact that I walk out with 25 Bojos.

I've been to the Vandy and McNeese games. No Bojangles on the way out either time, though there should have been. I don't care either way because I don't eat fast food chicken.

I would have timed the baby shark song to when we switched to pressure defense spearheaded by two gambling under 6 foot guards...

Baby Shark? Another old and tired effort to be relevant based off of another teams success. First it was swiping the Go Pack Go song, now this? Can't the people doing the entertainment side of things think for themselves?

People just follow the latest viral music trend. Why can’t you “Let it go”?
Baby Shark is not a viral music trend. It was a lot of fun, but it was specific to one player, one team, and one fanbase.

If you saw any other team do it you'd roll your eyes. Now that Parra's going to Japan, you won't even see them do it next year.

As someone who doesn’t follow the nationals, I have no idea what you’re talking about in terms of baby shark and the Nats.

However, baby shark has 3.9 billion views on YouTube, is definitely a viral music trend (see: 3.9 BILLION views), and anyone who has kids under 10 or knows people with kids under 10 knows Baby Shark by heart.

With its undeniable popularity, I’m quite sure it has been used by more sports teams across the world than just the Nationals.

Lol. Good call. My grand daughter's travel softball team, the East Coast Sand Sharks, adopted it as their theme song. It's still ringing in my ears.

Baby Shark is a badly flawed song. If the sharks are hunting, why would they then run away? They are the hunters, not the hunted. Furthermore, they cannot "run" away, as they a) have no legs and b) live in water. We should stop using this abomination of a song at once.

OK. "Itsy Bitsy Spider" has over 200 Billion "sings." Why not use that?
Perhaps it's a coincidence they started playing it after the Nationals' WS run. Possibly. Maybe a 1 in 3.9 BILLION chance.
As wr70beh said, they're most likely glomming on to another team's shtick. Just like "Go Pack Go" and "Sweet Caroline."
Next up...."Hail to the Spiders"

we're trying to entertain and have fun.
some fans bring young kids to our games.
young kids love Baby Shark.
seems like a no-brainer to me.

First, I just thought it would be funny if it played when our two smallest guys got consecutive steals.
Unless there is a piranha song?:D
Yes, I have a strange sense of humor, I thought that would be noticeable on here by now.

Second, your original comment sounded like “no small child had heard baby shark until the Nats played it” and that didn’t seem accurate...

Cool. No big deal. My original post was poorly worded; it's most definitely a viral music thing. That's not why they did it, though. I agree with wr70beh that they were just glomming onto the Nationals.

I enjoyed the heck out of baby shark this year and even got to do it at a World Series game. My kids roll their eyes.

Maybe the players are doing the two-finger (baby) shark when they make a FT, two-hand (mommy) shark when they make a FG, and two-arm (daddy) shark when they hit a 3. (Nats fans will get that)

I'm not a Sox fan but I sit near a couple who get annoyed that we play Sweet Caroline at football games. The "Go Pack Go" thing is pretty bad (it would have been ironic if we hosted Wisc-Green Bay as one of our Legends Classic games). Hey, if the fans (especially students) are having fun with it, just go with it. We've got a unique mascot and exciting team - I'd think we could come up with our own "thing" with just a little effort. But whatever. The song I'd like to hear us coopt is "We are the Champions" at the end of the A10 season.

Swiper, no swiping.

of course I wouldn't mind it either, but "We are the Champions" would be the least original thing ever.

In general, I agree that all those songs are terribly worn out and overdone. It's like going to a wedding and hearing all the same annoying usual suspect songs. That's why the next time I get married, I'm going to come up with a ton of under-the-radar stuff.

I did attend a wedding where the bride came down the aisle to REM - End of the world as we know it.
Now that seemed original...
