No more Brooklyn Nets practice facility?Kenny out

I'm sure we did have plans to use that facility next week in Brooklyn so yeah we could be scrambling.

Coach killer Kyrie. Too bad KA is a very good coach and will land on his feet, maybe even someday here never know.

If we don’t make the NCAAs this year, I’d be happy with KA for next year

I don’t see a coach with a 24-7 record being asked to leave.

I know. But doesn’t make me like it any more that we can potentially go 9 years between NCAA appearances, and with our proclaimed best class ever as juniors, and have zero consequences. Particularly since it feels that we dedicate the majority of our athletic department resources to this program.

A great time to have this discussion will be after our last game of the season, since we don't know yet whether that will be in the NIT or NCAA.

I think regardless of making the tourney or not, Hardt should be on the phone asking if Kenny would have any interest in coming back to Richmond. In my opinion, he’s a much better coach than Mooney (and most coaches for that matter). If you have a chance, regardless of how small (as I think he ends up somewhere in the NBA), you at least do your due diligence.

I thought Mooney was hiring two new assistants, John Beilein & Kenny Atkinson...

Not a huge surprise, but wish the best for Kenny Atkinson, one of my favorite all time Spider players...............

So, instead of looking at our season and judging that, you are going to make this decision on what a 10-member committee thinks?

I know that many disagree with my thoughts, but my feelings are that we play to make the NCAA tourney with the resources we’ve dedicated. So yes, the opinion of those 10 members is what matters to me more than the opinions of Real Fans about whether our team had a good season.

Kyrie Irving is an absolute moron. That's all.

Remember earlier in the year when he commented on his teammates, and said we need players like so-and-so, and only named a few. What did the other players on the team think of that? What a joke he is.

Honestly I wondered when they signed Irving whether Atkinson wanted it. I'm sure he wanted Durant but no one wants Irving. He's a flat-earther, too. What a fool.

Completely agree, that was one of the most tone deaf, team breaking comments ever. Kyrie, guess what they win at a much higher rate when you don't play.

Seriously, mooney isnt going anywhere after this season regardless...he has 1 yr left, will have 5 starting srs next yr (assuming no one leaves)...makes the ncaa next yr and gets extended.......hopefully with provisions expecting better lost season results than what weve seen from 2011-2019.

I would be shocked if Mooney does not receive an extension this offseason. And I wouldn't be surprised if it were of the 4 or 5 year variety.

Uh, disagree. Extension, fine. His total extension length should be he's at four years out, so that's a 2-3 year extension (I think he had 2 left including this year?). There is no scenario under which we should feel compelled to have him extended out beyond that, unless anyone here is going to guarantee that he will continue to produce at this level. I don't think he'll have the leverage some seem to think he will, and even if he does, we need to look at not just the future but the past to understand what we are expecting.

I would be shocked too. He has the 36th ranked team in the country now and will almost certainly be in the top 25 next year. It would be tough for a mid-major AD to fire him or not extend him now.

I'm just of the mind that Hardt is not going to send him into a lame duck slash play-for-an-extension-or-get-gone year. That would mean he will be signed to an extension. And if I'm guessing, it will be a 4 year extension. I would prefer 3, but I've come to the feeling that Mooney's hot seat the last couple years was not as hot as I had thought it was.

Current contract has two years beyond this one. It's already been extended one year.

If we dance this year and next, he will have gone from hot seat to just hot. Someone will try to hire him away after 2021.

We need to not panic about our coaches leaving. This is a UR-wide philosophical thing.

Ah - I thought his contract only ran through next year. That definitely makes it less likely that an extension happens.

An extension is to be expected. As S-Man has said elsewhere we can’t really have him in a deeply lame duck position. But I don’t think we offer a five year extension which is what I’m interpreting you to suggest. We could extend him 2 years to a total of four. That is probably reasonable.
Beyond that, I’m with Broc, you probably should expect you’ll get poached which means we’re having success.
